12. Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition (Switch eShop)

Main + Sides: 101 Hours

Sinner sinner chicken dinner. If Baldur's Gate isn't a substantial enough isometric RPG for you, Larian's Divinity: Original Sin 2 breaks the 100-hour barrier, with another 50 waiting in the wings for sinners just can't stop sinning.

Sin puns in the comments, please. We're 25 entries (s)in and need a pick-me-up.

11. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (Switch)

Main + Sides: 102 Hours

You may have thought Monolith Soft was saving the biggest and best Xenoblade for last, but apparently not — at least not the biggest! Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a chunky monkey — and the Future Redeemed DLC whacks nearly 24 hours to the total — but XC2 is the larger game.

But how much larger? you may ask. Scroll down three entries to find out.

10. Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society (Switch)

Main + Sides: 103 Hours

NIS' impressive dungeon crawler is one for lovers of that genre, but that goes for all dungeon crawlers, no? Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society delivers 103 hours of top-level, maze-filled adventuring, although you can apparently rush through the main story in a mere 82 hours. Piece'a cake.

9. The Legend Of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV (Switch)

Main + Sides: 103 Hours

Still in the Kiseki mood? 'Course you are. Enter Trails of Cold Steel IV, a fitting final chapter to the Cold Steel branch which is almost certainly not where newcomers should start. 100%-ers can get another 30 hours out of it, too, if you're just not ready to let go.

8. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch)

Main + Sides: 106 Hours

The biggest of the XCs on Switch, add in the standalone Torna: The Golden Country DLC and you're looking at over 130 hours of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. If you're wondering how any series can maintain the quality level to hold your attention for so long, it's telling that we're still pining for the MIA Switch port of Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Time to fire up the Wii U, perhaps, because there's no more Xenoblade on this list.

7. Motorsport Manager for Nintendo Switch (Switch eShop)

Main + Sides: 107 Hours

Eh? What's this? Where's Skyrim already?

Yes, it seems that the game sitting directly above (okay, below) Xenoblade in the rankings is *checks notes* 2019's Motorsport Manager for Nintendo Switch. Well, that's a turn-up for the books! Nothing against the game, of course, just a surprise.

What's that? Only 14 people were polled for this one compared to 1,600 for XC2? True, but why are you trying to silence those 14 motorsport sim enthusiasts? What have you got against poor Motorsport Manager!?

6. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Switch)

Main + Sides: 114 Hours

Ah, there's Skyrim. What's left to say? Big game, big mountains you can go to. Arrows, knees, jank, skies, and, er, rims. You really should have played this one by now. But if you haven't, set aside approximately 114 hours for it.

5. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch)

Main + Sides: 116 Hours

Bigger than BOTW, certainly, although there's still lively debate as to which is better. We're not here for that, though — this list is all about QUANTITY. Not to say Tears of the Kingdom isn't overflowing with quality too, of course, but on average it offers even more hours exploring a stunning open-world Hyrule than its illustrious predecessor.

Probably because it added an entire underground region plus sky islands into the mix.

4. Persona 5 Royal (Switch)

Main + Sides: 123 Hours

Persona 5 Royal weighs in with over ten 12-hour days' worth of excellence. The base game already touched around 100 hours, but Royal adds an additional month of in-game time, new characters, and quality-of-life features. But it's still longer. We called this one "required reading" in our review, so if you're only going to play one Persona, this is a right Royal pick.

3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition (Switch)

Main + Sides: 125 Hours

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition clocks in with around 20 hours of additional Witchering over the 'incomplete' base version, and given the substance of this masterpiece, you'll probably be glad to have it in portable form on Switch so you can take it out and about with you. The 2019 Switch port comes with the usual visual and performance caveats, but it's still a marvel to behold on the portable all these years on. This list isn't ranked by quality, but you'd be forgiven for thinking so looking at the last few games.

2. SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays (Switch)

Main + Sides: 137 Hours

Our final import-only game on this list, SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays features full English text and offers an enormous wealth of strategy-RPG goodness. It really is a shame that this one isn't more widely available in the West, but at least getting a copy isn't too complicated. If you're a strategy fan with time to kill and you've never heard of this one, you'd do well to take a chance on it.

1. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)

Main + Sides: 173 Hours

And coming in at number one, it's another returning series: 2018's Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.

This is Monster Hunter old-school-style. It's certainly lacking in some of the evolved additions made to World and the afore-listed Rise, but if you're a series fan who's been with Monster Hunting for a long time, memories of games like this one — which started life on 3DS — will bring a tear to your grizzled hunter's eye. And if the more recent entries have sparked an interest in this series and its lineage, Generations: Ultimate is a thoroughly engaging history lesson.

Completionists are looking at a staggering 877 hours, although only 11 people polled on How Long To Beat have sunk that sort of time into the game at the time of writing. Whether it'll grab you for months and months on end is a question we can't answer, but one this is clear: If you're looking for a time-sink series on Switch, Monster Hunter is one of the very best going.

We're off for a burger with a side of 'slaw and chips — all those 'Mains + Sides' made us hungry. Feel free to let us know your favourite long games on Switch in the comments below, and perhaps suggest some of the best 'bottomless' (sorry, can you tell we're hungry?) examples we excluded from the running.
