Re: Review: SEGA AGES Gain Ground (Switch) - A Commendable Failure, But A Failure Nonetheless

GhaleonUnlimited

I just got into Gain Ground 2 years after seeing a real machine at Galloping Ghosts , along with the other System 24 games.

I rarely am motivated to learn new games anymore, but I got so into Gain Ground because you simply HAVE to be to beat it .

The switch version is great with saves and rewind , because it's the kind of game where you just have to try things and experiment. SEGA always made the best arcade games that were unique , sound and look great, and are fun to try to master over and over.

Anyone who likes GG, if you don't have access to the Playstation 2 remake, at least listen to the sound track on YouTube , because it's arranged and even has an alternative soundtrack that's also fantastic .

This game is for anyone who is into retro, and puzzles, and wants something genuinely unique. Since every indie dev is remaking FF, Zelda or Super Metroid , wholly original games are pretty hard to find . Fortunately SEGA made a ton !

Buy it when the SEGA AGES games are all on sale for like $2.30

ProTip: To make the game easier (and I never see this mentioned literally anywhere regarding the arcade or Playstation 2 versions), know that the speed of the enemies and their shots increases every level you beat . (You might think it's affected by how big your party is , but it isn't.)

It resets when you (or any player ) continues . And the timer resets when you do this as well! So if you're carefully collected party is in danger cos of time, buzz in with P2 or P3.

So in world 4 you can't continue (tho in the switch port maybe you can), so die in 3-10 and have a player continue . And add P2 and P3 if you haven't yet. Helps to reset the difficulty and have those extra chars for world 4.

And just buzz in with P2 or P3 and have their 3 chars die now and then , and the difficulty resets ,as well.

Re: Video: The Best RPG Ever Made Still Isn't On Switch

GhaleonUnlimited

Everyone can have their opinions, but at least personally I'm so effing tired of CT being annointed "the best RPG ever". By now it's just a comical narrative.

I played it last year finally and it's a great game. I personally wasn't enamored with it. Actually seemed rushed in a few places and the story and characters are not revolutionary. (if you disagree, that's cool!)

It's a GREAT, well-put together game! But there are SO MANY other RPGs of the era equally worth talking about.

There are A TON of great classic games that have their strengths and weaknesses. CT does too.

I played Terranigma 2 years ago and WAS blown away. IMO the best RPG ever.

I play new old games all the time and I'm sure you all do too. It's fine if most people think I'm crazy or something because I don't want to ***** myself over CT.

But Jesus, there doesn't even have to be "the best RPG for everyone" anyway because that's impossible. It's like arguing whether Star Wars is better than Citizen Kane.

Re: Feature: 8 NES Games That Were Better On Famicom Disk System

GhaleonUnlimited

Did you guys play these for this write-up ? Simon's Quests load times make it impossible to make a case for it over the NES version , even if for some reason you liked the OST better (which I doubt most people would ).

I'd suggest simply writing about the romhacking.net fan enhancements people have made to the NES versions that incorporate FDS features

It's fine if people are into it, but I can't see wanting to play 64 games on anything except a CRT under 27", or on the 3DS.

You could render the game at 16k but it's still the same poly models ;/ Games like this and MGS lose a lot of their visual impact upscaled and played on large screens .

But if it makes you happy then great !
