5. Asphalt 9 Legends: it’s been out a while, but Gameloft has been supporting and updating for quite some time. Just got a new update and city this month. Yes it’s behind the mobile apps in terms of updates but the Switch community is robust and online is always bustling. Daily play is easy and it’s worth it as a free to play to earn coins, tokens and free packs and items.
4. Easy Come, Easy Golf - basically what Mario Golf for Switch shoulda been and not the gimmicky mess that is Super Rush. If you’ve played Easy Golf, it’s easy to see how this would have fit so well with Mario and all the characters from the Mushroom Kingdom. From the game play to the team aspect to the map. Every time I play, I wish it was Mario Golf.
3. Retro Bowl & Retro Goal - both phenomenal entries from the Retro team. Easy to pick up and play, very hard to put down. “Just one more” rules the day! If you love football (yes both kinds) then you will love these 8-bit inspired games.
2. Switch Sports - I’ve had every entry of the Wii Sports family (Original, Resort, Club and now Switch) so I was buying this game either way. I bought near launch and played bowling quite a bit and some tennis. But things really ramped up when golf was added in late November. It’s finally what motion golf on a Nintendo machine should be. We all loved the Wiimote but it was always a bit wonky even after plus was added. The joy-cons technology nails it for golf. Plus the online Survival golf is awesome. In fact, the online community for most of the games always feels solid and the rank up system (E to A) is a cool way to level up.
1. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope - I played the first one in Kingdom Battle as well as all the Donkey Kong DLC and what a romp! So much fun and so, so wild! I was thrilled to come back for more. Admittedly, I just got this game for Christmas but I’ve been playing non-stop over holiday break. So far it’s AMAZMO and I listed it here at #1 cuz I ain’t putting it down anytime soon!
Honorable Mention: Fitness Boxing 2 - Damn. Great workouts. I had the Gold’s Gym boxing for the Wii (which used 2 separate Wiimotes) and I always liked that game and workout. I figured I would give this one a go. After demoing both FB1 and FB2, I went with the latter. Being 50, it’s a good and easy way for me to get in some workouts and movement. I always liked how Nintendo has cared about health and has had fitness games. I have Fitness Adventure as well so these games compliment each other nicely. I had Wii Fit, Wii Fit+, Wii Fit U as well NFL Training Camp for the Wii, so I’ve utilized the fitness aspect of Nintendo systems for a while. It’s a decent game for the price of a monthly gym fee.
Thx for reading. Happy Holidays to all and here’s to a healthy 2023!!
Super Rush still needs to add tournaments like in World Tour. I loved playing in the weekly tourneys posted by Nintendo but also the tourneys posted by other players. Tourneys really need to be added.
