Re: Review: Onslaught (WiiWare)

Falk_Sturmfels

@jordanr: I used Level2-Machinegun with 200 ammo. Stay in distance and aim just for the head. Let you teammates attack front. I made 8 or 9 "Excellent" in a row, and that thing died pretty quick.

Re: Review: Onslaught (WiiWare)

Falk_Sturmfels

Finally i kicked the ass of that Mantis in Mission 8 and went to the next levels. Right know i have 2 upgrades for the weapons. I tried Mission 12 and had to lough. Great design in this mission. I was close to the last entry as they killed me. Fantastic bug-shooter.

Re: Review: Onslaught (WiiWare)

Falk_Sturmfels

@CaPPaEpidemic: Well, the MPIII controls were great. I would say Onslought has very good FPS-controls, but not the best ones on Wii. Theres one big negative thing on the controls, and thats the quick sprint. You have to tap twice the nunchuk-stick, and thats pretty weird.
But still this is a damn good shooter. Movement is as quick as in Advanced-Mode of MPIII, but you can change that to slower moves like in Red Steel. Your choice!!
Again I tried this morning that bastard in Mission 8, and this huge creature nailed me twice. Next time I´m doing it.

Re: Review: Onslaught (WiiWare)

Falk_Sturmfels

Damn, yesterday night I tried to pass Mission 8. You have to beat it to open the next missions. It can´t eliminate the last enemy in that level. Damn. I´m playing it at Normal. Still great an funny game. The bugs getting bigger stronger now. There´s a new type, something like a tank with a cannon, and when they shoot you see nice blue lighteffects and a weird lasersound. Cool. These tanks look exactly like the ones from "Body Harvest" from N64. Anybody remembers that game? I always had a tendency to games with hordes of bugs. I like these panicshooters.

Re: Review: Onslaught (WiiWare)

Falk_Sturmfels

Gentlemen, this Onslought-Thread was getting quickly one of the very longest I see on this page. I hope many american guys will buy this game (and of course many others from different countries). We players have to show with our download, that there is a market for non-puzzlers on WiiWare. Damn, I´m getting so tired of all these freaky stone-collecting, blocks-moving or button-turning game with one simple screen message: Congratulations! You beat Level 1456 in 38 seconds. Lets go for the next one!
Thank you, Hudson, for this funny bug-massacre! The best download on WiiWare since MM9, World of Goo and Tetris.

Re: Review: Onslaught (WiiWare)

Falk_Sturmfels

I downloaded the game two hours after it was released. Its a great 1000points massacre, with millions of enemies. Some levels are like the Fort in the movie "Starship Troopers", where they had to defend it against an army of bugs. Onslought sometimes has the same panic moments. Sure, there are some little things which could make this game better, but still, like I said, its a great and lovely highscore massacre.
I´m really happy that other people enjoy this like me - I´m also in the rank lists with my nickname. Now you guys have to buy it - then we gonna see more of this!
I DON´T WONNA HAVE ANY MORE PUZZLERS! Get Onslought! Make this a success.

Re: EU WiiWare Update: Onslaught and Pop-Up Pirate!

Falk_Sturmfels

@smugde: Agree. I just wrote the same a couple minutes before in another forum. This is Space Invaders as a FPS. The first level with the Tank remembered me a lot on Space Invaders. I hope, the reviewers will see that. Would be bad, if somebody trashes this game just because of the design. I´m tired of all these freaky puzzlers.

Re: EU WiiWare Update: Onslaught and Pop-Up Pirate!

Falk_Sturmfels

I agree mostly with KDR 11k and Raptor78. I downloaded it because I´m tired of the million puzzle games we get week by week. Heres a developer who is trying to give us a solid Coregame - and its a success. I was surprised by the framerate. Sure, the textures are not that great, but the game runs absolutely smooth. I played the first three missions right now, but cleared just the first one on normal mode. The 6-minutes-defend-the-base in Mission 2 to hard the first time, but I have to say that I just took a quick look into it.
I was seventh in the european list on Mission 1- lets see how long.
Yes, every level looks like "beat each and everything", but classical scoreshooters do the same, or not? And thats what this is: a shooter like Gradius or R-Type, transformed into 3D and some Bug-scenario, which remembers me a lot on games like "Armorines" for N64.
Its the complete package, which raises this game for me to a strong 8:
Online - Worldwide, Regional and Friends with Rank Lists for each Mission in each of the six (or was it five, sorry, I forgot) difficulty levels(three of them are available when you start - easy, normal and hard, then there is very hard and ultra to unlock).
Ultra ... lets see what mess this will be.
Additional you can play with four guys in a coopgame plus do a fight for the highscore (well, yes, here we miss the deathmatch, but still it is okay).
The maingame comes with 13 missions (but I guess there will be two more), 6 weapons, three different types of commands you can give NPC´s, a very clear soundtrack, some messages from teammembers out of the remotespeaker - and tons of enemies. The third mission was to clear out a cave - I saw some light-effects there with green-glowing mushrooms on the walls.
The controls are somewhere between Red Steel and Prime III - which means there are well playable, but not great. There is no little box in the middle of the screen to move the view - you turn by reaching either the left or right side of the screen. But it is way better than in Red Steel. You can choose how quick the curser moves.
The bad: well, for 1000 points there´s not that much to argue about. There are no "Movies", which tell us the story. Only stupid dialoges and frozen screens with Helmghast-warriors which all looks the same. Just the eyes glow different. And the weapon sound could be more impressive. And of course the lack of deathmatches.

My final word: This is not a storytelling shooter. This is not a texture highlight. This is not the intelligent puzzle game of the week (praise the lord).
This is a highscore trip into waves of enemies. Nice controls, good framerate, action every second. I REALLY like it. I give it a strong 8.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (4th Feb)

Falk_Sturmfels

I still don´t know if i should download Tetris. Most times i´m playing alone. How big is the singleplayerpart on tetris?
And I would like to see official numbers - how much do they sell? I see Wild West Guns still in Top 20. I downloaded the game the day it was online, and cursed myself one day later.
Whats about World of Goo? Was it good for the developers? Enough to think about more WiiWare games?
On vgchartz they have sometimes numbers, but who knows if they are right or wrong.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Snowboard Riot & Lonpos

Falk_Sturmfels

@KS8: As a german I have to wait for this game, but tell me (or somebody else): The time attack mode. How is this online? Is there a rank list? How big is the rank list? 10, 100, or what? Any clues, how long your record is saved? For me, thats one of the most funniest parts on Mario Kart Wii. Working again and again with the track, getting faster each turn.
Thanks for comments.

Re: EU WiiWare Update: World Of Goo And Lots More!

Falk_Sturmfels

I downloaded yesterday WoG. Fantastic game. Outstanding Music. Simple, genius gameplay. And a funny extralevel (Corporation), which makes you trying the levels again and again to get these little flags on the map. I´m in the middle of chapter 2 now. Can´t wait to see the rest.

Re: Mega Man 2

Falk_Sturmfels

@slangman: I agree with that. I´m thinking of loading part 3 because of the outstanding gameplay. This part 2 entertained me a lot for just 500 points.

Re: Mega Man 2

Falk_Sturmfels

Yesterday I made it through the Normal-Mode. My Wii-System told me, that I played it for five hours. Good game, but little easy on last level. Dr. Wily´s last appearance is quite ... uninspired.
Anyway, how hard is the Difficult-Mode in relation to Normal-Mode? Any clues?

Re: Mega Man 2

Falk_Sturmfels

I downloaded it two days ago. 500 points is not that much for a high rated game. I´m interested in brandnew part 9, but first I wanted to check if I like the gameplay - never played the series.
Well, I was surprised how well playable this granny is. Til know I defeated four of the eight robots in a couple short sessions. It´s a really good game with a good composed soundtrack.

Re: Review: Mega Man 9 (WiiWare)

Falk_Sturmfels

Yeah, first man here - just stupid, as a german I can´t get it yet.

It sounds good, that the game is heavily to beat - I made all 12 Levels from Wild West Guns within 3 hours. This one will be a harder test, I guess. And good to see, that Capcom did their best.

Oh, the other guy was quicker ... nevermind, great game.

Re: Get Your Groove On With Groovin' Blocks

Falk_Sturmfels

As much as I can see the player moves the blocks similar to the beat. You can see that from .27 He´s waiting for the right moment to smack them down.
For me it is very interesting. I love these old breakdance-funk-tracks (somebody remembers The Rocksteady Crew or the Jonzun Crew?), and because I don´t have much puzzlers for my systems I´m interested.
Lets wait for the review.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (27th August)

Falk_Sturmfels

I repeat my post from the thread before: As long as we don´t see any numbers of how much these games are really sold, it´s not that interesting. For example, vgchartz brought the news, that SUPER MARIO RPG sold on the first day in the European Area 8000 times. Thats something I can think of.
I would like to know, how WILD WEST GUNS sold. Was it good? Does the company thinkin´ of another Zapper-Support? Whats about Lost WInds? Nice Game. Did they make enough profit to keep supporting the Wiiware?
I had my own Gamesshop back in the 90s. I made a Chart list, which rank the games had in my shop. Many people asked for the exact numbers. I´d like to know. Same with Wiiware and VC.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (20th August)

Falk_Sturmfels

It is nice to see some charts - but where the hell do we get any NUMBERS, how often these games are downloaded?
For myself, from the wiiwaregames i just took WILD WEST GUNS - a nice quickie with some points which could be better next time. Great that the zapper is used more and more.

Re: Pitstop II

Falk_Sturmfels

The scrolling is pretty good. But i don´t have to download it - i got it on my original C64.
Are there any plans for you americans to get the C64 as additional hardware for the VC? How popular was it in the states back in the late 80s?

Re: Review: Wild West Guns (WiiWare)

Falk_Sturmfels

I bought it and i like it. Its not a megahit, but its fun for about 7 hours, i guess. what i don´t like is that there is just one save slot. my wife likes these type of games too, and on links crossbow you had several slots. heres just one, so she has to wait until i beated it completely and erased my safe game. then she can go for it. i´m asking myself why nobody realized that?
but still its a little zapperfun game. great music. and guys: the game announces "headshot! 1000 $!"
in germany this is normally a reason to bane games.

Re: Nebulus

Falk_Sturmfels

Unacceptable rating. Three stars? Which type of bullsh... is that? Nebulus is a great puzzle game with spectacular 3d-graphics. No question about. Get it!

Re: Last Ninja 2: Back with a Vengeance

Falk_Sturmfels

I downloaded the first part. Its much more better playing these great classics with the cube controller. This second Ninja I don`t have to buy, because I own it for my original C64. If part three shows up, I will be Mr. Download again.

Re: Paradroid

Falk_Sturmfels

Great game. I had it as an original box on my C64, but I ... sold it a couple years ago. Yes, I did. Blame me for that.
I will buy this one for the VC. This is a really good balanced game. The sound when you clear one of the ships level is cool. The screen turns grey and you hear: summmmmm.

Re: Nebulus

Falk_Sturmfels

I have the original C64-Box, but the game doesn`t load anymore. If this appears on VC, i will download it as fast if i can.

Re: The Last Ninja

Falk_Sturmfels

I downloaded it yesterday, played it a while with the remote. It´s not working well with the remote, so I tried my Cubecontroller. Don´t know why sometimes at the download page is written, that the games are not compatible with the cube controller. Last Ninja is great with the cubecontroller, because all commands are on the buttons, even weapon changing an activating, which is terrible with the remote. Wonderful. Moving with the stick is easier, so there is no way to argue anymore about hard handling Last Ninja.Only jumping is still pure terror, but after you found the best way its okay.
Time for me to take pen and paper and getting back to levelmaps!
