Re: Vote For Your Favourite Game Boy Games!

Dilated

I was alive when the Game Boy was around but my family was too poor for me to own one as a kid, let alone get games. Typically my little brother and I just shared one console between the two of us and we played on that, for a long while it was the NES, then my sister won a Genesis, then we got an SNES, last system we shared was the original PlayStation. Always wanted a GameBoy, had to settle with Tiger Electronics games instead on the go ,

Re: Random: Nintendo Reminds Us That Yes, Switch Will Eventually Stop Getting NES Games

Here’s my question. How will this work? Nintendo games are playable on the switch when the user is not on the internet for up to 7 days, which means the games are stored on the console itself. This is fine as Nintendo games are in the KB data range. The SNES, games files are still small
But larger in the MB range, anything higher and they may need you to be able to choose to physically download it or hopefully this isn’t the case, stream them (vomits).
I’ve yet to hear any thoughts on this but it’s something I’ve been pondering for some time now.

@sdelfin
I read about this on ign.com as well, AtGames isn’t involved in the unit at all.
It’s Sega and M2 which I’ve heard nothing but good things about.
As a kid maybe 12-13 years old, earlier I was a big Sega fan because they had Blood in Mortal Kombat (A,B,A,C,A,B,B on 1st grey title screen) you hear Scorpion’s “Get Over Here!” And the text turns red, classic Nostalgia hits me in the feels!
I remember playing a lot of odd titles on the console back then as I was still developing my taste in games, sadly I hadn’t played any RPG’s at that point other than Zelda but no real ones, so it was Mortal Kombat, Sonic, Evander Holyfield boxing, Two Crude Dudes, Altered Beast, Street Fighter, and anything else that had “good graphics” for that era lol I thought that was important back then haha!
I didn’t taste the glory of a good RPG until my cousin forced me to rent a little game on the 1st PlayStation Called “Diablo” after that came Final Fantasy VII, then Skies of Arcadia on Dreamcast and I’ve been a fan of that genre ever since.

Here’s a thought I had about the Nintendo service. Nintendo games are playable “Offline” which means they are actually stored on the console itself. This is all fine and well where Nintendo games are concerned as they aren’t even 1mb in size, but if Nintendo adds SNES, N64 ect, it will require more and more HD space on the console unless Nintendo adds an Online requirement, then we would be streaming unfortunately.
It’s making me wonder if Nintendo will actually release more than just NES titles in the future on the service or if Nintendo will sell these titles sorta like Arcade Classics or the former Virtual Console. (just not call
It Virtual Console)
Maybe I missed it, but oddly enough I don’t see too many people talking about this possibility.

Yea but my fear was more concerning safer sites. For example there used to be a site that was simply “BitTorrent.com” it was clean, no ads and never gave me system issues.
Over time many of these sites were shut down through cease and desist letters.
Or worse, the sites began to be filled with ads for porno or other pop ups, and hosted many unsafe torrent files.

So my OP was more asking if there’s a safe site that still exists out there, I’ve been out of that world for so long that I am unsure if safe sites exist.

Have you never heard of “Game Mode”? Nearly every HD and 4K smart TV has this option and it turns off all post processing effects and eliminates input lag on game consoles.
I had this input lag issue you stated on NES remix for WiiU and it was instantly fixed by turning Game Mode on.
I’m an old school gamer too, 36 years old and have plenty of experience with the old school consoles as I buy and sell these systems on EBay as a side business and test them on CRT. Even NES games on switch run perfect on my 4k Samsung as long as Game Mode is on.

If only I knew where to get the Roms I would have kept my PS classic. I would love to have had that system to keep Intelligence cube, but add Diablo, Warcraft, Mortal Kombat 3, Castlevania SOTN, Resident Evil 2, I could go on but you get the point.
I used to get things from Pirate Bay but I haven’t downloaded Roms or bootlegged anything in years now, maybe 6 years? Longer? It just became not worth it any more due to the massive load of viruses that plague Pirate Bay, and my current PC setting me back around $2,500 even my Laptop was $1,000 it’s just not worth it anymore.
I am curious though, unless you had the Roms on a hard drive that you collected a long time ago, curious what sites if any still exist out there.

The original Diablo on Playstaton PSX is one of the hardest I’ve found to get my hands on. Almost no one has that in their for sale collections. It’s not even that crazy expensive between $60-$150 or so, way crazier on Amazon nearly $400 the last time I checked. But still it’s hard to find when I go on the hunt. I eventually broke down and bought a PS3 and just loaded it up with classics from the online store, especially seeing what that PSX classic has on it.

Silly question but, what is “SEGA ages”? Do you have to purchase all these games individually? Or is this a thing you download and games are released for it like NES games on the Nintendo service? I assume you pay individually but the article says more games coming for SEGA ages.
I appreciate any clarification.

I will say that it seems that Nintendo has laid the groundwork with the switch to sorta streamline their service and potentially allow for a “Switch family” of consoles heading into the future. Personally I would be fine if Nintendo continues this path well into the future as a mobile device w/ home console docking. Maybe iterate on the system every 2-3 years and give it a nice power bump once every 5 or so years.
This is what I felt that Microsoft was doing when the president said “we are doing away with console generations” to me it felt like they were going to go the Apple route offering a console that gets revised and upgraded over time.

Re: Random: Darksiders: Warmastered Edition Will Ruin Your Switch Shelf

I assume you’ve had steam at some point in your life though?
I bring it up because I’ve never had this experience that you mentioned here. A quick example is Alan Wake, that game is no longer available for new customers to purchase through steam, years ago I bought it. I am still able to delete it from my drive and redownload the game even though it’s no longer for sale, and that’s through steam.
I do get your point though, if your memory card craps out when the switch is retired and the store is no longer available, you are out of luck. My hope is this is a scenerio that doesn’t happen but in the console market it seems a legitimate concern. After all look at the Wii, that shop is shuttered, then again they didn’t have a way to attach purchased games to a Nintendo ID like Nintendo has today. My hope is that Nintendo continues to iterate on this device like Apple does iPhone or samasung on Galaxy albeit at a slower pace, a newer model every 2-3 years with tweaks and major changes every 5 years or so with major changes to Processor and screen.
This little gadget could be a good thing for Nintendo for awhile as the groundwork they’ve laid thus far has been solid.

Agreed, where I draw the line at the moment is streaming. I don’t mind digital at all because I can play all my games whether I’m on the network or offline entirely. I’ve had a digital only library for well over 14 years on PC and that hasn’t affected me at all. Currently I’m all digital on switch which capitalized on its biggest draw, portability.
I do understand people like to collect things so there’s always that, as I used to collect comics. But I think you are correct we are heading into a future where physical media is a relic of the past.

Where do you find them? Is it all online because it seems the big retailers only carry the major release stuff.
I’m 36yrs old and stubborn so, not growing up buying things online I almost never do it because I don’t want to wait on shipping.
The switch being a portable, I went into it knowing I was going to go all digital mainly for convenience purposes, even though I knew Nintendo games hold their value and I wouldn’t have any resale value in my collection.
Still though, I guess I didn’t know the switch had so many retail releases.

That’s nuts, you have the biggest collection of switch carts than anyone I’ve ever heard of so far. No way you play all those games it’s more for collecting I presume?
I used to collect comics back in the day so I understand the impulse. I only have 15 games as I only pull the trigger on games I know I’ll play either alone or with family.
I would love to see an image of your collection some time cause that’s got to have some games that aren’t so easy to find in there. Go to Wal Mart and the shelf only has like 20 games, but from what I see on this web site Switch has several limited run carts.

I don’t know, Micro SD cards have gotten fairly cheap even at retail. My current card is 128GB and I have 14 Games installed, Zelda BOTW, Mario odysee, Mario U, Super Smash Bros, Diablo 3 just to name a few and I still have 60GB left. I plan on buying a 256GB Card $69.99 because I want space left after buying Final Fantasy XII and Resident Evil.
I mention all this because you made it sound like the cards aren’t that affordable. Large switch games are 16GB on average a 256GB Card will easily store over 30-40 games especially knowing that a lot of switch stuff is well under 5GB. I’m digital only because of the portable nature of the system, only draw back imo is that I lose all my resale value should the time come. Games like Zelda, Smash Bros they hold value over a long haul. Still I wouldn’t want to have to fiddle with Game Cards while I’m traveling, much better to have everything installed and ready to go.

If you don’t like nudity, don’t buy the game. No need to picket, or complain, threaten or get a game banned. That’s just being self important to the point of obscenity.

Yea I’m with you on this, I don’t understand people being upset about a newer, more powerful Switch to game on. It’s a day 1 purchase for me unless the updates are negligible. I would love an Oled screen for better image quality and far greater battery capacity. Better processor means more power with less power consumption also a really good thing.
I understand what it’s like if you are either too young to work, still in high school or if bills are so high that it’s infeasable to buy the new switch, but that doesn’t make your current switch trash just because something new got released.
Anyways, it’s all speculation until Nintendo pulls the curtain back on it.

I’ve been patiently waiting for the FF7 remake ever since they teased it (technically) showing off the capabilities of the PlayStation 3 console over 10 years ago. I think you might be hopeful if you think that game will see the light of day so soon. My gut tells me that we won’t see FF7 remaster release on PS4 and will instead be on PS5 and not at launch but somewhere in the 2 year window after PS5 launches.

Re: Reminder: Final Fantasy VII Finally Launches On A Nintendo System Today

No real need to play this series in chronological order. Every game is a self contained story with its own cast of characters and often on its own world.
FF7 was the 1st Final Fantasy I had ever sat and played all the way through when I was a kid, I played that game I believe my JR year of high school. It’s a great game but make sure you are in the mood for a classic RPG w classic mechanics like random battles (you can turn off), old school over world, party management ect.

Reading the comments about the graphics being “ugly” and several mentioning they are gonna give it a try....I think I agree with you on this. I’ve played this version of FFVII on iPad/ iPhone and for me the game doesn’t actually start until you make it to the over world and start the grind. Many gamers today haven’t experienced these old school mechanics and may not understand the love the game garnered. We will see, since it takes a few hours to step out into the over world from Midgard I’ve held off purchasing this, I’m playing IX (I’ve never played it before) at the moment and with XII incoming I don’t think I’ll have time for this on the switch.

Candidly on the Port’s comment.
For me, when they first announced the switch and I saw the graphics it had, I wanted one as I assumed many x360 and PS3 games would be ported to it and I would have those games on the go.
I say the more the merrier! Sure we can always use more 1st party Nintendo products but I’ll never understand the hate prople give to ported games.
I love having Diablo 3 on the go, or Skyrim, SMBWiiU, Final Fantasy Games, especially XII incoming right around the corner and the Resident Evil remaster! Thank you Nintendo.
I’ve played these games but having them for when I’m staying at hotels or at my cousins is so amazing.

I agree with Beermonkey, it’s not out of the question for us to see ports of some of the previous Zelda games hit the switch. Personally I would like to see the N64 games get ported over. It may be that so long as the 3DS is around they aren’t going to move these games but it’s a wait and see. I get it though, I was let down when they gave up the Virtual Console in favor of the current NES only games on the service. They should have SNES and N64 on there, for some reason they are choosing not to.

Yea, the switch will only have 1 full fledged Zelda game.
Most the time this is how it works because it takes years to make a giant Zelda game happen. Generally we see 1 big flagship
Zelda game then much smaller Zelda’s and older zeldas until a new system hits.
Personally I’m happy with BOTW, but I never expected any kind of follow up. Switch has so much on it there’s no way I’ll ever tear through my back catelogue. If you need another mainline Zelda game, I’m just saying I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I think where we got off wrong was this generational thing, admittedly I didn’t look at the wiki article, I was more looking at current trends and how most news publications tend to pit the switch and it’s sales numbers vs PS4 and X1 so I’ve always considered the switch “current gen” what ever that means in today’s world.
In effort to keep this community legit, I’ll admit my part in poking you to get a response so my apologies for that.
I just see people mentioning the WiiU and I do understand you wanting them to support you as a long time customer. Just from my point of view, I see the switch as Nintendo’s only focus so even though it’s messed up to long time supporters, it’s just not likely for them to release anything new for the system.
Again, apologies it went south as it did. I’m sure I’ll see you in the treads, I check here, IGN, and PC gamer daily.

I don’t care for having a game in my hands, I’m digital only for a few decades now on PC and my switch library is digital only. My problem lies with the unpredictability of Internet service speeds in the state of Ohio where I live. I’ve been in homes with cable modems that struggle to allow Netflix video to stream without stuttering. Also it’s nice to be able to play single player games offline especially in cases when the internet is down.
I tend to enjoy classics as it is, so I doubt I would quit gaming all together but instead play classics, it’s really the complete loss of end user control that I’m not a fan of.
Apple’s music service for example doesn’t have certain albums anymore, or how Netflix pulls titles without notice, these practices aren’t something I want to be a part of gaming.
So for me, Digital only is perfectly fine,
Always online or no gaming allowed, that’s where I say..no thanks.
Hopefully the community as a whole feels the same way, or at least a large % of the community so that this idea doesn’t happen on the large scale anytime soon. We wil
Have to wait and see, so far on comments threads I see mostly detractors with a few people saying they like the idea. So that gives me hope.

I wouldn’t hold off on XII, Final Fantasy games are complete stories each separate from the others so playing them in order doesn’t really mean much since the stories aren’t connected.
I love Final Fantasy VII but some of its elements don’t hold up well (some of the comedy for sure doesn’t) the materia system was pretty amazing though I do remember.
Personally I enjoyed XII because it has a “gambit” system that allows you to program your party AI as you unlock more gambits.
You can still issue manual commands but it gets cool as your party learns and begins to react as you programmed them to in battle.
Great game I’m so ready for it to come on switch, I own it through steam on Pc but I’m waiting on switch release for portable.

I don’t feel that way, digital games can still be played offline. When an “online connection is required” to play said digital content pops up, then it’s a problem.
With strada you can’t get around that issue.

I’m getting older though, if there isn’t a generation beyond what comes next I’ll be well into my 40’s by then and maybe it will be time to leave gaming behind once users are forcefully tied to the internet.

Very logical, but not emotional. So in my case I feel nearly no emotions for other people, other than how they can benifit me in some way.
Now, I don’t go robbing and stealing but I did that (stealing that is) in my youth before I understood my condition.
So essentially the best I can do is try to put myself in someone else’s situation and try to emulate what that might feel like it it were me, but for the most part I don’t feel anything towards others. I don’t even feel a sense of remorse for my past actions, I am grateful since I was able to learn about my own condition through them.
So as an adult, I have to actually work on myself regularly, because I’m good at convincing others to do things I need or want them to. thereby taking advantage of them in that way.
Not all sociopaths are bad people, but I wanted to explain to you why someone that does these things sleeps well because they don’t feel any pain over what they did.

Switch is current gen, it’s a complete undisputed fact! You can’t argue against this, as it’s fact!

There it, is, what ever comes after switch is next gen and you can’t win this argument because as I mentioned it’s fact!

Also you can read anywhere online that current gen is switch, made obvious by all the players gaming on it right now and people comparing its sales to PS4 and Xbox one.

The Wii U is last gen, and abandoned. You are on a current news site somehow upset about a console that is done for. Children do this sorta thing so I have to assume that’s what you are between the age of 12-17. If you are an adult, then this thread is really sad.

Re: Hands On: Should You Buy Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker's Special Episode DLC?

@KingdomHeartsFan
A tiny tensy little bit.
I mean your complaint is like screaming at SONY, or RCA for building Blu Ray players and not supporting HD DVD because a small percentage of people bought the doomed format.
Then you might as well get angry with other companies for putting music out in digital form because you bought a CD player.
The Wii U is dead, complaining doesn’t fix that. Nintendo struck gold with the market they found on the switch, and like Steve Jobs never mentioning the Apple 2 team when presenting Macintosh releasing stuff on the WiiU is looking backward at exactly the wrong time.
It’s fine to be upset about this, and even hate on the system for its “old” games. But the Wii U isn’t portable outside of 12 feet, the switch is something different. This is why it’s selling at a record clip. The switch is offering two things the competition doesn’t care about, big games on a portable, and couch style multiplayer with fun games.
Fun Fact- most the public actually didn’t even realize that the Wii U was a new console while they were selling it, customers believed it was another Wii accessory.

I understand feeling bad betting on a loosing horse, I bet on Sega during the Dreamcast era, and while I LOVED that friggin system, Sony killed it by simply adding a DVD drive to its PlayStation 2. I still wish Skies of Arcadia or Record of Lodoss war would one day hit switch.
