@nintendoduffin: You should invest in building a gaming PC instead. For around $600 you can get all the parts you need from Newegg to build a rig capable of playing all the latest releases on high settings. Almost all major Xbox 360 and PS3 releases are available on PC, where they can be played in higher resolutions and faster framerates than their console counterparts, and all shooters benefit greatly from keyboard + mouse controls.

@accc
Amen again, rabbi. (the irony)

I also HATE to say this... But XBLA takes the cake (although it is a lie). If we were talking Wii's Virtual Console (not just WiiWare) as well, then it would be a tie.

Hey, don't go around saying that like it's irrefutable fact! I HATE keyboard/mouse controls! So damned awkward...gimmie a dual analog controller...or even Wiimote/Nunchuk combo...before that crap!

I'm not a fan of keyboard and mouse either. I don't like playing almost anything with a keyboard, which is why I'm willing to pay for otherwise free games on WiiWare: Cave Story and La Mulana.

Well another great thing about PC gaming is that it has a pretty much unlimited amount of control options available. Get a $5 bluetooth adaptor and you can use your Wii Remote + Nunchuk or Classic Controller, or you can plug in a wired Xbox 360 or Dual Shock 3 controller (or any cheap USB controller you want, there are thousands) or even get a converter to use controllers from older consoles!

@eripmav: None of the problems you stated with PSN exist for me, and some of them sound very outdated. Have you even used it in the past year since they upgraded the store?

Yes, I think you'll find that in my line of work I have to keep up to date with these matters and I'm still finding the whole shebang in the UK sucky. I hate the store, it's bloody awful. Out of choice, I made a secondary US account and I download from that far faster than the EU servers. My opinion? PSN's an arse to navigate, outdates and bloody awful to look at.

@eripmav: I have no idea what your line of work is in the first place, but whatever. I do get a lot of people judging PSN from experiences over a year old around Gamestop, so it was a fair question. It seems odd to me that the EU servers for PSN would be slow, considering that I hear internet speeds are much faster over there than they are in the US. But maybe that's the problem, if they don't have better servers over there to make up for the higher download speeds from the users. Who knows?

Not much of an arguement here: XBLA is doing the best by far right now. PSN is lacking, but it isn't without its greats. It's becoming very difficult to ignore as of late, and in my book it's currently the most appealing aspect about the PS3. Wiiware is too young to judge, but without any demoes, I don't see myself investing in it any time soon.

I think you'll find squire that in the EU, alot of the countries within it have net speeds that far exceed the US. Sweden for example and their ISP BBB. They had 100mbit and 1gbit home internet years ago:( Sniff, I'm jealous.

Still! My personal net's 20mbit cable, not overly slow as it were:)

With regards to my line of work, well I'm a freelance journo. I've written for a few mags here in Blighty, a few digital magazines (PCGZine, MMOZine etc), have run a gaming website for the last erm...gawd 11 years and of course, I do video game PR for a few indie developers. Legendo being my primary and of course, personal favourite:) THat's a bit of background info for you and to all those that are looking for a smooth talking mockney to hire, look no further!

I like the XBLA. That may be the sole reason to save money and buy me an xbox if no this christmas, maybe next year.

With that say, Wiiware is way too different to those services. XBLA and PSN are simply the same kind of games you can find on those consoles but in a digital way (not all of them of course). Wiiware was created to be a platform for developers to push the creativity and to experiment with different kind of genres and styles without risking too much. Remember that Iwata said that they created wiiware to find the "next tetris". He meant Tetris as a small, simple game that destroyed barriers between gamers and became a success. Is more for experimental games as well as niche games (like Megaman 9). That's why I like it, even if not all of its games are very good.

@eripmav: And here I am, trudging along with 5mbps, which is a pretty big deal around here. You think YOU'RE jealous?

Cave Story controls beautifully with an arcade stick or gamepad plugged into PC fyi...

I thought 1.8 megs per second, over wifi, downloaded PSN apps was the greatest thing since sliced prostitutes...didn't realize the whole rest of the universe was urinating on that download speed.

I've often thought of getting a game for my PC games, but my last one broke without warning, and for the price of a good one, I might as well buy the WiiWare versions Nicalis is putting out since they'll have added features and conveniently be with all my other games. I prefer playing on the big screen, anyway, where others can watch and we can take turns, rather than hoarding around a laptop.
