The biggest differences seems to be tone and minor gameplay elements. VC is more serious in its story telling the horrors of war along with the use of tanks in each mission. Also, VC let's you fire your weapon without taking away movement points so mobility is another difference

His jokes aren't funny. They used to bring a smile to my face, but the intro part where he delivers a ton of pokepuns just hurt bad.

I'd say to conduct an investigation just to check the veracity of the accusers. Not saying they're all lying, but that overtime, details tend to become exaggerated.
