I think the Switch is the best console ever made, but I also think it's pretty telling that one of the games getting the most press for the Switch 2 launch is 5 years old. It's Skyrim all over again, which I excitedly bought for Switch, marvelled for an hour that I could play it on the go, then remembered that I'd already played through it several times on my 360 and never touched it again.
That being said, with the recent price hikes across all things videogame, this just doesn't seem like a good value prospect to me anymore. I re-bought so many games on Switch for silly mark-ups so I could play them on the go and it was great. Then I got a Steam Deck and re-bought a load of them again for pennies in Steam sales. I've no doubt Cyberpunk runs better on Switch 2 than on Steam Deck, it's newer hardware after all, but when the Steam Deck 2 comes out I will be able to play Cyberpunk again, immediately, at higher settings than on Switch 2, for free. Same with every other game I've bought on Steam, the VAST majority of which already run well enough on Steam Deck ("unsupported" or not). I know as this hobby continues to get more and more expensive, I'm gonna be buying fewer new games and relying much more on my backlog, which I will want to be able to download and play at the highest settings possible on whatever device I'm using, no waiting for developers to release newer versions, no paying for upgrades.
Having said THAT, I know as soon as a new Zelda is announced I'll be picking up a Switch 2, but these ports of old games are just not that much of a selling point anymore, to me at least.
Nothing about the 10 second looping atmos tracks?? The Cistern was made 10x more frustrating by the fact I had to listen to that weird echoey diarrhoea fart sound over and over and over again. The loop on the sounds for the waterfalls etc is also horrible. Can't remember if it was like that in the originals but regardless this seems like a no brainer to fix...
@RupeeClock My thoughts exactly, SONY is very much still supporting the PS4. If anything I think this just supports the notion of backwards compatibility on Switch 2.
@Stamina_Wheel those are not the only two options. Either remaster the game - improve the assets, up the resolution, implement some QoL improvements etc and sell it at a premium, or do the bare minimum and just get the thing running and sell it for a reasonable price. The GTA trilogy and this RDR release fall into neither of these categories...
They need to sort out the difficulty scaling on these games. I loved Age of Calamity and played most of it on hard because I actually had to block and dodge and play a wee bit tactically, but by the later levels those Guardians were taking me an age to take down (pun intended) purely because their health bars were so ridiculously massive. They weren't particularly challenging, they just took too long to kill and it got boring.

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility
Yeah sorry, I agree with every single other person in these comments. The day the Switch 2 isn't BC is the day I buy a Steam Deck
