It's that time again, North American gamers, as we have more downloadable treats to consider. Some arrivals dropped onto the eShop stores following this week's Nintendo Direct broadcast, while there are a host of additional attractive options for Wii U and 3DS landing today. Plenty to cover, so let's get to the details.
Missed the European Nintendo Download Update earlier in the week? Don't fret, the details are right here.
Wii U eShop
The Swapper (Curve Digital, $19.99) — This is an award-winning release that aims to provide complex puzzles and a strong narrative, all within an isolated and atmospheric sci-fi world. Players wield an experimental device which allows them to create clones of themselves, swapping their entire consciousness into new bodies to overcome the challenges of the environment. This looks like another intriguing game from the Nindies over at Curve Digital, we'll bring you our review soon.
Sportsball (TOO DX, $9.99) — The Wii U has a tempting selection of fast-paced local-multiplayer games, with this now joining the list. Four players each control a colourful exotic bird that must dunk balls into a central net for points, with plenty of jostling and fierce competing inevitable between combatants across seven modes. We'll gather some buddies and work on a review.
Pier Solar and the Great Architects (WaterMelon, $14.99) — This HD release of WaterMelon's Genesis / Mega Drive RPG took a while to arrive, but it lands with a bold promise of a sizeable adventure to deprive you of tens of hours. It's an admirable labour of love, but some flaws meant we awarded this 6/10 in our Pier Solar and the Great Architects review.
SDK Paint (HullBreach Studios, $2.99) — This is a drawing app that aims to provide a full tool-set — with stencil sets — and will be compatible with future games that the studio releases or collaborates on. It promises multiple control and sharing options that will utilise the GamePad; we'll find our artistic side and put this through its paces.
Shuttle Rush (Takusan Works, $7.99) — A 2D action platformer with an emphasis on speed, you need to dash through pixel-based alien and spaceship environments to reach the next oxygen point before suffocation. Dramatic stuff, we'll hold our breath as we test its merits.
Pikmin Short Movies HD (Nintendo, $4.99) — Three short animations: in "The Night Juicer", we see Captain Olimar preparing his favourite drink, in "Treasure in a Bottle" the Pikmin encounter a most peculiar treasure, and in the grand spectacle of "Occupational Hazards", we watch as the Pikmin deal with some very perilous working conditions on a building site.
Flapp & Zegeta (Denysoft, $4.99) — We don't want to alarm you, but this looks like another Flappy Bird clone, albeit this one's set in space. As we're not sure what else to say, we'll save it for a review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Super Mario Advance (Nintendo, $7.99) — The Game Boy Advance was occasionally utilised for re-releases of classic titles, and this contains Mario All-Stars versions of NES releases Super Mario Bros. 2 and Mario Bros., with the former being the headline act. We'll bring you a review of this retro classic soon.
Wii U Retail Downloads
Disney Infinity 2.0: Play without Limits (Disney Interactive Studios, $19.99) — A sequel that brings Marvel characters into the Toy Box, with all new Play Sets; this title aims to keep fans entertained by combining these new characters with their Disney predecessors. The disc based version came out in September with figurine bundles, though this download option provides an affordable alternative. To find out more check out our Disney Infinity 2.0 review.
Disney Planes: Fire & Rescue (Little Orbit, $39.99) — This sequel tasks you with battling fires and saving lives in over 30 Fire & Rescue Missions with eight playable characters. Available from 11th November.

Sonic Lost World (Sega, now $29.95, previously $49.99)

3DS eShop
Kemonomix+ (Rocket Studio, $4.99) — A curious title in which you train a Kemono and explore an alien planet for vital resources, with the goal of collecting parts to rebuild your spaceship (and no, it doesn't look like Pikmin); you do have 2000 days to achieve this, thankfully. We'll let you know what we think in a review.
Safari Quest (Maximum Games, $4.99) — This isn't another animal care sim. Hooray! It is a match 3 puzzle game... It could be fun, to be fair, and we'll go in with an open mind in our review.
Pikmin Short Movies 3D (Nintendo, $4.99) — Three short animations: in "The Night Juicer", we see Captain Olimar preparing his favourite drink, in "Treasure in a Bottle" the Pikmin encounter a most peculiar treasure, and in the grand spectacle of "Occupational Hazards", we watch as the Pikmin deal with some very perilous working conditions on a building site.
3DS Virtual Console
Pokémon Puzzle Challenge (Nintendo, $4.99) — This kicks off a month of 'mon releases, with this Game Boy Color title serving up six different modes of tile-related puzzling. We'll bring you a review soon.
3DS Retail Downloads
Nintendogs + Cats (Nintendo, $TBC) — The three variations of this launch title finally arrive on the 3DS eShop, while those that download any of these titles will received a download code for a free Nintendogs 3DS HOME theme.
Disney Planes: Fire & Rescue (Little Orbit, $29.99) — Available from 11th November.

What?! We got a good Mario GBA game on our VC?! My poor wallet! I may already have SMB2 and this GBA cart, but I may end up dropping yet another $8...
Been waiting for Siesta Fiesta to go on sale.
nothing for me this week...
Seriously where is donkey kong?
Wilt thou ever go on sale, O fair Steel Empire?
Luckily, I have the Wii VC versions of all the DKC games at least.
Really? NoA decides to release other SMA games despite the original games being already available. Sure I'd understand if it was SMA4 with e-reader support but this is a waste that could have been DKC instead.
Heck yeah! The Mario advance games are trickling in! Nice.
I want that SMA in Europe!
edit: not really. now about those GBAvanias...
So, Nintendo gives a GBA version of a game that is already available (for less) on the VC? Meanwhile, The Mysterious Murasame Castle is still MIA on the WiiU. Does anyone actually "think" at Nintendo of America?
Sportsball. So CRAZY fun with 4 people (5 as an announcer, too haha).
Great multiplayer game. Can't wait to play more!
Buy The Swapper. It's incredible.
Well, I'm sure glad I didn't buy the original SMB2. Now I can just get the remake. Still waiting on my N64 VC, though.
How much are the nintendogs games? Might finally pick one up, at least if they don't have the audacity to sell it at the initial retail price.
So wait, Nintendogs + Cats gives you a code for the theme...is it exclusive to that?...looks like exclusive themes are already starting, Ulitmate NES remix being next.
I will wait for reviews for the Swapper, and I will get the Pikmin movies on the weekend, when I have more time for my Wii U to not play Bayonetta 2.
I'm defintely getting the HD Pikmin shorts, as I just love animation so much. I'll probably get the Swapper a little later, maybe after the Holidays.
Awesome. While I'll always keep copies of the original 8-bit Mario games to preserve history, I've always preferred the updated graphics of All-Stars/Advance. Guess I'll be buying Super Mario Bros 2 yet again.
I'll get the Pikmin Shorts, but now that Sonic Lost Worlds is cheaper, I'm more tempted to get that. Sonic Boom really doesn't appeal to me, but I'll have to try the demo.
So many choices.
I'll try out Super Mario Advance since I never played it before
yeah pokemon on vc 1/2
and no donkey kong land 1-3
why why can we get that soon please
Swapper was around $5 on Steam last week, not paying 4x the price for it on WiiU.
@Yogsoggoth
Yeah I've been waiting on Murasame for Wii-U too. That is the most disappointing/puzzling VC release I have seen? A game that is already available on VC and at a higher price ($3 more)? I didn't buy Tennis or Volleyball, but at least they are different games that were not already available. SMH
So many games this week! <3
Also for anyone wondering, there are some additions and enhancements in Super Mario Advance that justify it's release.
Gonna get Pier Solar
If I didn't already own Siesta Fiesta I would be getting it now. I'll give the Sonic Boom demo a try. What do I have to lose? There are other worthy titles but I have Bayonetta to play and Kart DLC on the way.
Was interested in Swapper, but not at that price.
@Yogsoggoth Do you have a 3DS? NES games look much better on 3DS anyway.
So many choices and so little I want. Maybe Pier Solar HD someday.
Pier Solar I'll get once Citizens of Earth's out. I'm also interested in Super Mario Advance, but I might just get the NES version instead unless the NES version is kinda glitchy...
I'll get The Swapper eventually, but it's out at a bad time - too many games out at once! I'll wait for a discount if only because that's the only way it'll be bumped up high enough on the list of things to buy to make it this decade.
Got the Pikmin Short Movies last night. They're amazing. A bit pricey, but I love Pikmin, so it's worth it for me. Haha. My mom really enjoyed watching it as well, especially since there was no dialogue that she would have to read or listen to to understand what was going on; it was just the Pikmin's expressions, sounds, and little thought bubbles.
@manu0
I do have an original 3DS and the NES games are way too small for my eyesight.
@Yogsoggoth Hmm, that's too bad. NES games still look like sh*t on the Wii U though.
@Yogsoggoth: No, I don't think so. All they think about is Mario.
@Everybody wanting Donkey Kong Country on the VC, I got this for ya:

@Yogsoggoth Same here. I'd take stretched, fuzzy sprites over having to squint the entire time...
@manu0: NES games look like better on the GamePad and look alright on the TV. I will take that over the rinky dink screen on the 3DS anyday.
Pier Solar definitely.
@Ryno Well we don't have Demon's Crest yet, which I'd really like to have.
@manu0: Oh I hear you on that. I would much rather rather have Demon's Crest over the 3 Donkey Kong Country games any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
@CanisWolfred There's only one glitch I know of in SMB2, where if you don't quite make your mark when jumping to a platform, you'll sometimes land inside the wall, but not get stuck or anything.
Love the support were seeing with Nintendo CG videos, yeah, a bit steep, but I also think you should support what you want to see more of. I always said I would pay for the clips like we see for smash, and now I can.
@Ryno - You really need to post that Reggie jpg in the other thread. Actually that should be the ONLY post in the other thread
Nice to see so many games on Wii U, even if I'm not really interested in any of them right now, it's still a lot for Nintnedo. 3DS looks good too.
Was really disappointed about Mario Advance, thought it would be an Advance Wars clone like Nobanuga's Ambition w/ Mario and Luigi fighting alot of little Bowser Jrs and Goomba's. Really, I did. I need a paper Mario like RPG or strategy game on Wii U. STEAM was a reminder of that. Long wait for Splatoon.
@Ryno we do have Gargoyle's Quest II (All I care about is Demon's Crest, though!)
So.. much stuff... this week
Seeing Super Mario Advance gives me optimism that we'll see Mario Kart Super Circuit one of these days.
Any news about when Pixel Paint will come out in Canada?
@Grumblevolcano Agreed. Silly GBA entry this week. I guess we can't expect too much after 3 straight weeks of Castlevania amazingness.
@speedyboris That'd be great. I've actually never played it, but it appears to be pretty similar to the original MK, which is my favorite in the series. I'd love to check it out.
@SetupDisk It's not in Canada? well I doubt it will come then...
Great discounts on Wii U today. Sonic Lost World on 3DS should've got a bigger discount, considering it now costs the same as the Wii U version!
Now if Lost World could be on sale for $15 I could justify buying it cause I just want to play the DLC, not too interested in the game itself
@Seanmyster6 there's quite a lengthy list on Wikipedia actually. Like, 30 glitches or something like that...
@Ryno
SO I guess the same image would apply to those wanting the castlevania games.
Disney Infinity 2.0 was the last purchase for me for the year. So far just messing around with it last night, I am much happier with it over the original. The unlock system actually makes sense (both in measure when you get an unlock and how it works), and the customization of characters makes the game a little more interesting. I expect many hours of fun with my kids with this.
Who knows, eventually I may even pick up a playset for it but right now I am happy having Mr. Incredible fill in for a Marvel Superhero.
Pokemon TCG. JUST ONE MORE WEEK.
At least we get Pokemon Puzzle Challenge in the meantime. Geeze, I played the HECK out of Pokemon Puzzle League on the N64 back in the day. Still play it from time to time.
Just downloaded Pokémon Puzzle Challenge and got an ORAS demo code :S
I want the Swapper but not at $20. Nothing for me this week.
Great, now I have to "upgrade" Super Mario Bros. 2. :/
So no new themes besides Nintendogs?
also, for those who don't know, you can get a Pokemon OR and AS demo code if you buy pokemon puzzle league
Pokémon Puzzle Challenge!!! =D
I want Pier Solar, but things are looking pretty grim wallet-wise this month (TOO MANY RELEASES!), so I'll wait on it for a while. Plus, I just got Bayonetta 2 last night, which is probably gonna dominate my gaming time for the next few weeks.
Theme shop icon has a notification.
I go to check.
Nothing new at all.
NA has worst theme distribution by far.
Also
Super Mario Advance is nice. You can get the original SMB2 and Mario Bros for 5 each or get the remakes/ports/whatever in a package for 8 bucks. Seems like a good call.
Those Pikmin short films are amazing and should win an award, they really are spectacular.
As for VC, I'm sorry, all I can think is DONKEY KONG COUNTRY, where is Donkey Kong Country? This will not stand man... this aggression will not stand
I just watched the Japanese trailers for Kemonomix+ and, not even taking into account the language barrier, I have NO CLUE what is going on with that game. I hope there is an English trailer on the eShop because I am officially intrigued.
The trailer for Shuttle Rush also looks quite nifty, but I'm still too on the fence to vote yet. Will most likely be waiting on a price drop for The Swapper unless the Wii U version just gets hellacious reviews.
Tempted to give the lost world demo a try again, I want to like it, but I felt like I was in a foreign land when I played the demo like a year ago.
I'm strangely interested in SDK Paint and debating on picking up Shuttle Rush or SMA.
trash, trash and moar trash
DKC is all I want. I may get the Pikmin shorts soon.
I just bought siesta fiesta last week. Shoot.
@Yogsoggoth To be fair, the Wii U VC is missing a ton of NES games that are on the 3DS VC in NA. Summer Carnival '92 RECCA being one of them.
Unfortunately, nothing for me this week! Just waiting semi-patiently for Smash on Wii U!
I got a Nintendogs game...but I picked nothing for me this week by accident
Going to need a better discount than that to be convinced to get Sonic Lost World (even if i seen everything) Disney Infinity 2.0 is too expensive for a near mediocre game (no offense to fans)
I'd get Pokemon Puzzle Challenge IF I didn't already have the DSiware version of that game sans the Pokemon.
I'm waiting for Super Smash Bros. Wii U so I'll save my money until that game arrives. Unlike some other people I haven't already bought the 3DS version so this will be completely fresh to me. I don't want to double dip.
Super Mario Advance is a great version of SMB2, but come on, we need the DKCs, NoA. The only acceptable explanation for their absence will be if they're saving them for a DKC 20th anniversary tie-in later this month.
Super Mario Advance isn't just a port of SMB2/SMB:USA on Mario All-Star. It actually has a lot of updates from the All-Star remake including red coin hunt, added graphical effects, and other little surprises mixed in. After looking into reviews of the game and watching parts of an LP of it, I really missed out not getting SMA. SMB2 is one of my favorite games as I used to play it like crazy as a kid. I have a feeling I will be grabbing it sometime soon.
Excellent week. A lot of good downloads.
So they'd rather give us a remake of Super Mario Bros. 2, which is already on the VC in NES form, than Donkey Kong Country?
Ah, what the hey. I did like the GBA Super Mario Bros. 2 while I had it. Might just pick it up if it goes on sale.
The games on the eShop are crazy this week, everything looks like it's wroth my time. We'll other then the flappy bird clone. Now I just don't know what to snag, plus there is stuff from the past week I want to check out!
$15 for Nintendogs? I'll take 10!
Seriously though, that's a good deal.
Super Mario Advance is a nice touch, but I won't get any of them until the one that features Super Mario Bros 3 comes out. I love SMB3 and it's the only one of the Advance games I can justify getting when I already have the original on VC.
Love love LOVE the Tetris Attack/Pokémon Puzzle League games. They're the most underrated puzzle games that have come out on Nintendo's platforms. I highly recommend them if you've never tried them!
@Sir_Teabag The Swapper and Stealth Inc 2 are both pretty darn cool, just saying!
@Wiidsguy Stealth Inc 2 is pretty intense, and the Swapper? Wow... Win/win and definitely worth it
@Stu13 So far it's awesome, very dark and mysterious
@Xamorus thanks bro, ...if i only had a wii u tho
might still pick up pokemon puzzle challenge tho, well see....
I'm not sure why, but I'm a real sucker for Breakout clones (if they're good). I might have to pick up Siesta Fiesta...
Which reminds me, has anyone else on here ever played Jardinains? It's an obscure Breakout clone for the PC where you have gnomes that randomly pop out of the blocks you're trying to break. They try to throw potted plants at your board while you try to hit the block that they're on. If you break the one they're on, then they'll fall and you can bounce them until they explode (it's not gory, just goofy) and they'll give you a power-up. It's pretty absurd. I played it a lot growing up.
Why is Mario Advance $8 when the NES original Mario 2 is only $5 heh
Nothing for me, but looks like a few anticipated titles finally showed up for those who don't already own an Ouya. (I'm talking to you, Pier Solar.)
If you haven't already got Siesta Fiesta, pick it up now. You won't regret it.
