@SteveDaSteve True, and I have never really played Crash Bandicoot, but I recognise him as a gaming icon and exactly the sort of character that belongs in Smash (as with Simon Belmont). I would take such characters over characters from my favourite games (I’d love a Grim Fandango character but it’s not realistic!)
@Zach777 Best list so far, you’ve named actual legends. How people can want some of the random fanboy characters over gaming icons like Bomberman, Crash, Rayman I’ll never know.
@Petriebird Beat me to it. The game itself is not nearly as expensive as first party games (probably costs a tenner on sale) and you have access to everything except cosmetic items.
The only micro transactions are essentially ‘skins’, many of which you can eventually unlock anyway. It really doesn’t bother me that much, I might buy the odd one in future, but I don’t feel compelled to.
Pink Gold Peach is one of the laziest characters ever. Who wants to play as all these clone characters? I’d let them off if they were alternative skins, but to pass them off as new characters is a bit much. If I’m playing as Mario I don’t want to be racing against Metal Mario and Baby Mario.
Would people honestly rather play as Palette Swap Peach than E. Gadd for instance?
@Tharsman Great choices, I think I would only add Bomberman, Isaac, Shovel Knight. As much as I’d like to see somebody like Geno, I feel the only underrepresented franchise is Sonic.
@SakuraHaruka I am confused as to why these things surprise you, are you suggesting you can’t fathom that people would have legitimate reasons for thinking those things?
@Tempestryke I am aware of where they all come from, apologies if my reply was confusing.
But yeah, there are loads of better candidates than peachette, pink gold peach, babies etc. I wouldn’t mind the babies if they were costume changes for their characters, so we don’t have characters racing against baby versions of themselves.
@Tempestryke I didn’t play Super Mario RPG but I’d be happy with any of the ones you suggested because at least they aren’t clone characters. The Mario & Luigi games had lots of good characters. E Gadd and Toadsworth would be great also.
Hundreds of babies, Peachette, Bowsette, Mario as every metal under the sun, all non-characters. Why choose these when the Mario franchise has so many good characters already? Look at the latest Mario Tennis game for examples. Pauline or Birdo would have been a much better choice.
I find it interesting that different devs seem more capable than others when it comes to porting games. It also seems to depend on which hardware those games were initially developed for (e.g. PC, Wii U ports seem more suited).
I think Nintendo are slowly realising there’s a lot of money in porting some of their own library, and I wish they’d have a look at the N64/GC back catalogue as lots of people would double dip to have games like F-Zero and Wind Waker as portable.

Sweet. Still waiting on an Inazuma Eleven game for Switch too.

Re: Feature: The Worst Nintendo Switch Games Of 2019
@EVIL-C To be fair, some people enjoy trying terrible games, especially if they’re cheap. This list may even help sales for the 10 games listed.

Re: Nintendo Wants To Focus On New "Experiences" For Switch, But Is Open To More Remakes
Both sound good. And I mean specifically, a new F-Zero or a remake of F-Zero GX.

Inazuma Eleven was the reason I bought a DS! Football and RPG, what’s not to like?
