You shouldn't have to keep yourself up to date through the internet (and come across spoilers) so that you can play a game that you've already paid a lot for.
I don't play Mario for the story that's for sure. I like a simple world map like in SMB3, or a liner level select with nice backgrounds like in Yoshi's Island. Level select in this one seems a bit too simple for me, but it's not a big deal.
Regarding hub worlds, I personally would like to see a SMB3/World style map (perhaps more impressive graphically, though not extravagant for the sake of it) where you wouldn't actually know whether the level was 2D, 3D, 2.5D, or whatever until you entered the level.
Hmm, you start as Super Mario, and then get smaller. Seems odd to me that they would do it that way after making such a big break from health meters of other 3D Mario games.
What is this 'Nothing like a real Mario game' nonsense?
Were Mario games defined by 1991? After that there was a cut off? Well nobody told the development teams of Super Mario Kart, an audacious and hugely successful spin off. Brilliant Super Mario RPG developed by Square was 'Nothing like a real Mario game'. Super Mario 64 is no good, because with its huge 3D worlds, it's 'nothing like a real Mario game'. Heck, I was disappointed with Super Mario Bros. 3 when it came out, because with the addition of suits and grotesque looking Koopa Kids, it was 'nothing like a real Mario game.'
This is starting to look pathetic from Nintendo. No time? It's a remake for goodness sake. Were they too busy making great games available at launch ? Obviously not. Costs? If Nintendo want to fall behind the competition (in making an alleged costs based calculation) in regards to online play, it's up to them; and up to consumers to make a choice, but this explanation is lame.
I think this add on just looks bad against the backdrop of the mistakes at launch, if the console had't had any problems I don't think this add on would have generated as much negative comment.
Original price: Smacks of complacency Price of games: Still an issue 3rd party support: Absent 1st party support: Currently thin Region lock: Idiotic for a portable console Launch: Clearly rushed 3D: Not a priority for most people Price drop: Annoyed some loyalists Price drop remedy: Annoyed some who want to at least be able to buy games that others have got for free Iwata apology letter: Desperate
The whole thing has not been managed well.
Having said that, look at the situation after Mario.
Hmm, I can see why such a prospect would have been daunting, but surely no more so than following Super Mario World and A Link to the Past into the 3D world? I think we take for granted now that Ocarina and Mario 64 are 2 of the greatest games ever; it wasn't guaranteed to work.
And as someone else said, Jet Force Gemini was surely the example for them to follow.
Intention is not the same as outcome. Nintendo may be wanting to please 'loyalists', and they may succeed in that, but a byproduct is that the GBA policy has annoyed me. I can't speak for anyone else, but I would have thought it was Nintendo fans not yet with a 3DS like myself that they're aiming for.
I thought that Nintendo had categorically stated that GBA would not be purchasable, it seems I was mistaken. Regardless I don't intend to buy a 3DS unless Nintendo states that they will be made available.
Such a policy is basically creating a 2 tier customer class, where those who spent more before a certain time get exclusives. Whether this is Nintendo's actual intention is of little importance. If there is any evidence that others feel like me (admittedly there seems to be little indication that there is) then it might be a bad business move on their part.
I'm not going to petition parliament or anything, but I do choose to vote in the marketplace.

Exactly.
Well, not exactly, MK64 and MKSC code would be fine with me too, just not MKDD or MKWii

Shame they didn't take the same stance towards Wind Waker.
Re: 3DS Heading for Bigger First Year Sales Than DS
Good to hear, but if you refrained from buying a 3DS because the right colour wasn't available, then you're an idiot.
As Martin Luther King said, you should judge a console by the content of it's games, not by the their colour.
Re: Feature: The Best Games on GameCube and Wii
Why have 2 Resident Evil games on the GameCube list, but not both Galaxy games on the Wii list?
Re: Review: Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour (GameCube)
I really liked this game. Some of the courses gave you more of a feel for Mushroom Kingdom than say Mario Tennis.

I loved the Dreamcast version and this port. One of my all time favourite games.

Hmm, I hope the mystery box thing isn't essential to complete the game.

Alluring. The gloves look nice as well.
Re: FAQ: Your Super Mario 3D Land Questions

I could live with an N64 level of 'failure', and so could Nintendo I think. On a Virtual Boy scale though, perhaps not.

Re: Iwata Writes Open Letter to 3DS Owners to Say Sorry

Indeed. I'm mindful of how 'limited' Super Mario Allstars was on the Wii.
