Re: Review: Spot the Differences! (3DS eShop)

Airola

I quite liked the WiiU-version and quickly checked the rating of this and at first thought why they would give this such a low score. Then I noticed the price point while reading the review... Ugh...

The price of $5/4,99€ is OK-ish on the Wii U, so how on earth they can ask twice as much for a game that has lot less puzzles to solve. These can be surprisingly addictive games, but not enough to justify that big of a price.

Re: January's NPD Results Show Improved Software Sales for Nintendo, With Hardware Figures Elusive

Airola

@Lebon14 That graph has info from the first January of each console. So the WiiU part is from January 2013 and the X1 and PS4 infos are from January 2014.

Yeah, the drop after two first months of WiiU was really huge, and it's actually quite a shock to see the sales Xbox One dropping nearly as much, and PS4 dropping a lot too. I'd imagine the consoles that have the biggest launches ever in video game history (both sold around a million at lauch which is absolutely amazing) would had way more stable post-holiday month, but now it seems all of these new consoles are seeing much bigger drop in people's interest than anyone dared to expect.

PS4 was the biggest seller in January, but it sold only about 270k, which is only decent at best. There is a reason Sony says only "our platform was the #1 seller in January." If they would give hard numbers, it wouldn't be impressive in the slightest.

Well, surely both Sony and Microsoft are doing way better than Nintendo, but the percentage of the drop, especially on xbox, is horrible conserning the hype and amazing sales the systems got at launch.

The indies will be the winners this generation. If the systems are getting good sales only during holidays, the big studios can't afford making big titles that have at least five times as big budgets than what they had 10 years ago.

Re: Wind Waker HD Wii U Bundle With Two Extra Games On Sale for $269.99

"This page shows the last 100 transactions of 1038 sold. "
http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&_trksid=p2047675.l2564&rt=nc&item=301085452995

It was 1029 sold when I first opened the page. Then it was 1038 just a minute or two later. Now it's already probably more.
(yep, checked it, it's now 1046)

If the seller really has that many bundles for sale, good luck packaging them and sending them away one by one

Re: Review: Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)

Airola

@GreatPlayer Apparently the "post-game worlds" are difficult, so you perhaps should check it out even though you might be under the impression that the game is easy. Some have even said that some of the levels after the end credits are some of the hardest levels ever seen in a 3D Mario game.

Also, I heard a podcast where people were saying that the final boss is the best final boss in any Mario game ever.

Re: Wii Party U and Wii Fit U Deliver Major Increase to Wii U Hardware Sales in Japan

Airola

By the way, it really seems that these bundles are doing their job somewhat well. It's a good sign that at the same time in Japan the sales grew quite a lot and the Mario & Luigi U bundles have been sold out at Target and Gamestop in the US. And I know that the Wind Waker bundle has sold well in Finland (or at least way better than any previous bundle since launch).

Now, it might not mean anything in long term, but it's definitely way better sign than constantly selling only 3000 weekly in Japan and having trouble to sell anything in Europe.

Re: Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag's Team Has "Worked to Improve" Overall Performance on Wii U

Airola

@Pachterkid So you didn't read the news. You didn't read what rjerj wrote, and you didn't read what I replied to him.

This was about the crowded battle scenes with framerate problems. Not about freezing issues. The PR guy commented only on those crowded scenes and that they have specifically tried to fix that, and that they have overcome it and are proud of it. Rjerj said the PR guy only mentioned that they've tried to fix it, when in fact he was saying more. That was what I wrote. That was what you didn't read.

Re: Interview: Designer Luc Bernard Talks Wii U And Crowdfunding His Vision

Airola

Oh my! I had completely forgotten Luc Bernard!
He was the Phil Fish of 2008! Or perhaps Phil Fish is the Luc Bernard of 2013!

I remember him quitting the video game industry at some point and I recall there being some kind of controversy about him back then. He was a personality.

I'm happy to hear about him again I'm glad he's still around.

Re: Review: Spelunker (3DS eShop / NES)

Airola

When you learn how this game's insane controls work, it's not too bad. The atmosphere is really good. The title music is great.

I have a really odd fascination towards this game, and I don't mean any kind of ironic approach towards the badness.

It just is better than what most reviews make it out to be. Easily at least 6/10.

Re: Review: Farming Simulator 3D (3DS eShop)

Airola

I've had the demo for a long time now. My sister's kids loved playing it so I bought the retail version when the playing counter on the demo started to reach zero. Paid 20 euros for it, and that was on sale! I think 10 dollars is a fair price for this. I've got some enjoyement of it myself too, but kids really seem to love it.
This is a fantastic game for the times when things in life get stressful. It gives a nice sense of relaxation that not many games give. I would rate it 8 or 9. It is great for what it is. I don't think a simulator based on a farm could get much better than this.

Re: European Gamers Bemoan PAL Version of Super Metroid

Airola

I can't see how those subtitles could annoy anyone. Come on, people! That's only the INTRO TEXT. I bet most people don't read even the English text and as soon as the actual game starts you don't have to see those subtitles ever again (except perhaps the end congratulations text might have subtitles).

This really is a nonissue.

Re: Wii U Virtual Console Launch Lineup Is Revealed

Airola

Yeah, this is absolutely disappointing.

That's basically 4 games:
Donkey Kong Jr.
Excitebike
Ice Climber
Super Mario World

I will upgrade my Super Mario World for 1,50e, that's for sure, but those other three games are something I would only buy if they were 1-2 euros.

The only way this would be worse, is that Super Mario World would be replaced by Urban Champion.

Not only are the four other games available already on the Wii U eShop, but you can actually buy ALL of them already on your Wii U via Wii Mode's Shopping Channel. I guess most of those who have the Wii U had Wiis too so most of us have been able to buy these games already. Why would I excited for Excitebike being on launch when there is way more interesting 3D version already available on 3DS?

I am really easy going with Nintendo and understand even their more foolish actions, but this one seems to be a lost opportunity. I've been thinking that the drought of games doesn't matter much because the VC for the Wii U will arrive soon and it should alone sell the system, but with a VC launch like this Nintendo is just making people even more uninterested.

Re: Game & Wario Brings Mayhem to North America on 23rd June

Airola

You can see a video of each minigame on the Nintendo Japan site:
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wiiu/asaj/index.html

Each of those smaller pictures on both sides of the big Wario brings you to a page of each game. By clicking on the round black&blue thing in the bottom right corner you can see a video of that game.
There are 16 different games and you can see videos of all of them. Some of them look pretty "meh" but some of them look surprisingly interesting.

For those who are thinking that 16 minigames in a "warioware" game is not enough, there is one minigame that actually has lots of those microgames in style of the previous Warioware game. The Western release has this game named as Gamer, and there you play as a child who tries to play games in secret. Those games are all new microgames and you get to play them all by yourself.

Re: Review: Toki Tori 2 (Wii U eShop)

Airola

LOL, I'm actually really excited about everything the review criticized it about
The best game I have ever played is the infamous La Mulana, and I have a feeling that this one will give me an experience that's a bit like that.

Re: Toki Tori 2 to Launch With a Discount

Airola

Pretty disappointed to see the price being 15 euros (that 1,5e discount doesn't help much). I was anticipating it being 10e max.

Oh well... I've been waiting for this game ever since I finished the first on WiiWare. There was a time when I lost my interest when I they talked about the sequel for the first time (it seemed to be completely different from the first and needlessly complex), but I got my interest back later and after it was told that it would be structured in a "metroidvania" style and seeing new videos I was again waiting for this game like nothing else. Seriously, for me it has been THE game to wait for Wii U for a long time now.

I am definitely going to buy it day 1. I've been saving a bit of money in my eShop account just for this. My savings there are only about 7 euros though, but that's enough to soften the 13,5e price a bit.

Can't wait!

EDIT:
I feel like an heel complaining about the price

Re: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Makes Its Debut in UK Top 10

Airola

Don't forget Darksiders II.
It's been a good seller at zavvi.com which is a UK based store. Its price has been under 20 euros for quite a while now and I've seen it getting out of stock too. There's been quite a demand for it as it has been taken back in stock and it's been their bestseller a long time now.

Re: Talking Point: Review Scores and Unwinnable Arguments

Airola

I guess I more often look at the score first and then read the review, but if it's a game I've been waiting for a long time and hugely interested in it, I usually read the review and try to do my best to keep the score a secret until I've read the whole review.

Re: Watch Dogs Confirmed For Release On Wii U

Airola

@sonic-doom
They CAN'T be on par with each other. The amount of memory alone makes all the difference. Sure, the machines can have graphics that are on par, but the memory allows a lot more stuff happen on screen and I'm sure PS4 versions run more smoothly. Like, for example, with Watch_Dogs I'm sure there will be much more people and cars driving around in the PS4 version, and of course it could allow more "hacking interaction" in wider areas. If the Wii U wants to handle that, its graphics have to be gimped. Or if they want to use the same quality graphics, they have to reduce the amount of stuff happening.

That's not exactly a huge thing though. It doesn't make the games overly different comparing to Wii U, but the machine is quite a lot more powerful which will be shown in games that need a huge amount of stuff happening in the game world all the time. But on games that don't need that kind of stuff, I think at least graphicswise the machines could be more on par.

Re: Watch Dogs Confirmed For Release On Wii U

Airola

@hamispink
Yes, a developer of the game told that PS4 version will have everything "more" than the PS3 version. More people walking around and stuff like that. The city with its people will be more immersive. I wonder how much "more" of everything there will be compared to Wii U version. I'm quite interested in seeing how the Gamepad will be used. It's definitely a good selling point on Wii U if it's implemented well enough.

Re: Tank! Tank! Tank! Available Now in European Wii U eShop

Airola

I think this is great.

I've had no intention to buy this game even though I've had a little bit of interest in trying it. It's quite clever to make this "F2P" and put one DLC into a bigger discount. That way they quaranteed to get at least 1.99e from me instead of zero. Bought the Kong Mode just because of the sale. That mode actually was the one that interested me the most (which isn't much, but at least it got a tiny bit of my attention). It may well be that even if I don't end up liking this that much, I will buy the rest of the DCLs in future. It's definitely more affordable to me to pay 2-10 euros a month rather than the full price immediately.

Sometimes I feel a bit sad for the developers that the games are so expensive that even if I would like to try the games and support those who make these games, I can't because I can't afford paying the full price. Well, now I can support them in a smaller scale and eventually they might get the full price from me too if I decide to buy the rest in following months.

Re: Balloon Fight On Wii U Reportedly Running At 50Hz in Europe

Airola

This whole 50hz thing doesn't matter to me at all. I can't understand people who are yelling Nintendo is treating them badly. I mean really... A video game that was originally released in Europe in 50hz is again released in 50hz. OHMYGOD the world collapses and Nintendo is inhumane and treating the fans like poo!!!111 Go live in Africa for a while and see if this problem really matters.

In my opinion, this doesn't affect the gameplay of Ballon Fight at all. It just doesn't matter.

Oh well, I've never been into graphics or speed, so I might not be the best person to comment on this. I still watch VHS tapes and play my games on my 16 years old CRT television. I don't care if it's HD or SD. I don't care if it's 60hz or 50hz. I just play the games, solving the puzzles and clearing the obstacles. Well, I have to admit though that after hearing Mega Man tunes in their original speed, the music in European versions sound reeeeaaalllly slow.

Re: Broken Rules "Had Higher Hopes" For Chasing Aurora

Airola

The only reason I haven't bought it is the price. I'm sad that I missed it on sale. I was actually once going to buy it but saw that the price had got up to 11.99 euros. Didn't buy it.

I put 20 euros on my account and bought Nano Assault Neo for 9.99 (which, by the way, is an excellent game!). At the moment I would've bought Chasing Aurora for 9.99 as I had just about that amount left in my account. Right now I'd probably buy Mighty Switch Force instead of Chasing Aurora, but if it would be 4.99, I would buy it instantly. There's no doubt about it. If it would be 6.99 or 7.99, I might consider buying it but even for 9.99 I might not buy it.

So, just drop the price and you might see wonders in the sales numbers!

Re: Wii U Software Sales Are "Struggling"

Airola

I've got Mario U, ZombiU and Nintendo Land. I had Mass Effect 3 for a moment, but didn't like it at all so I took it to Gamestop and traded it to NintendoLand.

I think the prices are way too high. Most of the Wii U games in Finland seem to cost 70 or 60 euros (about $93/£58 and $80/£50). That's insane!

I'd like to buy some of the downloadable games, but those are a bit too expensive too. I sadly missed the sale for Chasing Aurora. There's no way I will pay 12-13 euros for it as I would need to put at least another 10 euros to the account. I've bought Nano Assault Neo which is a great game and its price is the highest possible to be tolerable (just under 10 euros). Give me more games with 2-10 euro prices in the eShop and I'll gladly pay for them.

And they really should lower the price of downloadable retail games too.

Oh well, even if the retail game swould be cheaper I don't think I would buy much as there are only two games that are even remotely interesting me; Scribblenauts and Tekken, and even those should be somewhat cheaper for me to want to buy them.

But then again, it could be so that no matter how cheap the games are, we will continue to want them to be cheaper. We might be spoiled like that.

Re: Review: No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle (Wii)

Airola

I don't mean to be rude or anything like that and I understand that I might be wrong (and most certainly I am wrong) but to me this review felt like the reviewer wants to defend new and anticipated mature titles for the Wii because people have lately been very critical about the mature titles on the Wii. Especially all the talk about the game's "punk attitude" feels like that. Unnecessary thing that's meant to cover the faults.

Anyways, that's just how I felt. I'm not saying that's how it really was with the reviewer.

Re: Review: Sexy Poker (WiiWare)

Airola

@mjc0961
No there isn't. I know it's nitpicking but as I said, there really isn't anything exactly like this title. Yes, there are strip poker games. There might be some strip blackjack games too. Maybe there even is a game that has both the poker and the blackjack in it (and if there isn't then that's already one difference to other games).

My point is that although there are games of this genre available for free, this exact game isn't. The graphics are different, the women are different, the gameplay is slightly different. So, I someone wants to play a game of strip poker against those certain women and with using a Wii remote, you really can't get that for free from anywhere.

Yeah, I'm stretching the need for this game a bit (or even quite a lot ) but what I said still remains a solid fact that no argument can't prove wrong (until this exact game becomes available for free, that is).

Re: Review: Sexy Poker (WiiWare)

Airola

@Betagam7
I've enjoyed playing those old Strip Poker games on the Commodore 64 so I don't think those games are totally pointless (after all, a strip poker game is always a bit more interesting than a regular poker with some imaginary money in it). And it's not like this Sexy Poker would be totally rubbish. The simple poker and blackjack games seem to play ok. It's just that they seem to be very "lite" versions of the real games. But even then it seems to be more complex than those old C64 and even Spectrum pokers.

And what comes to the galleries in this game... Of course there should be a gallery where you can view the images you've "won." Not doing so would be just like if a game like Super Smash Bros. Brawl gave you those trophies as rewards but you could only look at those them after you've won them but when you'd reset the game they would be gone and you would have to try to win the trophy again.

And yes, people do buy this kind of games for the game also. Or at least to me it's way more interesting to play a game and win to reveal more pictures. Now, if it really was just an image slideshow without any kind of a game with it, that would be pointless. But now there really is a poker game AND a blackjack game, albeit somewhat simple versions.

Re: Review: Sexy Poker (WiiWare)

Airola

@Betagam7
I can't see why couldn't there be something that is already available on the internet. Yes, there are free poker games for us to play and there are a pictures of women on the internet. But then again there isn't anything exactly like this Sexy Poker. So it's still something that you really can't get for free.

To say that if you can get something from the internet there isn't point to have it on the Wii is basically the same if you said that you can play a chess game on the internet so you don't need any chess games for the Wii. Or if the game has violent pictures, there isn't a need for that kind of game because you can get violent images for free from the internet.

But, yeah, that's still not an excuse to make a game as dull as Sexy Poker seems to be. They really should've put more thought on this game. So yeah, you are right about that.

Well, at least the idea of the game is still way more entertaining than in Beer Pong, Karate Phants or Hockey All Star Shootout for example

Re: Review: Sexy Poker (WiiWare)

Airola

Let's face the facts. Seeing women naked or in their underwear is a nice thing. It is aesthetically satisfactory even if those women are drawn cartoon characters. And it doesn't have anything to do with sexism or making women as objects. It's just beautiful. And I appreciate those women who have enough self-confidence to show that beauty. And I appreciate those who can draw beautiful images of women. Yes, it might arouse people but what's wrong with that? That's biology and as long as people still appreciate themselves and other people things are fine.

So, it's not an awful thing that a game which is as bad as this has sexy images of women. The awful thing is that they really haven't done enough thinking to make the game itself a good one. Bare-bones poker and blackjack just isn't fun enough. It's not fun enough even if playing the game lets us to see those women. They really should've made the game something that makes the player really feel rewarded from winning the opponent.

At first I thought that the game would've contained pictures of real women. I also thought that they would be completely naked at the end. Then they revealed that they wouldn't get naked. It was fine. It might still be fun. Then I found out that the pictures would be cartoon pictures. It was a disappointment but I still thought that it would be okay for the 500 points it will cost. But now it's revealed that the game itself isn't good and that finally made me thinking that I don't want to buy it.

But then again, I still might find myself buying it the day it's released in Europe. I'm that easy

PS. Game makers really could do really good and entertaining adult games if they wanted. For example True Love for PC is a really good and addicting game even without all the hentai stuff (but of course the hentai makes it better) and it really has depth in it and great replay value.

Re: Sexy Poker - ESRB Rated Sans Nudity

Airola

@Omega
"But there is one thing that I can still not understand. Why should anyone be interested in seeing girls in a video game when there is the internet? Because they care for a round of poker?

Because earning the sights is much more pleasing than just easily clicking a link on internet. And it's always more interesting to see someone undressing. You know, slowly revealing more and more. And when every single part of the undressing is earned by playing well the satisfaction of completing the level and seeing the result will be much greater.

Re: Review: Smash Table Tennis (Virtual Console / NES)

Airola

In my opinion the game should be boring AND the game controls should be broken for it to deserve 1/10. The only thing this review seems to complain is that it's just boring and there's no reason for it to be released since there are more Ping Pong games available.

I think that if one takes the game for what it is it should have at least one star higher score. I have a C64 version of this game and while it's not the most exciting thing I've played it played fairly well. It managed to be fun as a reaction based small game when played with a friend. I can't think that the FDS version would've been any worse.

I know that the game might be boring to some but it doesn't take away the fact that the controls work quite the way they should work and the scoring system is faultless. I think these things should be addressed when writing a review. Well, it's not up to me what kind of reviews you guys do here so feel free to write any kind of reviews you want. I'm glad that we have the possibility to comment so that people can see other opinions right under the review.

Re: WiiWare Poker Game Too Sexy For Australia

Airola

@Ferret75
But playing poker to see breasts is a different experience to writing "tits" to google to see them It's all about earning to see great visuals and giving some credit for it (by buying the product with the pictures)
