Tales from the Borderlands (Switch eShop)
£11.99 (-40%)
Tales from the Borderlands is arguably Telltale Games' finest hour and easily one of the very best choice-driven narrative adventures available on any system. This is 10 glorious hours' worth of top-notch entertainment with a world-class cast, consistently excellent writing that manages to perfectly balance comedy and drama, non-stop twisted action and a cast of kooky characters that are a joy to spend time with.
This really is the best the Borderlands universe has ever been, and a game that everyone should experience at least once.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge (Switch eShop)
£14.61 (-35%)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is the best Turtles beat 'em up ever made. It looks delicious, sounds superb, and rekindles childhood memories beyond all expectations, time-warping you back to 1987.
Its combat system is so much fun to mine that you feel compelled to keep coming back to try new strategies, and with its awesome co-op multiplayer, the experience evolves again and again. Like many a beat 'em up, it does get repetitive as you enter the last third, but that’s more a fault of the concept than the game. Shredder’s Revenge really is an unprecedented, ahem, shell-ebration.
The Dimension Shellshock DLC (also on sale for £4.89) adds new fighters and a Survival mode, too, and if you can't get enough of your Turtle-filled co-op brawlers, there's also Digital Eclipse's TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection, which features a boatload of Konami classics to keep you busy for hours.

Tetris Effect: Connected (Switch eShop)
£17.99 (-50%)
Tetris Effect: Connected is perhaps the best iteration of the classic puzzler yet.
While this Switch port doesn't offer a great deal over existing versions in terms of features, it delivers the one key ingredient that its rivals cannot: portability. Sure, some will argue that Tetris Effect: Connected's unique brand of synesthesia only really comes alive when played on PSVR or an Oculus Quest headset, but we'd argue passionately that this game benefits far more from the ability to pick it up and play whenever, wherever.
Just as the Game Boy and Tetris combined to create an irresistible, world-conquering fusion back in 1989, Tetris Effect: Connected found the hardware that allowed it to truly shine, making this an utterly essential purchase for all Nintendo Switch owners. Don't forget those headphones.
The Alliance Alive HD Remastered (Switch)
£14.99 (-70%)
Nearly two years on from its initial release, The Alliance Alive HD Remastered proved to be a perfectly competent port of an already fantastic handheld game. A well-written story, a smartly interwoven and complex system of gameplay mechanics, and a distinctive visual style makes this a no-brainer for anybody looking for a consistently high-quality RPG experience on their Switch. It may feel a little simple, given its origins on the 3DS, but don’t make the mistake of passing up on The Alliance Alive HD Remastered, it’s well worth your time.
The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood (Switch eShop)
£7.89 (-50%)
The Tarot deckbuilding aspect is present and correct here, but the wide variety of Witches and the way their stories intertwine is where The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood really shines. Every being that you encounter has a purpose in this story, and all the threads twist together to make a truly beautiful tapestry. Being locked down narrative paths without the ability to return might not be for everyone, but it's a moot point when the story is this good — every playthrough will feel like a brand-new experience.
The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe (Switch eShop)
£9.99 (-50%)
A thoroughly enjoyable expansion of an already classic game treated with love, care, and most importantly a meta awareness that pays tribute to everything that made the original so beloved. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe may leave a small few questioning more than they’d like, but we wouldn’t want it any other way.
Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] (Switch)
£8.74 (-75%)
Don't let this one's comically unwieldy title put you off. Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] is a super slick, fast-paced fighter that manages to successfully straddle the line between being instantly accessible and welcoming for newcomers and in-depth enough to satisfy hardcore fight fans. Its lineup of 21 fighters is much more exciting than their anime stylings may suggest, and the Chronicles mode gives fans of the visual novel element of the game plenty to sink their teeth into.
With the most comprehensive training and tutorial modes we've ever encountered in a fighting game, this is easily one of the most well-rounded, satisfying and instantly engaging brawlers on Switch and – even with an online mode which needed some attention – there's plenty for fans of the genre to sink their teeth into here.
Unicorn Overlord (Switch)
£32.99 (-40%)
Even amidst a huge strategy-RPG boom, Unicorn Overlord stands out. It’s a smorgasbord of visual delights, intricate systems, and addictive gameplay loops that all come together to create a delightfully thrilling and deep tactical RPG. It’s so easy to get absorbed into everything the game offers, and we lapped it all up.
Vanillaware has long been known for creating beautiful-looking games with unique twists on genres, but with 13 Sentinels and now Unicorn Overlord, this developer should be on absolutely everyone’s radar.
Unpacking (Switch eShop)
£8.99 (-50%)
Unpacking manages to do several things very well, all at the same time. It’s a touching story told through interaction, it provides the creative play space of a great dollhouse game, and it deftly applies established game design ideas from completely different genres. Its only real shortcoming is the repetition that is a necessary byproduct of landing its message. Effort has gone into making the controls satisfying on Switch, and the visual and sound design are delightful throughout, making Unpacking, like any sane person’s cutlery, absolutely top-drawer.
UNSIGHTED (Switch eShop)
£7.19 (-60%)
Unsighted combines some very familiar ideas: it’s a top-down, roguelite, sci-fi Metroidvania with a strong 16-bit aesthetic. Its time-is-ticking, post-apocalyptic scenario is brought to life by the enchanting palettes of its pixel art, making a world you want to explore, full of characters you want to know.
Far from punishing, it leans more on the 'lite' than the 'rogue', letting fun prevail – as it will, thanks to the addictive rhythm of the controls, backed by punchy sounds. The cooperative multiplayer is icing on top of an already well-iced cake.
Combining flavours of Super Nintendo classics with modern playability, Unsighted is the game 1995 desperately wanted to make but just didn’t know how.
Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider (Switch eShop)
£9.09 (-35%)
Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider is an absolute triumph in 'neo-retro' game design. It boasts fluid combat with plenty of variety in environmental and enemy design and an art style that looks like it beamed straight over from the early '90s. While its overall short length might be a bit of a sticking point for some, those looking for an action title that is not only a fantastic experience but also feels like an authentically retro one will find this to be an absolute no-brainer.
Volgarr the Viking II (Switch eShop)
£13.19 (-25%)
Volgarr the Viking II is, quite simply, one of the best 2D action platformers on Switch, or any other platform for that matter. It improves upon the original in just about every conceivable way, introducing neat ways to ease newcomers into its relentless brutality, vastly improving the visuals, and adding a soundtrack that is destined to go down as one of the all-time greats. Minor quibbles with the UI aside, Volgarr the Viking II is an absolute must-play if you can stomach the intense Ghosts 'n Goblins-style difficulty.
Wandersong (Switch eShop)
£4.49 (-75%)
If you’re after a unique experience, Wandersong completely has you covered. The singing mechanic employed works perfectly, and while it may feel a bit too easy at times, the combination of the visuals, writing, and various gameplay objectives across a generous seven-act structure make for an incredibly compelling platforming experience that you’d do well to check out.
Wargroove (Switch eShop)
£4.79 (-70%)
As far as strategy games are concerned on the Switch, Wargroove is one of the best titles you can find on the eShop. Extremely deep and diverse strategy gameplay, ridiculous amounts of replayability, and charming presentation all combine to make this one an easy recommendation to anybody looking for a deep and cerebral experience for their Switch. Advance Wars did finally return, but Chucklefish's Wargroove and its sequel stand as worthy successors to that franchise.
Wargroove 2 (Switch eShop)
£11.72 (-30%)
It isn’t often that war is a cosy affair, but Wargroove 2 manages to pull it off. We loved the game’s colourful, vibrant art and playful writing, and there is enough depth and variety in the main campaign to satisfy most tactics fans while the Conquest mode will offer an even greater challenge for those seeking it.
It doesn’t change much from the previous game; it just tightens up some of the existing mechanics and adds a couple of extra wrinkles to an already great formula. It's a brilliant sequel, and yet another worthy successor to Advance Wars.
What The Golf? (Switch eShop)
£8.99 (-50%)
What the Golf? is a sterling effort for Switch that has clearly had enormous amounts of love poured into it. Its aesthetic is a little bit indie-by-numbers but there's so much to see and do here that'll have you (and a friend) laughing out loud. It may not be the most difficult game in the world, but it's damn good fun, even if you don't like golf.
Especially if you don't like golf, in fact.
Windjammers 2 (Switch eShop)
£8.09 (-55%)
With Windjammers 2, Dotemu has taken the fiendishly addictive core formula of the Neo Geo classic and improved upon it in every way. The core gameplay here remains as immediately endearing as ever whilst being enhanced and given a real strategic kick by a bevvy of new moves and skills that add to the fun without detracting from or overcomplicating proceedings. Yes, there's not much in the way of modes, but this is another banger from Dotemu — an all-time classic improved upon, an arcade classic refined for a new generation.
World of Goo (Switch eShop)
£5.99 (-50%)
World of Goo is a true classic, and it's revered for good reason. 2D Boy's game is instantly accessible but with plenty of depth; it's paced out perfectly, with a steady stream of new tricks and techniques to learn; and its puzzles can be solved with forward-thinking, quick reflexes or a mixture of both. Wrapped up in a unique, pleasantly apocalyptic presentation, with co-op support and a harder 'OCD' mode for added replay value, this is a complete puzzle package.
If you've played it previously, the Switch incarnation might be worth a second go for its portable pointer controls and on-the-go co-op, but if it's your first time into the World of Goo, it's absolutely a must-play.
Not a bad collection, we'd say. Of course, there are a boatload of terrific 8/10s also in the 'Play On' sale, but things would become a little unruly if we listed them here too — you'll have to sniff those out for yourselves!
Will you be picking up any of the above titles on sale? Let us know in the comments, and give us a shout if there's a 9/10 or higher with a 'Play On' discount that we've missed.

Nice, will check when I have the time if there are any games among these that interest me and are still missing from my Deku Deals wishlist (that I don't straight up already have, that is) - regardless, happy for my fellow Europeans going for any of these!
This just reminds me that I need to look into the release date for the physical release of Botany Manor.
If you have young ones. Alba is a fantastic game. It’s only £2.51.
@1UP_MARIO Thanks, Alba looks really good, might buy it. It looks something like @Anti-Matter would enjoy too.
Few Disgaea titles on sale as well, and Child of Light.
Come on people, buy every single game of these. 😅
Sure, I should pick up 98 games, that's exactly what my backlog needs, not to mention my bank account. Very clever, NL!
A list of 98 games isn't much better than the eshop itself.
There aren't 98 9/10 games in a console generation. There is probably one or two per year.
@1UP_MARIO
Played Alba earlier this year. Awesome game.
No thanks, physical only here
Many great recommendations, Shovel Knight and Lunistice need more spotlight. Okami is a thing that I will never not recommend.
Ace Combat 7 sat well with me too (ps5) - the story was actually written by someone who had something to convey, it's not just a bang bang background filler. It's rare for action games.
Also Phantom Brave Lost Hero 10/10 review when
I wonder how many of these games were marked as “shovelware” on the “better” eShop?
"(you'll find all EUR savings on the respective eShops)." Would it be so hard to show both
I'm thinking of picking up The Alliance Alive, which I loved playing on the PS4 years ago but only made it like 25% into the game, and maybe also The Legend of Legacy since it seems fun the two games are kind of connected. Also Child of Light (another fave from the PS3/4 days), the Stray Gods DLC and maybe the Wargroove bundle but I'm not sure about that one yet. Not part of this sale but there's also Echoes of the Plum Grove and Ultros currently with launch discounts... Figured might as well splurge a bit one last time while we can still get gold points.
OT, but I really hope you guys review Star of Providence some time. It's a banger.
I just got Alien Isolation (that is also very cheap at the moment), and I'm looking forward to give it a go tonight, with the headphones...
13 sentinels is wonderful. It's a must buy honestly.
Picked up several of these games at lower prices than this before! Nintendo sales are weird.
