Re: Review: Fire Emblem Engage - Relationships Get Sidelined By A Thrilling Combat-First Focus

@sanderev I mean general Japanese SRPGs (there are many franchises, like SRT, Sakura Taisen, Langrisser, Shining Force, Utawarerumono and MANY, MANY other). All of them have romance and long ass dialogue. This is how these games are and many people loves them for what they are. Losing someone that you made an emotional bond with on the battlefield is way more tragic. One of the reasons why I love Japanese games so much is because of how they are handling the characterization. Because most Japanese games are character driven instead story driven. This along with brilliant Japanese voices actors is making these games not just "games" but experiences.

@JohnnyMind if it was translated from Japanese, then most likely it won't be. I heard from my friends in Germany that their translations of Nintendo games were always way more faithful than English. Unfortunately, I don't know German. I'm learning Japanese, so I'll be able to spot major problems, but my Japanese knowledge is still lacking to go full Japanese. But I'll use original voices, as always in any foreign media.

@JohnnyMind "Except the "relationship antics" seem to mostly still be in Engage?"
People that are playing the leak are saying that the dialogue between characters and interactivity between them are cut to almost zero. Forget about deep characterization from 3H. Some people said that there way less interaction between characters then it was in older FE games. Also, the dialogue seems to be way more censored than 3H was. Like, whole romance subplots of many characters are switched to platonic ones in ***** eng translation.
That's a big letdown for me, because for me, deep characterization and bonding with characters are one of the reasons why I love Japanese games so much.

"So, if you're coming to Fire Emblem Engage looking for the deep relationship antics that you so enjoyed in Three Houses, well, that stuff just ain't really here"

Okay. So it's actually a big downgrade to super fresh take on 3h. That's the most disappointing thing that I've read about this game. I was so hyped, now my expectation just low.
What's next? Removing romance options?
Looks I'm the minority here. Ehh.

I hope that they will at least put original Japanese voices on the actual cartridge, not as ***** DLC.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Appears To Feature English & Japanese Lip-Syncs

@Exmotable this should be a standard for years already. If I chose original voices, it's only natural that I want text to be as much authentic as it's only possible. I always cringe when I need to read dubtitles, especially if there's no option to set Japanese language to text, which is still pretty common unfortunately.

This game is absolutely 10/10. Just not the remake. Especially western release.
The main reason why I will always recommend original version is the translation. Fan translated versions are generally far superior (especially this particular game). Official translations are usually (in most cases to be precise) a complete garbage. Omitting things like honorifics, many cultural aspects or even reversing name order (seriously I will never understand why games that are not getting the butchering called dubbing are still reversing name order it’s ridiculous and really jarring when you’re reading it) is just pathetic, especially if we are talking about super niche market like visual novels which has pretty obvious audience.
Not mentioning that Spike Chunsoft has long history of censorship and terrible translation choices.
Of course, sex scenes are important as well in this game. They are adding more depth to the story and makes it way more memorable.
The artstyle is arguable to be honest. I love original character design, but (thanks to anime adaptation) I started to like new design too. Mio and Mitsuki especially.
And the soundtrack. Original soundtrack of Umemoto Ryuu has a soul that cannot be replicated.

Spike Shitsoft even changed Sayless name.

Re: Review: Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth - The Last Picture Show

Araragi

@Timsworld2 I think that ignorant people like should just change thier attitude and start opening thier minds.
Demanding alternation and dubbing of foreign things, especially so popculture culture focused like Persona games is really dumb to be honest. I hope that dubbing will be a thing of the past in the future.
I can't imaging watching American media dubbed in other language exactly like I can't imagine consuming Japanese media dubbed in other languages. Dubs are targeted for children.

@JR150 "Just one or two unimportant dialogue bits during side quests"
Believe me, I was playing Japanese version, my friend was playing western version with original voices. I was able to compare it. They changed everything. Starting from whole world basics, character personalities, lore. All Christian references were removed (it's like foundation of most Xeno games), everything about Japanese culture, pop culture and beliefs was removed.
And to be honest these 2 things made this game really special for me.
All character names were altered (and I'm not buying that t about "they kept the meaning" - all blade names are common Japanese names for PEOPLE - if they wanted to deliver it's meaning - which wasn't really important - they could always write it in the character profile in game menu). Almost all land names were completely altered - they weren't written in Japanese in the first place anyway.
Most dialogue lines were completely altered to the point where they didn't even kept the general idea of original.
Please don't tell me that nothing major was changed, because this game is like completely different product in the west.

Re: Nintendo Has No Plans To Censor Video Games Like Sony

Now stop censoring your own games dear Nintendo. Either visually or dialogue. It would be nice if you started to translate instead doing complete rewrites too. Or at least include dual script, one for dub brainlets and one for people with properly functioning brains.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X Voice Actress Is In Favour Of Lin's Western Costume Change

Araragi

@Peterjr1 dude. This game have abysmal made up translation with tons of unfunny memes in places where there was just normal dialogue in original script. Additionally there's no original voices included which is yet alone a reason for not buying the game. Offering only a dub with no option to switch to original voices is extremely dumb decision. Dubs should be generally a thing of the past already.
On the top of that they also censored a lot of this gnin this game. Not only costumes but dialogue as well.

Re: Fans Create Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Patch Which Uncensors Western Censorship

Araragi

@TTGlider And who will be buying this game if not people who loves Japanese games and popcultue? Dude what the f*ck is wrong with your logic?
Censorship is always wrong and there's not place for this sh*t in this world. Who cares what America thinks. Stop acting like America would be the only country in this world. This is moronic. Idiots who are offended by fiction shouldn't be even think avlbout consuming it. Close minded idiots shouldn't be allowed to consume foreign media.
