My favorite thing about review scores? Absolutely none of them mean anything! Scores are just numbers of someone else’s opinion. A review I want to read tells me about a game, and I can cross check it with my personal tastes to see if it sounds like I may be into it.
And even then, there are always exceptions to my interests and I’ve been humbled by enjoying things I thought I wouldn’t, so…
I’ll just try it sometime to see how I feel, and that’s that!
Playing the absolute hell out of this. Had two Knight League Prix wins, finally got 1st with each car, and have about 25 1st places under my belt so far. I simply cannot stop playing this game. <3
I love F-Zero, it’s among my favorite franchises from Nintendo, and I got this game the day I got my SNES as a kid.
And look, I know it’s not a new one, but it’s also not not a new one? So when I get something that pays clear respects to something I love, I can’t help but feel an excitement and gratitude for this, because it gives me a twist on a game I adore that was, also, previously only single player (SNES entry, I mean).
But the thing about games is I don’t need them. Any of them. I just love them. So when more are announced, whether they’re for me or not, I get excited. This is for me. This game is very for me.
And for games that aren’t, I still get excited, because when I see something that I say “oh man, my friend _______ would love this,” I get amped because I love my friends, other gamers, and circle of gaming far outside of myself.
I dunno, I just don’t think I have the energy to be disappointed by things that legitimately wouldn’t affect my life negatively if, say, I didn’t know about them, and I’ve been in the racket of local and corporate retail, as well as working for big scale developers for over 25 years.
I dunno. I just love it all.
And F-Zero 99 is probably the most for-me announcement that they could make.
I hope you all get the blessing of games, revivals, sequels, or whatever it is you may not even know you want. 💚
Minority input here, apparently, but I absolutely love Twin Snakes and would take it in a heartbeat. I mean, I imported and played the original MGS on PSX and loved it, played the heck out of the US release and ate it up, and, well, Twin Snakes is my favorite way to go. Love the Kitamura cutscenes and the gameplay updates, so…to each their own!
Though I don’t expect it, and would still be thrilled to get any of these on Switch at all, especially 3.
@Bablommebite luckily it just looks more dire than it is, but he was just born with microphthalmia in one eye and can function and see just fine! He’s a well behaved little pirate who has been actually going nuts watching me play these FF games. Loves to attack the TV when characters are battling enemies.
@chefgon Not sure what to say, but I played through the entirety of FFIV without an issue. I certainly don’t want to speak on behalf of anyone struggling to read it, but am just stating that it didn’t give me any struggles.
Glad that steam versions are more easily moddable, and that the pixel font is, at the very least, a better option on console.
Definitely cool to have, but I also have to admit, the original didn’t bother me. When I first loaded it up to play, I remember the initial feeling of that style clash, but after playing for literally minutes, I stopped caring because it was a legible font in a video game. Practicality was more than enough to enforce function over form, but it is cool that they provided the new font as an option.
Either font style, I’m just happy to have these on the system as I currently go for a straight 1-12 playthrough.
Stoked. Played a bit on the PC pixel remasters, but switch portability is truly what I crave. For what it’s worth, the remastered font really wasn’t nearly as bad as it was made out to be (once I started playing, I think I forgot about it in mere minutes), but I’m happy they have an option that fits the aesthetic a bit better.
Either way, these are truly just great games and to be honest, a price that mirrors the value of their quality, which still hold up. Accessibility options sound great for those of us who have paid dues playing many times before (or folks who simple don’t want the hassle - more power to you!), and, as always, there are tons of ways to give one’s self a fun challenge with self imposed rules.
No matter what, I’m stoked to have nearly every mainline FF game accessible on the switch, and Theatrhythm truly whet my desire to play these games again.
@MitchaK suppose you are in a dungeon and on the verge of death and have no escape utility but need to get to a town - there you have it. Same reason you can equip some items to do the same thing later in some games.
A friend of mine here in Albuquerque has been doing the same thing for a while! However, in order to get a tattoo of an evolution, the previous one has to be tattooed on someone first to ‘unlock’ it. Thinking about a Charizard to compliment my Mewtwo, but someone has to get a Charmeleon first. 😬
Oh man. So, I had just graduated college and had gotten a job at EB games, but still stayed in close contact with a local game store I worked at through high school. Since I was big on importing at the time (and was studying Japanese), I remember importing my black GBA SP when they came out, and was fortunate enough to have gotten mine during the week of launch in February. I kept that thing with me everywhere, and in time, would go on to collect a smattering of systems, including the Japanese Famicom one (not the super limited, but the regular one) that I got signed by Miyamoto at E3 in 2005.

Here’s the thing. I have to love this game.

Re: Pikmin 4 Will Let You Erase Your Mistakes With A Handy New Rewind Mechanic
All about it. I love inclusive features like this, especially for newcomers.
And I know there is a lot of clamor in the comments for the ability to ‘turn it off’, but isn’t that just having the discipline to not use it? 🙃

Still adore that machine to death.
