I am not so sure about this whole "the vita doing better helps the 3DS" thing. The Vita doing better hurts the 3DS, period. Why? well if a developer has to choose a system to make a game for they will choose the one with more sales potential. Actually it is the opposite. With downloaded you will eventually lose the ability to play it. I liked the demo. The graphics and art style were great. The attention to detail and lighting was pretty amazing to me. This is how 3D should be done, not a tacked on gimmick just to do it, but something like this that really adds to the art. You can tell it was made with 3D in mind. The atmospheric music/audio was great for what it was. Standing in front of the castle with winds rustling and howling just gave it allot of mood. This game has allot of mood which is rare for handhelds. I do think that there should have been breaks in the moody music for some classic tunes like remixes from CV 4, maybe like during boss fights. The classic tunes could have played through once when you are in a certain area then blend to the atmospheric sound rather than looping or something like that too.
I liked the combat, you had to play smart rather than just button mash and hope for the best. Gives it depth. It did get a little framey once in awhile but I would rather have that and the better graphics than cut down detail and always smooth.
I guess it comes down to what you are expecting. The only thing I DIDN'T like was the QTEs. QTEs must die in my opinion and are a blight on gaming. I hate them in every game that uses them. In the demo though they don't seem too overused (just to finish off a boss mostly) but to me zero QTE would be best. This just isn't the style of game for QTEs even if you like them. Over all I think it is great do far, will be getting the physical copy when released.
I didn't like the demo much. The 3D effect was not there, basically a 2D environment set back into the screen. That is not 3D. They could have had the layers they use on different 3D planes. They didn't and that is just plain lazy.
@Qwikman_N_Bass "And to all you people who are complaining about not being able to get dlc until later, it's not that bad; you can easily reach that point in the game in about 4 hours or less, since it unlocks after either chapter 4 or 5."
It is bad because it is a DUMB idea. There is no good reason for it. like I said I am in the middle of another game. I don't want to stop that, play this for 4 levels, then go back to my other game, beat that then pick this up at level 4 after not playing it for awhile. It ruins the story etc.
If I wait the free DLC offer expires and is no longer free, so I must rush to beat a certain amount of levels before the time limit. It is idiotic and serves no purpose other than to be annoying. The way it should work is that I put in the game, turn on spotpass, then a menu appears to download the extra content, that is it.
The Xbox 360 is discontinued in Japan from what I heard. Microsoft basically gave up and pulled out. The Japanese are very racist when it comes to foreign products. They simply won't buy them if there is a Japanese alternative.

Why can't they just allow you to get the map when the game cart is in the unit? It makes no sense and is irritating. It is a VERY stupid idea. Why the restrictions?
Well if you really just want the XL with the logo mainly, you could still buy the bundle and get the cartridge too as a backup.
I don't like digital either because Nintendo's eShop method of locking games to hardware instead of an account sucks.
And to those in Europe don't feel too bad as the US really doesn't have the game either. They didn't make enough copies and it is sold out in all stores and online stores pretty much. I couldn't find a physical copy anywhere.
I hope this game will be available in a physical version. I hate e-shop because you don't really own those games especially when your unit breaks. Is this e-shop only or will it be both?

Nothing is "free". It is a trick to get you hooked so then they can nickel and dime you to death. They prey on compulsive types and a little here and there dosn't seem much but it really adds up.
What you refer to "giving you something to play for free, and then expecting you to pay up if you enjoyed it" is also known as a "demo". I like the demo approach much better. I download demos all of the time on my 3DS and then buy the COMPLETE and physical copy if I like it. F2P is a hustle (that is why they like doing it so much).
I am in NA and never really knew much about FE. I wasn't really interested until I downloaded the demo. I figured what the hell it is free and gives me something new to look at for a few minutes.
So I played the demo and it seemed so well done. The 3D effects are slick and the story seems good. It kind of "pulls you in". So I went to get it but it was sold out in a few GameStops. It seems like it is pretty popular. I will get it when it comes back in.

Even the fanboiz have to admit the Wii U launch was a disaster. Forget the ports as I know everyone will blame "3rd party laziness" etc. The system was launched and it wasn't even finished. You had to do a day one hour and a half system update to use simple features. The Nintendo releases were lackluster. What did they have? A 2D SNES style mario scroller and a disk full of minigames? Really? that is it? No metroid, no Zelda, No Smash brothers, no 3D Mario. What the hell have they been doing for 6 years? They had all of that time to do stuff as the Wii was basically a GameCube with motion controls. The WiiU should have launched with great Nintendo titles that amazed with the graphics as well as design. It should have made the statement "welcome to next gen". Instead it said "welcome to me too" "now we have the power of the Xbox 360" too. That is great except the 360 is on it's way out and will be replaced by the 720 this year.
Then their demo kiosks in stores were (and still are) basically billboards saying "we have nothing". There is only ONE playable demo and the rest of the "demo games" are basically just still pictures. Yes, pictures not even video! I doubt that demo kiosk is going to convince anyone to buy a Wii U and most likely will have the opposite effect. It is like they are trying to fail and doing a good job of that.
Stuff like this is why I avoid the e-shop at all costs. I never download something if I can get a real physical copy. If it is download only I have to want it really bad to buy it.
The DRM is just too restrictive and a hassle. Will I still be able to transfer a game or re-download free in 5 years if my 3DS breaks? Probably not. It is at the whims of a 3rd party as to if i can get my games back. You just never know. I say don't download something if you want to keep it. Think of download titles as rentals.
@sgotsch "Has the perfect concept for me, cant name a thing I miss. Nobody need a better resolution than 1080p, Miiverse is just awesome, the Gamepad owns everything I have ever used as an controller. "
Well the Wii U then should at least have one game that does actually run in 1080P. So far it has none. They are all 720P or less just like the 360.
They released a weak system with unremarkable games. Now they are paying the price. They had all of that time to design a powerful system but instead decided to make something with a little more power than an Xbox 360. The 360 is on it's way out. Big mistake.
@drunkenmaster76 "i can see them both failing and nintendo cleaning up"
Now I know where you got your nick name, you must be drunk if you thing Nintendo is going to crush Sony and MS. The hype and buzz on the streets when these come out will be a roar. Expect shortages and long lines to get them. The graphics will amaze. Right now the Wii U is like a 6 year old Xbox 360 with no games. The only one saying "graphics don't matter" are people and companies with graphically inferior systems. The 3DS is an exception, while technically inferior to the Vita, the 3D does add a superior graphical aspect, 3D, that the Vita lacks.
@X-Factor "just wondering how the 3d effect is gonna look because this a 2.5D game"
I would imagine the 3D will be great. Ever see Cave Story? that is 2.5D and the depth on that is fantastic. In fact these 3D side scrollers tend to really show off the 3D effect very well because of the layers of depth and the parallax effect. I would have liked a scales down version of Trine for the 3DS, that would look great as well even though it would have to have some things simplified.
Nintendo needs to bring back some of their best franchises. I don't mean remakes (although those are fine for filler) but new titles. Bring out new 3DS Metroid, F-zero, Waverace, Zelda, a true 3D Mario (like Mario 64 style), maybe a 3D Wario land and THEN there will be something to be exited for. Even a Pikmin game would work well on a handheld.
That says it all. Rumors are just that. I have heard other rumors that the CPU was power PC based. Even if your rumors are true, 8 1.6GHz cores are still better than 3 1.2 GHz cores.
For everyone saying "I don't want remakes, I only want new games!"
These remakes aren't in place of a new game, they are in place of a dry spell. They are made by third parties (Grezzo etc.) usually while Nintendo concentrates on the new ones. Since they aren't instead of a new game and just in addition to, don't freak out. If you don't like a remake, don't buy it.
@crash3386
"Nintendo never learn if you want to aim consoles at hardcore gamers dont flood the market with COD 59 or Style Boutique and angry bird."
You do know there is not a single FPS aka "COD 59" on the 3DS right? Maybe if there was at least a FEW the system would actually sell. The West don't really go for JRPG turn based stuff and cutesy little quirky stuff like Animal Crossing which is aimed at children.
To me that list isn't that impressive. Other than Luigi I don't care about any of those.
I hate JRPGs and most in the west hate them too. That is why they don't sell. A bunch of spiky blue haired Leo DiCaprio types depicted in anime' just don't do it. Plus then there is the fact that those games are incredibly boring, you don't even really play the battles, you just program moves then watch the computer fight for you. Wake me when it is over. If you want to sell in the west you need some shooters and action RPGs (Zelda etc). How many FPS games are there on the 3DS? Zero? Well that is a problem. People aren't going to be camped out here to get "Brain age", sorry for the bad news. People here in the west don't care about brains, they want GUNS!
Since MM came out as the system was on it's way out It was played less than OOT. I know I was done with N64 for next gen and never played MM. I hope they do MM 3D it would be my first playthrough and many other the same too. Plus many weren't into games (too young) when the N64 was out and never played it.
Of course the 3DS is doing bad outside of Japan, they don't support it very well. There are very few retail game releases. Look at the titles out for the holiday season. There really weren't any big ones. The couple they had were delayed. If they are content to forgo big AAA retail titles in favor of e-shop iOS port shovelware then sales will continue to fall.
They have big game releases in Japan, it sells. They don't do much elsewere, it fails. Not rocket science. You need games to sell a game system!
Sony will make the PS4 as powerful as the Wii U? Huh? The Wii U has a 1.2 GHz CPU. The Wii U is not that powerful, probably only a little better than current gen. It has more RAM and a newer GPU than current gen but the CPU is a dog. At the end of the day is comes out a slight bit better than a wash with current gen. Ninyendo put the money into the tablet controler and skimped on the CPU/Graphics. The PS4 and 720 will be far more powerful than the Wii U.
@True_Hero I don't think it has to do with economics it has to do with the fact that the Wii U came out and it really didn't look any better than the Xbox 360 or PS3. Those consoles are on their way out. They are antiquated. Why would anyone buy something with graphics on par with a 6 year old console? The Nintendo name and tablet gimmick wasn't enough to do much sales wise. It is like an Xbox 360 with no games. The new consoles should have more advanced power and will do ok if they show a leap from current gen.
Who said that automatically a game becomes a grind and uninspired if it has more content? You are making assumptions that the game will suck, so less of a sucky game the better. If it sucks then shorter isn't better, not playing it at all would be. What if it is awesome, and the levels play and are designed well, wouldn't you want more of that? I would.
I played the demo, the game was awful. I would give it a 2. A 2 as in 2D, it doesn't even use the 3D. The only time I could tell the 3D switch was on was when I saw a little clearing/window then you saw depth. The sprites and platforms should have at least stood out from the background. They didn't, your character and the background were the same depth. Go play Super Mario 2 to see a "2D" style side scroller done right in 3D. You can tell this was a lazy shovelware release. It was also incredibly short. Then there was that awful paint/thinning thing. Pure rubbish.
So you are disappointed it lasts as long as it does? So you would rather get jipped? Do you open a pop (or beer) and get disappointed the can is almost full? Or complain if you buy one get one free, you would just rather have the one?
That doesn't make much sense, you don't need to play the whole thing in one sitting. That is why they have such things as save game and such. Wouldn't you rather get more content for your money? I know I would, and 16 hours is still pretty short unless you are comparing it to phone games.
I just don't care for menu based "battles" , it so non interactive. Select your choices, watch a little movie. I hate these types of games, I would rather have control over my characters. Meh, I wish there was a new Zelda comming.
I bought a Wii U and so far I am not impressed. There just isn't any WOW factor. Every game is basically a port and the same in graphics as my Xbox 360. Before release everyone was saying games would be in 1080P on the Wii-U, well so far ZERO are 1080P they are all 720P like the Xbox and PS3. The tri-core CPU on the Wii U is only 1.25 GHz as opposed to 3.2 GHz on the tri-core Xbox and multi core cell PS3 CPU. That is too slow for a system that released 6 years after the 360. You would think it at least would be the same speed.
Then there just aren't very compelling first party titles. I don't care for multiplayer party mini-games, I want something deeper. Where are all of the decent Nintendo games such as Zelda, Metroid, Smash brothers, Mario (a 3D version to really show off the 3D graphics, not that 2D SNES style scroller.) ? The tablet controller gimmick just doesn't put this over the top. It is a nice feature but isn't a substitute for Xbox 360/ PS3 trouncing graphics and AAA Nintenndo first party exclusives that it should have had at launch (not 3 years later). They had better have plenty of surprises at E3 this year (such as a new Zelda ready to go in a month) or this thing is a dud.
Too bad the e-shop is terrible when it comes to it's users. It is too restrictive with it's DRM. With Android you can use it on any device at any time as games are registered to an account not the hardware. With the 3DS games are locked to the unit and if it breaks it is a major hassle to get your stuff back. Moving games between units is another major hassle. Nintendo needs to fix that.
I had high hopes for the 3DS version. Then I played the demo, it was pure crap. The painting and thinning got old after the third time to the point of it being drudgery.
Then the graphics weren't even 3D as in different depths for the characters and the background. Only once in a while was there a clearing with some depth behind the flat game screen. They should have at least had 4 depths, a forground being closest, then a layer with the characters and platforms, then a couple of parallax background layers.
The whole thing felt like a cheap production that they put very little effort into. It was also extremely short from what I have heard. If they want to know why the game bombed they need to blame themselves for a crappy, dodgy, rushed out product.
I would actually consider buying this if it was a physical copy.
The e-shop for Wii U and 3DS is WAY too restrictive and I avoid it. I like to be able to move my games from system to system at will and not have to first go online, ask permission, transfer and disconnect. What a hassle. I also like to actually own the games I paid for and not be at the whims of a third party service. Also believe it or not everyone does not have an always internet connected console for various reasons including they just don't want to.
No. I would rather have the 3D. Actually when it comes to brightness I was actually thinking the screen on the Vita is fairly dim. The OLED screen on my Galaxy S3 is MUCH brighter than the Vita. It is like they limited the brightness on the Vita so as to not get the notorious OLED screen burn in. The 3DS screen will outlast the Vita by far. It will still look clean when the screens on the Vita all go yellow after a few years. I have a Vita, a kind of impulse buy, but I never use it. It is not that it isn't good it just seems like a shrunk down console. If I want a console experience I reach for the PS3 or 360 controller instead which plays on a MUCH bigger and brighter HDTV compared to Vita.
@SheldonRandoms I get physical because I can put it into any 3DS at any time without logging into the net to let Nintendo watch over my shoulder, sell used, trade, and if my 3DS breaks I just take out the cart and put into the new one (with digital you need to send in your broken 3DS to Nintendo, ridiculous!). Nintendo's DRM is just too restrictive.
Why? Just imagine you are a factory and all of your drawings and parts are made to Imperial inch measure. Now to go to metric you need to redesign and redraw all prints, order all new screws and material sizes etc. It is a matter of cost, not all companies can afford the costly switch.
"with poorly implemented 3D, and feels like it should be one of the 3DS eShop's costlier downloads, rather than a budget retail title"
I dissagree. I have it and the 3D is great with good depth. It may be a bit TOO deep but that is what the slider is for, just turn depth down a bit and tune to suit (I leave mine full powah though). I would never go all of the way down to 2D. The 3D makes the game look like it is made with real game pieces, it is a cool effect.
Also should only be e-shop? NO! With Nintendo's restrictive Big Brother DRM policies, NO WAY! If I want to show it to someone on their unit I can with ease with a physical copy. If my unit breaks I need to send it to Nintendo and wait weeks to get my e-shop stuff back? Are you kidding? No thanks, what a hassle. I like to really own what I pay for and not have to ask permission to move it, thank you. I can do that with my carts. I wish all decent titles were made available on BOTH e-shop and physical, not just e-shop.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U's Graphical Grunt is Laid Bare - Shall We Play Games Now?
Re: Konami Explains Why Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate Is A 3DS Exclusive
Re: Iwata: 10 Key 3DS Titles On The Way This Year
Those games don't exite.
Re: Latest Figures Show The Video Game Market Is Contracting
@Zombie_Barioth
"the rumored specs"
That says it all. Rumors are just that. I have heard other rumors that the CPU was power PC based. Even if your rumors are true, 8 1.6GHz cores are still better than 3 1.2 GHz cores.
Re: Nintendo Direct: Animal Crossing Developers Reply To Fan Feedback
What is the big deal with this game? Why is everyone freaking out? It looks like a cute game for little kids but that is it.
Re: Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda: Remakes of the Past
For everyone saying "I don't want remakes, I only want new games!"
These remakes aren't in place of a new game, they are in place of a dry spell. They are made by third parties (Grezzo etc.) usually while Nintendo concentrates on the new ones. Since they aren't instead of a new game and just in addition to, don't freak out. If you don't like a remake, don't buy it.
Re: Iwata: 10 Key 3DS Titles On The Way This Year
@crash3386
Re: Iwata: 10 Key 3DS Titles On The Way This Year
To me that list isn't that impressive.
Re: Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda: Remakes of the Past
Since MM came out as the system was on it's way out It was played less than OOT. I know I was done with N64 for next gen and never played MM. I hope they do MM 3D it would be my first playthrough and many other the same too. Plus many weren't into games (too young) when the N64 was out and never played it.
Re: Latest Figures Show The Video Game Market Is Contracting
Of course the 3DS is doing bad outside of Japan, they don't support it very well. There are very few retail game releases. Look at the titles out for the holiday season. There really weren't any big ones. The couple they had were delayed. If they are content to forgo big AAA retail titles in favor of e-shop iOS port shovelware then sales will continue to fall.
They have big game releases in Japan, it sells. They don't do much elsewere, it fails. Not rocket science. You need games to sell a game system!
Re: Latest Figures Show The Video Game Market Is Contracting
@SilentHunter382
Re: Latest Figures Show The Video Game Market Is Contracting
@True_Hero
I don't think it has to do with economics it has to do with the fact that the Wii U came out and it really didn't look any better than the Xbox 360 or PS3.
Re: Castlevania: Mirror of Fate Will Take About 16 Hours To Suck You Dry
@rayword45
I would.
Re: Review: Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion (3DS)
@Degwyn
Re: Castlevania: Mirror of Fate Will Take About 16 Hours To Suck You Dry
@CanisWolfred
Re: Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan Demo On The Way
@oninowon
I just don't care for menu based "battles" , it so non interactive. Select your choices, watch a little movie. I hate these types of games, I would rather have control over my characters. Meh, I wish there was a new Zelda comming.
Re: Feature: What You Told Us About Wii U
Re: Gunman Clive Developer: 3DS eShop Is "Healthier" Than iOS
Too bad the e-shop is terrible when it comes to it's users. It is too restrictive with it's DRM. With Android you can use it on any device at any time as games are registered to an account not the hardware. With the 3DS games are locked to the unit and if it breaks it is a major hassle to get your stuff back. Moving games between units is another major hassle. Nintendo needs to fix that.
Re: Epic Mickey Future In Doubt After Sequel Falls Short In Sales
Re: Castlevania: Mirror of Fate Will Take About 16 Hours To Suck You Dry
@waterlava
Not really. 16 hours is actually pretty short. It is no Skyrim that is for sure.
I consider 25-30 hours to be a decent length.
Re: Local Multiplayer Sneaks Up On Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
I don't really care about multiplayer. I would rather the resources were put into making a bigger game with more levels and such.
Re: Frozenbyte - Boxed Retail Release Of Trine 2: Director's Cut Is "A Possibility"
Re: Capcom Comments On Monster Hunter 4 Vita Rumours
@Blaze
Re: Fire Emblem: Awakening Download Takes Up Almost 8,600 Blocks
@SheldonRandoms
I get physical because I can put it into any 3DS at any time without logging into the net to let Nintendo watch over my shoulder, sell used, trade, and if my 3DS breaks I just take out the cart and put into the new one (with digital you need to send in your broken 3DS to Nintendo, ridiculous!). Nintendo's DRM is just too restrictive.
Re: Fire Emblem: Awakening Download Takes Up Almost 8,600 Blocks
@Bass_X0
The US does use metric. Just not for everything.
Why? Just imagine you are a factory and all of your drawings and parts are made to Imperial inch measure. Now to go to metric you need to redesign and redraw all prints, order all new screws and material sizes etc. It is a matter of cost, not all companies can afford the costly switch.
Re: Review: Boulder Dash-XL 3D (3DS)
