of course, in the UK is pointless to have that app
Oh I don't know. Judging from what I see in the street some days, some of us have a shaky grasp of the mother tongue, and could probably do with the help!
With Mario returning to 2D, and with huge success, I'm not surprised to see Sonic following. I just hope it's as good as New Super Mario Bros Wii, or, indeed, the older Sonic 2D titles.
I don't know if I'd give it 10/10, but I do prefer it to Galaxy (which I do like a lot), and it does deserve better scores than it's been getting. Just because it's not in 3D and HD, and is not online, you'd think it's the worst game ever from some of the reviews. Of course, those things are just knobs and polish, and it's one of the most depressing fallacies in modern video game thought that they're anything but.
Thankfully, Sega skipped the Master System port I think you'll find that the MS port is one of the best of the home versions, although quite different from the arcade incarnation. It's the NES port which stinks more than a truck full of horse poop. The anti-MS bias here is starting to get really old...
Not a lot of love for Pro Evo in the comments; did people not enjoy the Wii version? I thought it was ace, and this is coming from someone who's very critical of any footie game that isn't Sensible Soccer!
There's also a zombie walk that day in Brighton. Nothing to do with Resident Evil, and no free games involved, just a bit of annual undead fun! Beach of the Dead is the name, if you fancy looking it up.
GAME and Gamestation are now the same company, so I'd guess this is a GAME exclusive, and it's unlikely to hit other UK sellers. I wouldn't be surprised to see it turn up at Gamestop in the US though.
Turbo Genesis, I would argue that this is one of the best of the 8-bit rpgs, certainly on consoles. If we include computer rpgs, that's a different matter!
JamieO, did you have a PC Engine then? I knew of them from magazines at the time, but never saw one in the flesh until a couple of years ago; as I recall, it was never officially released in the UK. It certainly seemed to me that the 8-bit console generation here in Britain was led by the Master System, but I could be misremembering; it was twenty years ago now!
This is a much better treatment than in the news story a few days ago. This is more even-handed, acknowledging the MS port's best features while still noting its weaknesses, rather than the sweeping condemnation we got the other day.
Yeah, a bit unfair on the MS version of R-Type I think. It's actually generally considered one of the best ports, rather than "an inferior version", and has a number of unique features. Bad form, nintendolife, bad form!
Count me as one of the ones who actually liked how they used Wiimote control in the first game, so I'm disappointed that we're not seeing an expanded version of that in the sequel.
It's the new Legend of Zelda instalment, you wait and see. That doesn't necessarily mean it'll be the last Zelda, of course; we've had more than twelve "Final" Fantasies, after all...
It was a close thing, but in the end, I decided that the early grinding was a put-off, so I dropped it to 8/10. If it makes you feel any better, it's a high 8!
I was never interested in the X360, and the failures made the decision final, so yeah, not going there.
The only problem I've ever had with the Wii is that it sometimes goes into a black screen when I load the first Wii Sports, and stays there for a long time before the game starts. But I don't need to play it any more, now I have Wii Sports Resort.
I've never had a console failure, now I think about it. The power light didn't work on my Master System, but the machine itself was fine. My PS1 never had an issue, and my PS2 is getting on for nine years old and is just fine, which is crazy. My SNES was bought second-hand, and was covered in muck, and it worked perfectly. My wife has an original NES, and you have to occasionally do the blowy thing to get it to work, but it does work.
A good series of games, but I'm hoping that this means that stuff like Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle might be on their way, perhaps through WiiWare or a VC version of SCUMM. High hopes, I know...
It may be that this will be Modern Warfare 2, but because the first one didn't come out on Wii, they're just releasing it as MW. I would find it odd if they really were releasing the original alongside the others.
Sales are down everywhere right now because of a small thing called the recession. Also, sales were so strong for the Wii at the start that it's bound to tail off at this point in the cycle, and even moderate sales are going to look "poor" in relation to such a strong opening. And if it's doing as well as the PS2 was at this stage in its life, that's not too bad, as the PS2 is still a viable platform, unbelievable as that may be, ten years on.
Looks a bit like the classic Amiga game Skidmarks, which of course in turn drew from Super Sprint and Super Off Road. Good to see a classic game style make a return, and with a not bad score either.
The Wii has a pretty poor track record when it comes to streaming media outside of Japan. No video rental services for us, no downloads, just the Nintendo Channel and its somewhat hokey delivery of promo videos. Well, that and the Wii-specific version of the BBC iPlayer...
Yes, the Wii has, in theory, a very good control scheme for the point-and-click genre (just as it has for FPS, but that's another conversation), so I agree that it's a crying shame that there aren't more games of this sort on the platform. I for one would immediately buy some sort of Monkey Island compilation disc, or the originals on Virtual Console (if the Amiga were supported, naturally).
The choppiness of the conversion is certainly bad news, but on the other hand, it might make Nintendo take another look at their WiiWare storage limits. I say "might", although I'm not confident!

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd & 24th February 2010 (Japan)
For a moment, I thought that Fantastic Cube image was a screenshot from some version of Elite, which really would be a "surprise VCA release".
Re: Super Mario Bros. 3 Turns Twenty
I did not feel old until just now. Twenty years already, cripes.
Re: Nintendo Download: 5th February 2010 (Europe)

Re: Iwata Asks About Zelda Handheld History
That's a fascinating tidbit about Twin Peaks. Regarding Ganon's porcine nature; I thought that was obvious!
Re: Project Needlemouse to Focus Solely on Sonic?
With Mario returning to 2D, and with huge success, I'm not surprised to see Sonic following. I just hope it's as good as New Super Mario Bros Wii, or, indeed, the older Sonic 2D titles.
Re: Review: Avatar: The Game (Wii)
Oh look, an average-at-best movie licence! What a surprise!
Re: Stunt Cars
You forget; eerything has to be online and HD, otherwise it's no good! Sadly, that seems to be the way of modern video game criticism.
(Or maybe he has no local players, which would be fair enough.)
Re: Nyko Bringing Wii MotionPlus to Wand+
Right, so if Nyko can do it, why can't Nintendo?
Re: Nintendo Download: 25 December 2009 (EU)
Is that it? No Cave Story? No Super Mario Kart? Sad.
Re: Review: Alex Kidd in Shinobi World (Virtual Console / Master System)
@Ristar42 thanks! I'm still hoping to see the Creatures games on Virtual Console one of these days.
Re: Stunt Cars
I was hoping it would be an update of Stunt Car Racer

Re: Pixmania: Wiimote Tech Is "Endangered"
Well, I've never heard of Pixmania, so I'm not sure what that says about the authority of their prediction.
Re: Nintendo Download: Zombies, LIT, Ghost Mansion Party, Little Red Riding Hood and Card Classics (EU)
No Cave Story? Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Re: The Stars Catalogue Gets More New Things
I think the European loyalty programme is NoE's way of saying sorry for screwing us over on all the games.

Re: Review: Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (Virtual Console / Master System)
See, now I actually prefer the brighter, bolder colours in this version.
Re: Review: Phantasy Star (Virtual Console / Master System)
Turbo Genesis, I would argue that this is one of the best of the 8-bit rpgs, certainly on consoles. If we include computer rpgs, that's a different matter!
Re: Review: Final Fantasy (Virtual Console / NES)
I think this should be higher than Phantasy Star though.
Now that's fighting talk!

Re: New DSi and Wii Remote Colors Announced
If they can put the Motion Plus in the same box as the Wiimote, why can't they just put them in the same unit?
Re: Oscar in Toyland
I played his a lot on the old Amiga (as Trolls), and it wasn't too bad. Quite fun in its own way, and incredibly colourful and vivid for its day.
Re: Review: Phantasy Star (Virtual Console / Master System)

Re: Ashes Cricket 2009 Still On The Cards For an NTSC Release?
I'm surprised that there's so much international interest, but pleasantly so.
Re: Wii "Most Reliable Console of This Generation"
mjc0961, it's called a sample size, and every survey uses one. 5000 is a pretty good sampling, in comparison to most surveys.

Re: Review: Phantasy Star (Virtual Console / Master System)
I agree it's dated, which is why I reduced the score from 9 to 8. Once you're over that initial grinding hump, it's a great game.
Re: Phantasy Star
No FM chip emulation as far as I can see, and it seems to be the original translation, too.
Re: Nintendo Download: Phantasy Star, Flipnote Studio, Sujin Taisen, Rattle Battle and Slot Car Racing (EU)
Wow, I'm surprised that so many are overlooking Phantasy Star! It's a great game!
Re: What LucasArts games do you want to see on Virtual Console?
Maniac Mansion, Zombies, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and, of course, Monkey Island!

"Stupidly"? They seem to have done quite well out of it.

Talk of a "crash" is just sensationalism.
Re: Miyamoto: Have Confidence in Us
You wouldn't come up with something weird like this as a console peripheral unless you had some good ideas on how to use it. I trust them.
Re: Review: Driift Mania (WiiWare)
@WiisWorld, yes, the name was quite deliberate, I'm sure.

Ha! I'd forgotten about baseball. Shows how long it's been since I fired up the first Wii Sports!
