Re: Guide: How To Fix A Drifting Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Analogue Stick

Dilated

I was going to get on here and ask how wide spread this issue really is, then I saw the lengthy comments section. I’ve had my newest switch and had the left drift but it was fixed by simply power cycling the console. I should note that I had 3 controllers paired at the time which is really 5 devices. A pro controller and 2 joy con sets.
Makes me worry some, just redesign it Nintendo. Or release a “new improved”
Joy con you can sell if you can’t admit there’s a problem.

As I said to another commenter on this thread. Let’s say it is a traditional console but with more “specs” who is willing to plop down another $500-$600 to play games you can already play on the other two systems just with better FPS? I’m sure some would but more of the same doesn’t seem like it will sell all that well. If that just leaves streaming then, just look at any thread of comments under a cable/internet companies post on social media.
A lot of times it’s the end users router that’s really slowing things down but good luck educating the public on anything.

@Tharsman
Right? And who’s wanting to put down another $500 to $600 just to have yet another “specs” console that does the same thing as the other two just prettier? This is why I argue that next gen is going to have a hard time selling itself in large numbers unless they bring smash hit titles with them. This google thing, honestly I haven’t heard of it despite visiting this page, ign, and PCgamer daily.

Unless it’s well under 30 and stutters/tears a lot I don’t even think about FPS on Switch it’s not why I bought it. Now on my PC I built with a GTX1080Ti paired with a 7700k I watch the FPS I get from 4k or 1440p games. They look so good on that rig.
I’m (36 years old though) I’ve watched graphics move from the 8-bit early days of Mario to the HD 4k bump mapped masterworks we see and take for granted today. All I’m getting at is in the end, is the game fun and or stress relieving? FPS...I’ll never understand why people get so worked up about it on consoles or handhelds unless it breaks the game in some way (fortnight...still don’t get why people play this) but to each their own.

I would be curious to see the numbers percentage wise of how many players are playing fortnight on switch vs PS4/X1/PC I’m betting it’s a small percent because it’s an online competitive game and people will play where their friends are. Never been big on fortnight, I prefer realistic military shooters like Socom personally.
I don’t think there’s a switch owner out there overly concerned with Frames per second unless it’s just atrocious. portable Dark Souls 30 is fine if it isn’t for some people and 60 is needed then buying the switch was their 1st mistake.
It’s a portable of course there will be limitations but imo. Games look solid on it and what switch offers is a library that looks a lot different than Sony or Microsoft.
I think the big N knew it would be suicide to come out with a “specs” console that’s exactly the same as Sony and Microsoft but add Nintendo games because that space is crowded and most gamers already have one of those boxes in their home by the time the switch launched. To get gamers to spend their hard earned cash Nintendo offered something entirely different, and it’s been paying off for them in a big way. I remember when the launch store only had maybe 8 games and fit on one screen, now though tons of Indi’s (Not big on these) and larger studios are realizing that there is a market for their previous gen releases on a mobile device hence the switch versions of several games that once were housed on X360 or PS3 or Steam.
It’s fine if you really care about FPS or the graphics, I used to when I was in my teens and through early adulthood as tech was evolving in leaps and bounds. SNES/Genesis to the PlayStation was a massive leap in visuals.
Switch is not perfect, but for what it is the portable is pretty stout and gets the job done fairly well. Diablo 3 couch multiplayer is something I haven’t had with a diablo game since it was released on PlayStation in the 90’s. The switch may survive 7 years like the 3DS but I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo had it’s follow up to the switch out by then.

@Yogsoggoth
The switch isn’t about having downgraded versions of what’s offered on Xbox and PlayStation. The switch is it’s own thing. Nintendo IP’s, Indy’s (I’m not big on) and last gen AAA ports that are now able to be played on the go, which has made the console gain traction and success.
I agree that this idea that it’s gonna last as long as they are saying is ansurd. But what I can see is the switch becoming like an iPhone where Switch 2 releases but previous switch titles work on it and we have some games that work on switch but are enhanced on switch 2 and slowly less and less games come out for switch and are solely for switch 2.

@Amrulez
I think the next gen systems from Microsoft and Sony will be harder to sell than people might think especially if the big selling point on them is “more power” once again. Release after release the graphical gains we’ve seen as hardware improves has shrank steadily to the point where they are becoming far less obvious. Take for example my PC it has a GTX1080Ti in it and games maxed out in 4k look incredible, take a screen shot though, and take a screen of the same game from an Xbox X and the images are nearly identical to your average consumer. Where my Pc shines is how fluid games run in 4k or 1440p.
Now imagine the mass market, they see games that look the same or only slightly nicer than what they’ve seen on their PS4 and they are asked to spend $400-$500 for the privelage of playing. I don’t think people will be quick to buy unless they bring something more to the table. But only time will tell I guess.

@Kevember unless you are a senator or mega rich you don’t really get to create bad conditions like the cost of home ownership. You just age out of high school and participate in the economy or live as a homeless person if you choose not to like everyone else did since the inception of local economies of scale. I’m 36 and lived all of my 20’s during the financial crisis and hopefully you won’t have to go through that because there’s nothing like being in your prime and not being able to afford a morning coffee. Country was shedding 720,000 jobs per month back then, and banks that were 200 years old were closing. Mathematically we know that the current trend cannot continue and a crash of the dollar will happen, but I would rather that happens when I’m dead because living through the civil war a calamity like that would create would be a nightmare on a scale we can’t even begin to imagine.

I’m gonna send a strong message by buying the game soon as it comes out (Resident Evil 1) I’m 36 yrs old and loved that game since it’s release on PS1 many years back. $30 stinks but I’m not so tight that I want to wait however many months for a possible $10 drop. Switch tax stinks but It seems to be the way it is.

Same, and as I've stated on here $30 really isn't that much money if you work full time. I remember being a student and saving my daily lunch money ($2/day) to buy a single playstation game in a month at that rate, yeah this would be expensive. But as a working adult its an easy purchase for me (resident Evil 1 HD) because I love the original mansion setting. I think the 3DS game cart Resident Evil DS deadly silence still sets you back around $30 and thats when you can find it.

I'm not going to defend the pricepoint because I agree there shouldn't be this switch tax. I am starting to wonder if we are seeing more and more devs port last gen games to up sell them to the portable market. Personally though, $30 isn't a lot of money but I guess that's all relative. I'm thinking anyone who works full time can afford the game without thinking much about it but those of us on the forum that are part time or still students in high school this would be expensive. I say that to counter some of the comments that claim "only fan boys will pay this much for the game" not necessarily true, I plan on buying it but $30 really wont affect me I drop that much on caffeine every 4 days or so.

Re: Want Resident Evil On Your Switch? You'd Better Have Deep Pockets

While it isn't great that we have to pay more for switch games from what I understand is it all comes down to the cost of the cart and Nintendo forcing companies to charge the same for Digital games as they do for physical games. I went straight digital with the switch because of its portable nature I didn't want to have to fiddle around with game cards. Like any good tablet I wanna whip it out and go. Personally I wouldnt be surprised if more and more people went digital only over the next few years, PC has been this way for a very long time now. Companies like gamestop are floundering because more and more customers are going this route, just look at their 1 year stock performance chart, scary stuff.
