@Clyde_Radcliffe I did, but I thought the new circuits were universally rubbish. From what I can remember they all seemed to be wider, straighter and a whole lot less exciting that the originals. So I was left feeling delighted about having the original on a handheld, but disappointed that the new tracks weren't the sequel I'd been dreaming of.
Oh wow, I couldn't disagree more. Mario Circuit 3 is the one I'm most excited about (though i wish it was 4!). Twisty, tight turns and fewer flashy gimmicks means more fun in my book. Tbh I should probably just stick to the SNES original and accept that post '92/'93 Mario Karting is always gonna be a bit of a disappointment. Enjoyable vid still!
@betterman the time trials are amazing too. Even more than the racing IMO actually - and that's speaking as someone who has zero interest in things like speed runs. I must have spent more time trying to perfect Bowser Castle 3 than I have playing all the other MKs combined.
I wish I didn't, but I still think the original is the best. Yeah it's only two player, crap frame rate etc. but I still think it's got the most exciting racing, by quite a distance. Those dinky little courses are just so well designed, and the handling allows such precision. I'm mostly talking single player here, so maybe I could be persuaded I'm wrong when it comes to multiplayer. But if I'm on my own, the original is still the one I'll always go back to. And I'm pretty certain that's not just the fault of nostalgia.
As a keen Spectrum/SNES/N64 guy who didn't really play games between 2001 and the tail end of 2020, I thought this was brilliant. My only console is a Switch so to have what sound like a pair of classics in Persona 5 and Nier: Automata soon to be available is brilliant.
Gotta say I like this news. I fancy dipping my toes into Xenoblade Chronicles 3 later this year having never played the series, and by the sounds of things that'll take up A LOT of time. Given BOTW is my favourite game ever, and my lack of willpower, a 2022 release would almost certainly have meant ditching XC3 part way through. So yeah, works for me.
Finished this last night after 16 hours. Really, really enjoyed it. I found it challenging throughout, but with the instant respawns and generally pretty regular checkpoints it never felt like I got too bogged down, even if I did have to replay sections dozens of times. There's also often a way to kinda cheat through some of the trickiest sections by ploughing through obstacles during the brief period of invincibility after losing a life. I did that a fair bit, but because of the satisfying level of challenge throughout, I didn't feel like I was cheating - just finding a clever way through a hard part. Also on difficulty, normally I HATE boss fights, they just make me stressed. Although I died loads on the bosses in Horace, I actually quite enjoyed them. Because you don't lose all your progress when you die, its never too long before you make some headway, so even when challenging I didn't get stuck. So yeah, it can be a tough game, but it also feels like it helps you through the tough bits so it wasn't frustrating. Just really really satisfying. Funny too.

@Anachronism wow, what an unnecessarily unpleasant comment.
