How do you think they compare? The 40mb size limits keeps wiiware from having some of the more "full" games of the other services but there have been a fair amount of good games in the relatively short time that wiiware has been around. Since Wii has the virtual console that leaves wiiware free to focus on either completely new games or new remakes instead of ports of old games, which is both good and bad as I would like to see some classics with added leaderboards and online mutliplayer.

Overall xbla seems to offer the most complete service and has some cool original games like the dishwasher and castle crashers. Has probably the most indie dev support.
Wiiware isn't too far behind and actually offers more original games and remakes that I'm interested in. Has been having more indie dev support as time has gone on so hopefully more and more original quality games coming out.
PSN seems to offer the least amount of original content as most of its better releases are also on the other services. It does have wipeout hd though.

PSN has been very lacking. Other than a few solid originals and some of the better PSone games, there's not much to it. At least the Japanese store has some great shmups. Xbox Live Arcade is fantastic, and to me easily the best of the bunch. WiiWare is not too far behind Xbox Live Arcade, and if you couple the Virtual Console into the equation, I'd take the WiiWare/VC combination over all of them.

Plain old gamer :)

PSN started off with some good niche games like everyday shooter and flow though once everyday shooter came out on PC I hadn't seen much that stands out

Looking at wiiware (wiiware world was a huge help) and xbla was a big part of my internal debate over which system to get. Hudson's wiiware support really helped as I had become a big tg 16/pc engine fan through emulation. Also other original titles like bit.trip were attractive. XBLA had some really good games put the price to enjoy them properly kinda mounted up when I looked at it. Meaning you needed an xbox with a hard drive ($300) + xbox live subscription ($50) + wireless adaptor ($100) Whereas with wii you are pretty good to go out the box and at most need an sd card at some point with is fairly cheap maybe $15. Theres some xbla games I really wish were on wiiware but I figured I could live without them and wii overall offered everything I wanted out of a console. If I saw nothing good on wiiware at all I probably would have gone with the xbox.
Actually for a while I was pretty jaded about the current generation systems overall and figured I'd just enjoy homebrew and indie games on my pc and GP2x, as well as my ps2 games. So seeing developments in the wii homebrew community also helped.

I can say PSN sucks pretty much solely because of the region coding. There are ten different regions or something, and here in Australia we have 8 PSOne originals (which all suck) and about 20 full PSP games that cost more than a retail UMD. To top it all off, they've DRM encoded most of the stuff on there not to work on Custom Firmware (even 5.50 Gen-A!!!). And it takes about an hour to set up an account.

The Wii Shop might have a crappy 40mb limit, but the Paper Mario 64 page has more great games than the entire Aussie PSN.

I don't know much about XBLA, so I can't really comment on that.

Personally I think they should all just hire Valve to make their virtual store things, Steam is pure awesomeness.

@Jbroadack:
I've found Wii homebrew to be pretty crap apart from some emulators and GeckoOS. What do you think. Also, I recently got a PSP and the homebrew information is really disorganised, so all I got is a SNES emulator, a couple of PS1 eboots, Jelly Car and Cave Story. Any homebrew recommendations? Any retail game recommendations? (Feel free to recommend games/apps, everyone else, too)

@Kim Jong-II: Region coding? PSN (at least new games) isn't region coded at all! Maybe the PS1 games are, I wouldn't know...that would suck if they are. To download games from other regions, all you do is create a PSN account linked to that region. I haven't tried it myself (no real reason for me), but a lot of people on PS3Trophies.org say it works just fine.

I like PSN. It has some good exclusive games, and I'll also take games available on both it and Live Arcade on PSN because I prefer PS3 to 360. WiiWare's okay, but there really isn't all THAT much to interest me overall. Only reason I have so many downloaded games on my Wii is the good old Virtual Console.

My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P

As a developer we do cross plattforming for all consoles. But we choose WiiWare first, because we see a lot of potential for our (J)RPG here. (more then on XBLA) The size limit is a problem yes, but with a bit game design creativity its possible to stay below 40 MB with a "more full game".
But anyway I hope we get more size next year, it's less work for us. ^^

I think that PSN must optimize their shop , like WiiWare. XBLA has the best shop system and not only because of the demos. (larger screenshots , intuitive for the users, better graphical sorting functions etc)

A new Fantasy Tactical RPG will be announced for WiiWare this month.

I bet your game is a Fantasy Tactical RPG, and it will probably be announced this month. May I ask, does that mean that it will be a bit like Fire Emblem, although maybe not as hardcore? Also, being completely honest here, do you think it will be one of the best WiiWare titles to date? And any approximate release dates?

@ Stuffgamer
Then comes the problem that I need a US address and card. And the games are not CFW freindly anyway, so I can't use the Aussie store.

I'm expecting more of an isometric Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre kind of T-RPG and he probably can't tell ya stuff like that until the games announced

But if you're able to I'd love to get some answers to Kim's questions.

I think XBLA is the best. It's got a lot of great original games, and it also has several arcade games that would do well to hit VCA one of these days (Contra, Mortal Kombat, etc.). The nearly universal online support is also a plus.

Wiiware does seem to be attracting more devs these days. I think the control opportunities and even the size limit may help. The size limit put things on a more even playing field where you aren't competing against efforts that are basically retail games with huge teams and gigs of data.

What are the good PSN exclusive games? All I can think of is wipeout hd and everyday shooter.

@Kim Jong-II
Mplayer CE is a great piece of wii homebrew that will play a large amount of files and works with network shares so I can play anything on my pc. some hi def stuff doesn't work or stutters though.
Supersonic Wii is an awesome amplitude clone that reminded me that not all music games arent boring like guitar hero, rock band, and ddr.
Super mario wars is also cool and wiispace is a cool new retro shooter.
I don't know about PSP homebrew but have noticed its disorganization which is why I preferred the gp2x (which now include gp2x wiz and pandora) community

I don't have a PS3 so I can't say anything about PSN but overall WiiWare feels better than XBLA, in part because the prices are lower and in part because the games seem better. Many interesting seeming XBLA games fall apart once I try the demo. There are a few high profile games on the service and that's it, a lot of the games are remakes of ancient games we've probably all played before. I think WiiWare offers a broader choice of interesting titles in more genres and its games tend to show off how much the Wiimote improves gaming which the 360 obviously cannot match.

Raincoat whore!

Dawnclaude

yeah the quality could be better on XBLA. Often the good games come from independent studios, not from publishers. (like Castle Crushers, The Maw, Braid etc)

Elements of Fire Emblem & Final Fantasy Tactics yes. And yes, it isnt soo hardcore like the last Fire Emlem for Wii. (I died too often ) But we will also bring some new elements in this TRPG genre. After the press news (I think in 2 weeks) we can create a Topic here and then you can ask us 1001 questions.

SupermarketZombies

Sweet I love strategy/tactical rpgs and thanks for giving a time we can expect the announcement.

But back to the topic, I've only played WiiWare and only a few games on the service, but PSN seems like it has the most potential. With the PSP Go coming out I think they'll be pumping up their shop more than WiiWare or XBLA.

Does anyone else have a problem with Xbox Live Arcade as a name for the 360s store?

Can't speak for PSN but XBLA games are way overpriced, most games charge $15 when their level of quality is in line with a $6-$10 WW game. And the games that sell for $5 or even $10 on XBLA are almost universally terrible.

@ Stuffgamer
It takes more than creating a PSN account for each region. You have to have a credit card from that region. For North America or Japan you could order a PSN card to circumvent this, fortunately, but cards from Japan are expensive to import, and I live in North America, so yes, region coding is an obstacle. But every console has it, so I don't see why we should complain about PSN for it. How I'd love to download Dark Mist from the European store, but I don't have a credit card from there.

@ Thread
I think PSN is really good though. 50 PSOne Classics by the end of the year? And quite a few good ones have come out already? Sounds great to me. And as far as originals, we have the PixelJunk series, 1942 (on 360, too), Warhawk, Burnout, Crash Commando, Comet Crash, SF2THDR (360, too), Echochrome, Wipeout, Soldner X, and soon the best one of all: Fat Princess.

That game could not look any better. I like Wii and PS3's download services about equally. XBLA just doesn't have that huge library of classics to draw from that the competition does, and the only exclusive XBLA games worth downloading are overpriced.

I never like the psn store when I had a psp, I love wiiware, and xbla is okay if you know what you are getting into. You HAVE to read the reviews first. Some interesting games are things you have never heard of. Personally I like Carcassone (you dont need a gigantic table to play anymore!) and old games like wolfenstine and monkey island (which is coming wednesday)
edit I agree that most XBLA games are waaay to overpriced

Well, that's just a total lie. These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head that are at or under $10:

Duke Nukem 3D
Doom
Every Extend Extra Extreme
Galaga Legions
Geometry Wars 1 and 2
Mega Man 9
Pac-Man Championship Edition
N+
SoulCalibur
Wolfenstein 3D
Catan
Contra
Fatal Fury Special
Metal Slug 3
Smash T.V
Samurai Shodown II
SFII Turbo
TMNT
Crystal Defenders
Rez HD

I don't have a PS3 or a 360, but I like WiiWare better because it's easy to figure out how much an amount of Nintendo Points costs.
