i want to build something like this with its mechanical keyboard, a couple USB ports and a handle to move around the house – but the party trick would be a slot to insert something like a 7- or 8-inch tablet. a squarer screen would make it a little easier for browsing & watching videos.
i really like the DevTerm, but I'm a better graphic designer than a programmer so that strip of a display is a bit too restrictive for me.
reminds me of when i got a copy of Shadow of the Colossus for PS2 from Best Buy, and it had just made the PlayStation Greatest Hits line. it was $20 but i actually snagged a copy with the original box art.
@Medic_Alert if i may make a suggestion for what i did playing Earthbound: i used an emulator on my Android phone. these games have simple controls, so even a gamepad purist like myself didn't mind the virtual touchpad.
with a Bluetooth gamepad though I mapped Save, Load and Fast-Forward to the buttons. game was great. but when it got "charming" i'd mash the Load button, and hold Fast Forward while grinding through repetitive battles. say what you want but i haven't got time for Game Over screens when old games try to get cute.
this is what you end up with when you let spec-obsessed “gamers” design a console. i play Steam games, hope this succeeds, but it may very well go down like a lead zeppelin, like they say. burdened by its heft
i am absolutely basking in the misery of everyone who blindly believed all the articles on this site, got whipped into a frenzy, went into full “Gamer Mode” complete with unrealistic expectations and even a totally fake name (Switch Pro)
when it comes to consumer products let this be a lesson.
@Heavyarms55 a broken clock is right twice a day, and so is, occasionally, a video game rag that will say just about any outlandish thing day after day to get views.
they've moved onto speaking like everything said about the Switch's successor, even down to its name, as factual. fans who buy into this crap are going to see themselves disappointed, it's easy to forget that Nintendo is going to behave the way they always have, which is conservatively. “gamers” want 16GB of RAM and a 10" screen? go buy a laptop, they're available right now.
@Razer i think people got tired of putting escape quotes around “Switch Pro”. now it just Exists. and it does 240fps 8k in handheld mode, water cooling, custom RAM timings, AI, plus a slew of other unrealistic things.
“Gamers” are the worst demographic to listen to online, hands down.
what I'd like to know is how the hell did all these sites latch onto the 'Switch Pro' name without the slightest bit of solid evidence? it's as though you just decided That's What It's Called™ and ran with it for the past 2 years. I've never seen a rumor get ran with such certainty.
@C-Threep i don't condone lying to or deceiving children for important things, but maybe start over and have you be the island representative, so at least the game can go in some direction? or create a character that you both wouldn't mind playing as.
