We're still coming to terms with the fact Nintendo has delayed Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 until Spring 2023, so what now?
If you're not entirely coping with the news, there's no need to worry - as Alex, Felix and Kate are here to talk you through the whole thing. Join them in the video above as they discuss everything related to the latest Nintendo Switch delay.
You can also get their thoughts on the new footage shown - with conversation topics ranging from Link's new hairstyle to his sword looking like a Curly Wurly (a chocolate bar). Bottom line - we're a tad upset about the delay, but if Nintendo feels it needs more development time, it's absolutely the right thing to do.

What a wonderful Zelda anniversary. Well done Nintendo
Kate in a video. Festivus miracle.
@DiamondJim Huh? It's not a special year this year. The last anniversary ending in a 5 or 0 was last year. 35 years.
Anyhow, I think The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD will probably cover the Zelda gap for this year.
Elden ring spooked the hell out of them. I’m not surprised and I don’t blame them
Cheers Nintendo son’s crying. Nice one
@Strictlystyles Eh, I doubt that. It's moreso just a thing Zelda games end up with. They always need more dev time than accounted.
@Strictlystyles nothing to do with game of the year. Everything to do with a pro switch or switch two in 2023.
People talking about Switch Pros and Switch two when we're still in the middle of a Pandemic which has caused a chip shortage.
As for this I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Developers have disappointed me many times over the years so what difference does it make now? none. By the time this comes out I'm probably not going to care about it as much because I'll likely be playing better games on other Platforms. That's what happens when a game takes too long, people stop caring. Ofc there are those that are ok with this but many people aren't and I'm one of them.
I'd rather they release it this year, but if it's not ready the delay's fine with me.
It's also funny that people are saying the same things they did when BotW was delayed out of 2016. I doubt this means BotW 2 is going to be on a new console, though. Of course, I could be wrong!
I am pretty sure people saw this coming. The first botw got delayed as well. I am not surprised to see it get delayed to 2023 now.
But hey at least we got other stuff this year. Like XC3, Pokemon to name some
I'm I the only one that doesn't really mind? I mean look at elden ring, took a sec to come out but it is, and people love it!
If waiting means a better game, then please make we wait more.
@IronMan30 well I dunno. They could barely get botw to play properly in 2017 and I’m supposed to believe they have a new epic game that is taking six years to make but will run smoothly on the same tech the first game struggled on? I too could be wrong. But if there isn’t new hardware botw 2 is going to look real dated beside whatever the new god of war is or whatever.
Just as Count Dooku predicted.
Warning for video above: KateGray makes yet another reference that required my personal recourse to Urban Dictionary.
... maybe I'm sheltered or something.
I don't mind the wait, at least we had enough Zelda to play until then. The two NES ones, the Super NES one, and the two N64 ones are all available on NSO, all the Oracle games are available via 3DS Virtual Console, and we also got the Link's Awakening remake, Age of Calamity and its expansion, the original Breath of the Wild, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, Cadence of Hyrule, and the Skyward Sword HD remake to play through until then so I'm okay with the delay. Even better if we got Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD too but oh well that's just too many Zelda too much. If all else failed the hundreds of Zelda clones out there would also do the trick too, Oceanhorn, Ocean's Heart, Blossom Tale, Ittle Dew, etc.
It sucks as a Zelda fan to know the game has been delayed for a year, I'm not interested in the recent Zelda's due to reasons but the fact that fans have to wait that long is a pain, I feel for them!
I guessed a delay to March 2023 would happen, and a bit sad to be (maybe) correct.
But then I can’t keep up with Switch game releases this year anyway, so I don’t mind the delay. Take your time and wow us next year!
@sixrings I highly doubt a switch 2 in 2023. Most signs point to at least 2024
@Strictlystyles what signs? That Mario kart has dlc until end of 2023? What if there plan is new system in spring with Zelda. And it’s backward compatible so that dlc and Mario kart still works for that. And Mario in the fall. Give splatoon 3 a up res patch and that’s the 2017 line up all over again.
@sixrings whatever signs business analyst have been using. Multiple articles from different business analysts say it’s more than likely a new switch comes 2024 and not before.some of those articles are even on this website you can read 🙃
Pro tip... Don't leave your sword in your trouser pocket and then put it in the tumble dryer.
Breath of the Laundry.
They want to make it the absolute best game of the genre. The competition is tough now with the Elden Ring and all, so if it has to take another year, then so be it.
@Cia why can zelda just be a zelda game for better or worse? Elden Ring isn't the end all be all game.
I think it is a good thing
I really want to play it of course, BOTW is probably one of the best games ever made, but exactly because of that I am not in a rush to play it, when a game is that anticipated, it needs to be really good, and if they need a little longer to avoid crunch and polish it, that’s fine with me
We have enough new stuff to play this year even without it, so Nintendo, do your best with this game, as a gamer and a share holder, I believe this is the right call
Could be strategic to keep the Switch even more relevant for even longer as people await another AAA Nintendo game 🤷
Hmmm.. looks like we might have a switch 2 release date.. Kinda feel that they will do with the same route when the switch launched. Releasing the game to the next gen and current nintendo console. Noticed a bit of graphics improvement from the video and thinking some of the graphics are so fluid while BOTW is having issued running on the switch.
Why does Felix always sound like he has a cold?
Gotta say I like this news. I fancy dipping my toes into Xenoblade Chronicles 3 later this year having never played the series, and by the sounds of things that'll take up A LOT of time. Given BOTW is my favourite game ever, and my lack of willpower, a 2022 release would almost certainly have meant ditching XC3 part way through. So yeah, works for me.
@CANOEberry if you mean a curly wurly then urban dictionary is very much the wrong place to look, it's a chocolate bar 😆
@Strictlystyles Why would that have anything to do with Elden Ring? There is zero connection. You don't seriously think that do you?
How come Zion is never on these anymore?
Zelda always has a delay of some form. I think when they announce things too early is a problem player wise. Look at Prime 4, that is a literal running joke and the amount of wait will not recover that one as Metroid is usually not a extreme high seller, Dread excluded.
The very early announcement was just for a stockholder speculation. If stocks did drop due to the delay, then that can make sense as they meant that for a possible Christmas hitter.
I accept delays as I bore of day one updates and super glitchy games that have to be patched constantly due to being rushed.
I expected this, but i can handle it.
They're delaying it until the Switch Pro is out.
We have to remember those timeline could mean Winter 2022 is consider Spring 2023. This is business language they don't follow what people think they think. And if leaks from NVN was they started or started before 2019.
Looking forward to “15 things you STILL didn’t know about Skyward Breath” in 2029
@N8tiveT3ch
They're not gonna make Zelda another Elden Ring. It will be Zelda all the way through. They just want to make it the best open world game. It's about pride and the status the series is known about. A Link to the Past was for many the best game ever. OOT was considered the best game of all time for the longest time (some people still think it's true since it's the top game on metacritic and all).
BotW was considered the best open world game and many reviewers said it was the goat. Again about Metacritic, BotW has more perfect reviews than any other game and its metascore of 97 reflects this.
So, they want to make sure their crown jewel series stays on top of the competition. And I, for one, am a believer. If it takes 6 years of development to get there, then so be it.
@MadmanMike
The only reason Prime 4 takes eternity is the fact they had to discard the first build, since it was not good enough, and start developing from the scratch with Retro Studios.
