Its only fair to include VC with WiiWare when comparing download services as neither XBLA or PSN has a similar division. I think that the WiiShop is a quality service, the VC has so many great classics (and lots of dross too though) and there are some quality offerings on WiiWare, including a few hidden gems.

My experience of XBLA is very limited but from what I have seen the interface is far superior to WiiShop. XBLA is slick and fast where as WiiShop is slow and clunky, on an SD screen the text is almost unreadable and the screenshots pretty pointless.

I cant help but envy XBLA and PSN users sometimes though, particularly stuff like Castle Crashers and Street Fighter HD, I cant help but feel that the size limit imposed by nintendo is the reason that we dont get some titles like that, I'm at a loss to understand why such a small limit is in place. As well it would be great to be able to rent movies and TV shows, I know this has begun for Wii owners in Japan so maybe it will come to other regions soon too.

Virtual Console was one of the major reasons I wanted a Wii and that along with WW hasn't disappointed one bit.

No, they all have divisions. Nintendo has: WiiWare and Virtual Console. Sony has: PSN games and PS1 Classics (and just started in Japan and probably coming here eventually, Turbografix games). Microsoft has: Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox Originals.

Wiiware comes out on top, even though I haven't tried PSN or XBL. 309 classics and over 100 unique wiiware games are more than enough to make it the king.

How on earth do they get away with not having built-in wireless on the 360, then charging $100 for the adapter?? I had no clue about that until reading this thread. That's just ridiculous.

Same way they got away with charging $100 for a $20 hard drive, or $50 for a $5 memory stick, or $60 for half of a game and $40 for DLC that lets them unlock the other half (which is already on the disc), or $50 a year for an online service that their competitors provide for free: because their consumers are DUMB.

Very weak reason to like WW better than the others... That's like me saying I like England better than China or Germany, even though I've never been to China or Germany, because I only speak English and it's easier for me to figure out what people are saying. ??

Anyway, I don't have 360 or PSN, but if I had to choose based on the games I've seen on all services, prices and quality; I'd say 360.

Add in the costs of a hard drive and/or XBL subscription, and you'd probably have paid more than a PS3 by this point if you bought either at launch. Not to mention the costs of buying a new one after it breaks. What a silly excuse for a console.

Inflating costs of peripherals is something all of the console makers do. Doesn't anybody remember PS2 and Dreamcast memory units? Way inflated. And I have no idea which game ACCC is thinking of (nor do I think he knows-sounds like he's making it up as he goes along), but DLC content is really set by the developer, not MS.

@The Fox: Beautiful Katamari. And yes, the DLC is partially set up by the developer, but Microsoft does have a history of sticking its nose in where it doesn't belong in that regard.

As for accessory price-inflating, it's unquestionable that Microsoft does it the worst and most often. But I attribute that more to them having an evil hold over their own peripheral market (far less room for 3rd party stuff with them than with other companies), and over technology in general (Microsoft sucks). They do it because they know they can get away with it, that's really the only reason.

We're asking for a ps3 for christmas, so we'll probably be able to see what PSN is like. Yay! Now my icon is on all 5 top forums!

I've done that before. Of course, it's long over for both of us, now...hardly matters, really.

I feel fortunate enough to own games from all 3 of these online services.

XBLA has the best interface for game browsing games. PSN. Then WiiWare.
XBLA having a trial for every game is a wonderful thing something that neither PSN or WiiWare games offer. I can understand WiiWare not supporting it due to game size limitations, but PSN has no reason to not include a trial for each game.

Quality: That's a very hard thing to rate. You can find quality games on each service that stand out. WiiWare and PSN have had a lot more "Indy" games that feel completely different than the majority of the big XBLA releases. XBLA's potential saving grace for Indy feeling games are the "Community Games." There's a ton of clunkers in that group of games, but there are some really good standouts. Once XBLA games and Community have ratings it will help their service tremendously. I hope that PSN and WiiWare can follow suit with a ratings system.

I can't believe I had forgotten to mention the community games. As you said, a lot of them aren't so hot, but it's interesting to see what games people put out for the service

@TheFox
The community games are going to really make or break the indie scene on XBLA. I really look forward to the ratings system that will be implemented in August. This will help bring the higher rated and better games to the top of the mountain (hopefully). More so I hope it helps those 1-3 man teams that made these games to make some money from it.

@DXZeke: There actually IS a reason there isn't a demo for every PSN game, but it's not a very good one. Apparently, Sony charges publishers for downloads released based on file size, so free demos cost them more than they should. It's a trade-off for PSN being free, far as I can tell. I've used Arcade demos to decide I want to buy the same game on PSN before, though.

Do you need to subscribe to Xbox Live to download games from the Xbox Live Arcade? I'm considering buying an HD console and I download a lot of games but very rarely play games online.

The live leaderboards are a mile better than the wii ones too.
