Re: Miyamoto: Consumers Should Have Access To Their Games "For A Long Time"

Dunric

This is the one single reason I like the Wii. The original Wii Virtual Console I am nearly afraid to transfer to my Wii U as I have over $800 invested all in virtual console games and WiiWare. The older systems are emulated perfectly on the Wii and I've never had a single problem with the system. As for pulled games from the VC, what titles were these? I've never seen any mention of such action at least on the NTSC/US systems and accounts. I've sorted all my games by system and such just like a physical collection (and backed them all up on a separate SD card)

If I ever lost access to these classics or had something gone wrong, a part of me would feel lost forever as many of these old classics I had my days in junior high with. I can say with a badge of honor that I completed Ghosts & Goblins on the NES along with many other games. My only recent loss was Metroid Prime Trilogy and sadly without donating a kidney or otherwise I have no chance of ever revisiting such a wonderful collection.

The beauty part is that by the option with these older games, I can play another's copy without entering a activation code etc. That's the beauty of classic games. Be they digital such as my loved collection on my old GameCube compatible Wii and even the physical games for the system. I know I will always return to them despite the SD visuals. I played Metroid Prime 3 (100%) and sometimes just revisit the old areas as they were a true work of art despite the age.

Well done Nintendo, just don't let me down in the future.

Re: Iwata: More Unannounced Third Party Titles Will Come

Dunric

I really do hope EA comes back with quality titles along with Square/ENIX. While there are EA haters, nobody can deny the the largest publisher has the games we need.

Far better support from Ubisoft. I don't want no stinking dancing game!
So much more to wish for but it's 0430 here. I want sleep!

Re: Miiverse Update Adds Facebook and Twitter Sharing

Dunric

This actually is a great move as both the PS3 and Xbox have updates to Facebook upon a trophy or a unlocked achievement. Perhaps Nintendo is loosening the ropes a bit by sharing your online domination with screenshots etc.

It has been discussed before that Nintendo just dump Miiverse in place for a Facebook client as Sony has for the PS3 and a full app for Facebook on the Vita in addition to PSN messaging. Not sure about the 360 as I don't own one.

Perhaps this may lead to a in-game trophy feature for the Wii U like the other systems, what it would be called? I don't know...

Re: Don't Expect Retro Games to Play in New Animal Crossing Releases

Dunric

Why not use the bell currency system for a in game purchase of select games. I know the idea sounds neat but on the other hand, be exploited if it were.

That being said, I had hours of joy playing the original Legend Of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. from the GameCube version years ago. Even having a message board for Wild World and sell turnips at a huge profit in the game and visit another to buy on the cheap.

There's always someone though who will take advantage of your generosity and as a return favor, chop every single tree down and anything else (calling it a joke) while you left your console running for those who just wanted to help each other make some cash.

That was the last time I left my old DS running.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Update Arriving with Luigi's DLC

Dunric

As I said before. Games designed around the game pad that make full use of it are expected as well but the battery life is a real letdown. I do like many of the apps that make use of the game pad but if the game can have a logical way of being played on the pro controller, having that decision is nice or a combo of the two.

An example of such would be a driving game where your primary display is the TV and the option to use the game pad as a rear view mirror or instrument cluster or other info that is useful without cluttering up your view.

The options of both can be quite interesting if so inclined.

Re: SEGA Reveals Its E3 Lineup

Dunric

@Caryslan I'm in the US actually. Out Run HD was exclusive to the UK on the PSN network. In the US. It was on the XBLA.

Sorry if you misunderstood me. I'm located in hot lava temp California.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Update Arriving with Luigi's DLC

Dunric

@daveh30 that I can understand in a realistic form where games designed for the game pad are stuck using it as the developer intended. Other games though that make minimal use of the game pad features should be able to be played by the pro controller.

Games like Lego City with a patch could do much the same as what's displayed on the game pad screen could easily pop up in a window or corner of the screen for much the same features.

A better example would be Nano Assault Neo. A perfect example of a twin stick shooter begging for pro controller support. All the game pad display does is mirror the image on your TV.

Even Netflix of all things when watching on your TV, the display on the game pad never shuts off even through the course of hours of viewing. Making for wasted battery life sitting idle.

I'm sure there's other games that do this and while I don't hate using the. Game pad, it does get a lot of push at the behest of Nintendo, there should be an option for a choice considering the cost (and comfort).

Re: SEGA Reveals Its E3 Lineup

Dunric

@DarkLloyd It was a early exclusive for the Genesis/Mega Drive produced by Sega under the license of Disney.

The only other Mickey Mouse title that had reached both the MD/Super NES was Mickey Mania. A title from Sony no less (formerly Psygnosis)

Re: SEGA Reveals Its E3 Lineup

Dunric

@Tysamu I agree with you 100%! This system has so much untapped potential that really isn't getting shown well at all. Castle of Illusion still is one of my favorite games from the Mega Drive/Genesis and never came to the Wii Virtual console since their agreement with Disney expired.

It was a real shame as those were the absolute best platformers on the system. So I have high hopes that once all the dust has settled, that Castle of Illusion would see a Wii U eShop release unless it remains a regional issue as this is a UK website and I'm from the US.

There was a lot of great stuff that was released in the UK for the PS3 via PSN that we never got in the US. Out Run HD is one of them. Perhaps Castle of Illusion falls under this mess until the final word is given.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Update Arriving with Luigi's DLC

Dunric

Just finally catching news of this overshadowed by the Super Luigi U content more Pro Controller love! Needless to say I was rather frustrated by the limited battery life of the game pad for single player. I hope the patch has a SNES button layout for the Pro. After buying two Pro controllers I was rather annoyed that I'd be waiting for the days of the new Super Smash Bros offering support for them.

I feel that Pro Controller support should be mandatory in all Wii U games. Next up is hope for Lego City to get an update.

Re: SEGA Reveals Its E3 Lineup

Dunric

After watching the IGN trailer, I have to say, even as a huge Sega fan that I'm really on the fence about Lost World. Generations (had for PS3) was a real treat. These abstract courses ala Super Mario Galaxy with a bit of Klonoa 2 tossed in the mix. (I was actually looking for pipes to drop down into! Haha!)

It feels and looks like too many cooks were in the kitchen on this title. Oddly enough the Sega nut in me wants to buy it but I'm having conflicts with the other part called common sense. The graphics look decent enough but it just doesn't look like a true Sonic game. With a little tweaking, this could almost work as a new NiGHTS game more than a Sonic game.

I feel that this game won't review or bode too well after the awesome Sonic Generations multi console release.

In addition, I've seen the the 3DS pushed much harder than what this game is showing. Hopefully it's just an early build.

Re: Ubisoft: With The Right Games Wii U Will Find Its Public

Dunric

One other thought came to mind last night as I was playing NFS: Most Wanted U. I really hope the lame naming of such games ending with U doesn't start a trend...

Okay, the real thought, do you all think post E3 that system sales will take off as Nintendo hopes and the most of us here (save for the trolls) to a point where more developers take the Wii U seriously such as Ubisoft? For mass appeal, the system needs a lot more third party love than it currently has. I do hope more systems sell and the Wii U doesn't end up as a "companion console" with a PS4 or XBONE as the mainstream system where all the games end up going to.

It was how the original Wii was used for the current generation systems got the masses but the Wii was only for the Nintendo exclusives. I have high hopes of the Wii U becoming a modern Super NES with great first party and awesome third party games, I have high hopes, but I just hope they are not misplaced.

Re: Ubisoft: With The Right Games Wii U Will Find Its Public

Dunric

@Shiryu You may be right on that part as the mainstream versions (PS3 & 360) are possibly feature complete and being tested to make the September release window on the other hand, the PC, Xbox One and PS4 do not have a launch window as the systems have yet to be sold.

It's possible that the PC version may reach the supposed launch window but I really haven't followed that as I own a Mac and there's no way my Core 2 Duo Based MacBook Pro will be fast enough for the baseline specs (I've played plenty of PC games including Skyrim on my Mac but GTA 4 was too much for my Mac and Nvidia 330m after trying a friends copy who runs a quad i7 and a SLI video card setup...)
Focusing on the next gen yet unreleased game systems should allow time to port code to the Wii U, but it all falls back on if making the Wii U port is worth the risk since consoles are not exactly flying off shelves.

So the whole risk vs. reward issue comes to the point of where a decision can be made. I'm sure the game will sell very well and R* will meet it's ROI from the existing platforms. Had the Wii U sold in greater numbers as hoped, I'm sure it would have been considered.

Re: Shadow of the Eternals "Unlikely" To Be Released If Funding Methods Fail

Dunric

Either way despite the politics and crowd funding failure, why not re-release Eternal Darkness upscaled to 1080p and have a portion of the money of sales of that game to the fans that loved it help fund a successor to the game. I'd love to get a original copy of ED, but sadly, it's very hard to find and also quite expensive complete in box. MGS: Twin Snakes was a great remix of the Playstation classic. A bit overdone in some areas but one heck of an awesome GameCube title.

Re: Ubisoft: With The Right Games Wii U Will Find Its Public

Dunric

@LDXD The original Wii for me was also a "companion" console to my PS3. I have a huge soft spot for classics and invested a insane amount of money on Virtual Console games (well over $400 at my best guess) and the emulation for each system on the old Wii was spot on perfect amazingly enough.

That and the retail games I've bought for it over the years, I'd say I got my money's worth but also completely outnumbered by my PS3 library which was just shy of 40 retail games not to mention PSN online purchases.

I sold my PS3 system bit by bit online to help fund the purchase of my Wii U Deluxe console and six games with a Wii U Pro Controller.

No buyers remorse as I love the hardware and all of the games on my PS3 were beaten or just got bored with them. Of the exclusives like Little Big Planet and more, my Vita does the job nicely.

My PS3 was showing signs of age and I guess my computer will do the heavy lifting for GTA 5

I could have bought the Wii U system outright if I wanted, but I prefer having some $$$ in my savings and spent enough upgrading my mobile phone from my old Galaxy Nexus to a iPhone 5

Re: Ubisoft: With The Right Games Wii U Will Find Its Public

Dunric

@LDXD not sure which side of the pond you're on, but in a huge vast ocean of Wii Shovelware, it was tough to find the gems when which combed through were not that many from third parties.

That is why I hope so much that Nintendo can and will reject such games on the Wii U and have a true hardcore and family friendly platform this time around.

The potential of the original Wii yet to be truly tapped much like so late in the life of the origninal Wii, the best visuals were only wrangled out of it with Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (loved the out of focus impressionist art style that blended together with a great mix between the cell shaded graphics of Wind Waker and the more realistic look of Twilight Princess)

The third party games that looked truly great or pushed the Wii in any form were very few indeed. Xenoblade Chronicles while published by Nintendo was never thought possible by many Nintendo forums and at the launch of the Wii, the best looking games on the system were GameCube titles...

In sharp contrast, the launch games we have on the Wii U were ports from existing consoles that had over seven years of development on them getting every last bit out of them. Having both NFS:HP for my PS3 and the new Wii U release, the visual difference was amazing in every way. While poly count looked pretty much unchanged, the boost in textures and lighting were amazing! All from a developer/publisher which we may never see another quality title from.

It's a bit of humble pie honestly, but I still praise Criterion for going the extra mile and taking advantage of the extra memory in the Wii U as they are an amazing developer stuck on a leash by their publisher (EA).

Sorry for the long winded posts folks but as a former developer, I always loved going the extra mile and doing what I felt was right but constrained by time limits, budgets, and the all important part.

Return On Investment. The key focus that publishers consider when deciding what systems get which games or not. I can see why the once exclusive Rayman for the Wii U was pushed back for multiplatform for the large investment in the game. With nearly stalled sales of the Wii U, Ubisoft made a tough but wise decision.

It wasn't to upset the exclusive nature Rayman once had on the Wii U but a business decision to maximize the profit margin thus having more potential sales and capital to work with on other projects. This is why I always encourage Nintendo console owners to support third party games.

Far more developers and publishers risked GameCube releases of many games but few Gamecube owners ever bought the games save for a select few, it is the primary reason why the Wii was pelted with rubbish. So this time around, consider third party purchases on the Wii U and perhaps in the near future with this more powerful console, publishers may consider the Wii U after all. If the games come, more systems sell and we all win in the long run.

It won't happen overnight mind you, but its just how game projects are planned and proposed. Maximum ROI is the ultamate goal for any company in the gaming business.

Re: Ubisoft: With The Right Games Wii U Will Find Its Public

Dunric

@LDXD The main problem is shaking the family nature if need be, after all, Bad Fur Day on the original XBox seen more censorship than the classic and collectible N64 title (which I love)

I feel that the Wii U (given the chance with such games) can still play a multiple role. It has user accounts, family restrictions, you name it. The PS3 had the same but rarely was used nor explained well if you wanted your pre-teen mowing down people with a chainsaw etc.

Nintendo perhaps likes that mass opinion but it really is showing in both quality (all the horrible shovelware on the Wii which could have been so much better had Nintendo tightened the ropes letting every developer dump the quick cash trash of the past.

I hope this never happens again...

Re: Ubisoft: With The Right Games Wii U Will Find Its Public

Dunric

@LDXD

I feel you misunderstood me. In the beginning of the PS3's life span it was lambasted for its high cost and few games on US shelves that did very little to impress until Uncharted released showing the muscle of the system of the time. I am not blind to how things improved over the years as when the first price drop for the system hit the shelves, I bought mine and loved it ever since. I then upgraded to the second generation "slim" which was a vast improvement and even better, had full HDMI CEC compatibility with the rest of my AV rig which happened to be all Sony. A huge jump in simplicity as all you needed to so was power on the PS3 and the rest of my equipment automatically set itself up, powering on my TV and such.

Fantastic system with a vast number of great games (I also own the Vita).

I know the system is the top console right now but felt no need to mention it as its pretty much common knowledge. Sorry if you're offended by that...

The reason I mention GTA on the Wii U is if it happened. Like many other great third party titles that will NOT be published for the system is I wish the console had more mass appeal, with that, come more great games. Need I say more? No reason for the insult...

Re: Ubisoft: With The Right Games Wii U Will Find Its Public

Dunric

@MadAdam81 I do have Lego City Undercover and I think it's great personally. But attracting more gamers via any of the GTA games on a Nintendo console will attract those who love the Nintendo exclusives along with hopeful third party support. Those who wish not to have GTA on their Wii U can simply not buy it or use the parental controls to keep such games off the family game system.

I know Nintendo wishes to attract families, mass appeal to the Wii U getting top notch third party support along with Ninteno exclusives would be the perfect mix I feel.

Shake the "kiddy" image and getting mass appeal in more markets (especially the US) would be an awesome stride for a "new image" for Nintendo where most "hardcore" gamers will refuse to buy a Wii U simply for the fact of it being a Nintendo console.

Re: Ubisoft: With The Right Games Wii U Will Find Its Public

Dunric

@Shiryu I agree, many gamers these days are a bit spoiled. Especially those who have gone multiconsole like I have with the original Wii and PS3. Both the Wii and PS3 had really rough starts with waggle jokes and no games on the PS3 memes for years. How the tides have changed.

I really hope Rock* considers a Wii U version of GTA V. The hardware can easily handle the game as the Wii U has no problem holding its ground with the Xbox 360 and PS3. Yet the Wii U goes ignored with the greatest multiplatform title in years. The Wii U needs that game or forever will it be the laughing stock for years to come.

Re: Ubisoft: With The Right Games Wii U Will Find Its Public

Dunric

If Ubi supports the Wii U, I for one would gladly return the favor with all the offerings that suit my taste. Count one for Black Flag, Ray Man, and even Watch Dogs. Hopefully others will do the same so that more developers get the message. We don't want shovelware, quality games with the right support could hopefully turn the Wii U into a "modern" SNES.

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th June (North America)

Dunric

I already bought Trine 2 the last time it was on sale for ten bucks. I wish I had an option to get the previous 30 cent games as I had my Wii U just now for a month.

One thing that has me grumbling is the discontinuation of network services for the original Wii. I used the news channel quite often. No more multiplayer MK Wii channel update. All the extras on the Wii I used are going away forever. I find that a shame. Oh well...

Re: Ian Livingstone: Nintendo Should Have Their IP On Every Platform

Dunric

Nintendo has a wonderful knack for making a new console while affordable to consumers, still profitable despite the competition. So why would they kill such a great business model. Even the Wii U is a perfect example. Historically this is the first system that Nintendo has sold at at loss but the sale of a retail game of one game has them in the black. Unlike other companies that put so much in, they run at a operating loss for a number of years until either enough hardware is sold or gaining ground from software sales. Perhaps that's why both Microsoft and Sony want to curb used game sales. It's odd really but when you think about it all. Nintendo has been doing well financially for years. It's just the stigma that so called hardcore gamers would rather not have a Nintendo console for the fear of being caught with a casual gaming device in their hardcore gaming setup.

Nintendo will always have a system for their IP's regardless. As those games are the bread & butter of their income and selling a system too, why not?

Re: Pachter Predicts Wii U Price Cut, Feels Nintendo Is Losing "Non-Traditional" Players To Social And Mobile

Dunric

Considering the possible prices that Sony and Microsoft may be at, I doubt a price drop this early in the Wii U life span would be a wise thing to do. Not only will it send the wrong message to the consumer to believe the Wii U is truly dead and that Nintendo is ready to give in so soon. They should stick to their guns and get some games out the door. Even if they are more ports of current generation titles while working on projects that will push the system visually and look like a true next generation system.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U vs Xbox One - Online Requirements and On-Disc DRM

Dunric

@ramstrong the few hour system update really annoyed me. Despite having a 50MB Internet connection with a 250GB cap. The download speeds from Nintendo to the Wii U system is awful regardless.

The other problem is when buying full retail titles from the eShop. No size given on titles such as the game I bought due to bad weather but favorable review scores. Lego City Undercover after finishing downloading by the following day came to a 19GB! Now when updating my Mac, some updates or full game titles have downloaded and installed ready to go in only hours. Even games I bought digital versions of for my PS Vita still downloaded and installed much faster.

Nintendo has either a dodgy network issue on the Wii U regardless over Wireless N or using the USB network adapter from the old Wii.

It's either the system or the datacenter that Nintendo is using is clogged not being able to keep with demand. It's frustrating being an early adopter.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U vs Xbox One - Online Requirements and On-Disc DRM

Dunric

@Joshers744 used games I buy often are not found at retailers. Money isn't an issue for me so the uppity takes on the "ur poor lulz" that many people like to use when I'm bargain hunting for games that are collectible or otherwise. Next to my Wii U on a lower shelf sits my N64 setup. Where few games that are collectible are reasonably priced.

Re: Former Rockstar Producer Considers the Challenges Facing Home Consoles

Dunric

@TheRealThanos no biggie, the hype has settled and gamers are rethinking about choosing the Xbox One to the PS4 which has yet to make its debut. Certainly those who can afford to do so will most likely have more than one game console. The one with the least restriction this time around is the Wii U. Not charging you to play a used game nor the rather intrusive nature of DRM measures by Microsoft really reared an ugly face nearly punishing the honest gamer by requiring a online connection to verify your game licenses every so often or the leashed less expensive model requiring a constant Internet connection. Should your ISP fail, no game for you!

Chances are I may be looking into this too deeply but I expect my privacy online be it reading something on Wikipedia or playing a game on my computer or even my game systems.

In the end, it's just a heat of the moment discussion, being part of a large developer in the past, I take my knowledge with me and as both Sony and Microsoft are switching to x86, backward compatibility on the PS4 is not likely either. Now all I want is a good quantity of quality games for the Wii U and to save the system from shovelware. For those devs sticking with the Wii U, I'm happy to have them around. More so when we start seeing the much untapped potential of the Wii U in the future.

Re: Weirdness: A Wii U Gamer's Miiverse Journey Through Super Metroid

Dunric

Very much a joke account. When I first played Super Metroid (on a real SNES), my completion time was at the 11 hour mark even when I halfway understood what I was doing. I just slapped that cartridge in and during that day, the Internet was nothing like it is now. No YouTube and whopping 40 MegaByte hard disk drives on your "laptop" PC. Complete for your best BBS or if you paid for QuantumLink.

Re: Review: Super Metroid (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)

Dunric

Despite having the game already on my original Wii, 30 cents was too good to pass up and test drive the Virtual Console on the Wii U.

Honestly, I have rather mixed feelings. The games themselves eat up over three times of the original ROM data used in the Wii with both having DRM measures bordering on military grade security despite that and mixed consoles aside, it's all about this 24 megabit masterpiece that was truly the pinnacle of the Metroid franchise.

I love the Prime titles but they lack a certain wonder that Super Metroid had. Most of its visuals weren't fancy mode 7 madness, this game sold and lasted the test of time with solid visual detail, a haunting soundtrack in the beginning the brought back all those moments you struggled through on the NES. The long series of platforms leading to where you met your previous arch nemesis from years past, now dark and moody. Every bit of this game plays on nearly all your senses all in just the first hour of the game alone where you have barely scratched the surface. Revisiting familiar territory. After one of the best escape scenes as only an intro.

Once you got it all together, you knew you were in for something truly special. This was pure gold and one of the best games in the 16 bit era of gaming. It raised the bar on subtle visual effects that made the world feel alive and truly is a masterpiece. This game should never get a modern remake nor brought to 3D by the most talented of all developers.

Super Metroid is truly a perfect game with a wonderful difficulty curve and dare I say the best Metroid game of the series. Not saying I dislike the Prime series (which was incredible using the Wii controls) but Super Metroid gave you no walkthrough nor held your hand like the GBA games did, it was and still is the best Metroid game of all time.

I pity those who hate older games like this as they never were shown anything earlier than a GameCube at most (which was a great game system), or the fanboys that refuse to acknowledge the game for what it was.

I tip my hat for the man who brought us this franchise as well as the saving grace at times for Nintendo. Gunpei Yokoi 横井 軍平, may he rest in peace

Re: Aksys Games To Reveal Two New Titles At E3

Dunric

Muramasa on the Wii is a work of art and a real sleeper. Hence the re-release of the game which isn't easy to find in collectible form for the Wii. If you do find it. Still have my original Wii version and a large poster of the cover artwork.

Re: Former Rockstar Producer Considers the Challenges Facing Home Consoles

Dunric

@b23cdq the internal SCE project name for the PlayStation was PSX. Please research before spouting off. I used to do launch product game submission packages before a game would be assigned a region code and prefix.

So if that annoys you, I'd recommend a bit of research first. I do know the difference between the two and the PSX was a common moniker before the PS2 became common resulting in the "PS One" or variants of which evolved.

So again before correcting someone. Make sure you know what you're correcting. That annoys me.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's Next-Gen Challenge Starts to Take Shape

Dunric

The other factor is still the PS3 as well which I'm sure Sony will support to its last breath (much like the PS2 slim before). Nintendo Is in a tight spot as they have two stigmas to shake. One is the awful quality control of software allowed to be released on the original Wii. It was extremely hard to find a decent game in a sea of crap budget titles that hurt the system badly. If the Wii U can escape the shovelware problems of the past, it's one step for the better.

The second step is to get more M rated releases for the system even if they are a multiplatform release. Getting to the core gamer and the hardcore gamer is the largest challenge Nintendo will ever face. Even if its ports of various games from current generation systems. Will we ever see the full potential of the Wii U in action? Nobody knows as only the best visuals on the original Wii were games from Nintendo and not any third party. I hope we don't have a rerun of the same situation.

Re: Former Rockstar Producer Considers the Challenges Facing Home Consoles

Dunric

@banacheck Lunchbox is correct but both ended up as a failure. As the failed partnership between Phillips, Nintendo gave them rights to develop a handful of games starring key Nintendo characters. Phillips was further along but after seeing the poor performance in sales on CD based accessories, broke ties with Phillips. Sony had moved close to a finished product.

As a result, Sony completed what they had from the existing project design and the prototype known as PSX was born.

Re: Former Rockstar Producer Considers the Challenges Facing Home Consoles

Dunric

@TheRealThanos I'm sorry I got your panties in a wad due to my phone blowing up via multiple twitter feeds and other misc. madness. Still you can't deny the possibility of Microsoft pulling a repeat of what they have done for original Xbox owners. That was pure dirty business dropping it like a bad habit. Sure the chipset was costing a lot of money for production but to completely sweep it under the rug was not cool and the 360 software emulation was rubbish on some games including Halo 2, hard locks with Conker Live & reloaded. I didn't have time to watch the whole presentation as I was working. What data I had had my phone going wild from HTML updates, twitter, and my personal email.

One fact I can state is that is looks like a dish network dvr box in many ways and that the latest COD game will have something called a "story" built into the game. What madness is this!?!?

If such news or a post bothers you this much, step back, breathe, and play a game or two. A ton of information was crossfed everywhere. Some opinions, satire and typical console wars. This is Nintendo related site after all.

Re: Former Rockstar Producer Considers the Challenges Facing Home Consoles

Dunric

One issue I forgot to mention are the disenfranchised. Those who have a massive library of games for the previous system and say once the new Xbox One releases, will Microsoft pull the rug out from under the 360 just as they had to the first generation Xbox with shoddy software emulation. Sony cut the PS2 cord to bring down manufacturing costs early on and to have that feature it required a major investment. Finally backward compatibility was spot on due to hardware being so similar. Only in the last year or so was GameCube shed from the original Wii mainly for cost reduction.

It's another issue as the attach rate on the 360 was so high, that I feel Microsoft shot themselves in the foot. Sony may fare better but the Wii U already had that part nailed as many Wii owners don't sell their first party games. It's strange really that games like Super Mario Galaxy 2 still sell for its original retail price.

Re: Former Rockstar Producer Considers the Challenges Facing Home Consoles

Dunric

I do see a major shift in the lead of the so called "console wars" simplicity is key but so is the consumer base that makes a decision on what their next system may be. If it be a Wii U or PS4 etc. those more focused on games gets my dollar, any extras are a nice bonus. I see Sony making huge waves but only when MSRPs are given.

Re: Feature: Ten SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis Games We Want on the Wii U Virtual Console

Dunric

It's extremely hard to pick just one as you have excellent picks already but some Genesis/MD classics such as Rocket Knight adventures and Alissa Dragoon (both did an amazing job of pushing the old hardware but one other game that many loved (as long as you had a six button pad back then) was Ranger X. My pick from the list was Road Rash II as it was so much fun and beyond two sequels on later consoles, the franchise has never been seen again. The last game was asking a bit too much of the original PlayStation and it outright flopped. The earlier PS title was a direct port from the awesome 3DO version which IMO, beyond the 16 bit series on the Genesis and Sega CD, put the series into a whole new level of awesome! Bring on my picks and Road Rash
