About time they realize the obvious. Even though I've always found the Wii to be "hardcore" no matter what game came out on the system or what any gaming site said towards it, this doesn't change my opinion on the Wii.
Just for you. "I'm just a musical prostitute, my dear." - Freddie Mercury
Yes because ze kazualz r stoopd duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!!!
Typical elitist garbage
One of the docs, for example, is shown half-naked in a cut-scene, her breasts barely covered by a towel as she talks on the phone. If that's not hardcore, I don't know what is.
That you are a pervert?
Yay another retarded feature by the IGNorants...Wii is finally Hardcore..according to who?! To them? Like if Nintendo does care...
Wii always had great games. Too bad they didn't noticed but is not that matters anymore right?
Who cares when they have a trailer for Metroid Other M which im expecting to see in NL anytime now. As to the trailer itself, Samus admits to being young and naive, no gameplay.
Except for the first paragraph (gag me)! It's a pretty good synopsis of games ign's target audience will probably enjoy on the Wii.
Although is a cleavage shot of a cartoon character really hardcore? Whatever sinks your submarine Matt...
Funny though, finally ign admits what fanboys everywhere already believe, and instead of celebrating ign's turnaround in opinion, said fanboys get upset.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
I don't think hardcore is particularly about games, consoles or anything like that. Rather, it's about attitude; you're hardcore if you play the remaining three-quarters of SMG after the ending, get all the unlockables on MKW without whining about blue shells, get your ratings off the top of the charts on Wii Sports, etc. It doesn't matter that the same games are also accessible to just about anyone out there, which is surely a good thing; rather, the best games are just what you're prepared to make out of them.

I wish the article wouldn't have been about hardcore games. It should have just been good games coming to the system. Still, it's an editorial. I can't really complain that much. @Matt_B: Well said. I feel like I know you from somewhere else though.
Best thread ever
Feel free to add me on Miiverse or PSN.

Who gives a f**k? People whine about IGN here so much I'm wondering if they didn't take a dump right on your dinner plate.
Well reading that was like Matt taking a dump on my computer screen.
Because :
A : Half the games on their were either sequels or franchise extensions of games that have already been released on Wii. Duh, much?
B: Is Max and his Marker really more hardcore than World of Goo, which was an early WW launch? I just say, huh? GO down the list, they are all like that.
This article is just stupid. Who cares? Matt is not even hardcore, I could be his sugar daddy.
4 years ago on the day the Wii was released there was one uber-hardcore game:
It's name was
Wii Sports
and that was the very very first Wii game!
Who in here is "PRO" in all 5 games and has all 15 Platinum Medals in Wii Sports??
I bet no one! It's that hardcore!! I mean it!!!
Actually both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort have some very difficult challenges. Some of the stamps in WS Resort are crazy hard to get, so both games can appeal to both audiences. I concur with Mr. SKTTR
However I also agree with IGN's article because I'm excited about the Wii's lineup this year. Great stuff and they did not even mention the 2 new Art Style games either.
I hate the term hardcore vs. casual so much. Okay use it sometimes but at least mix it up with other words so we can understand exactly what the editor means by "hardcore" and "casual". When necessary use terms like "epic" or "for the fans" with the occasional hardcore/casual thrown in. That's never been how IGN works though. Not only is it annoying by showing sides in some sort of "console war", but it's also just bad writing.
Also why does casual always have to mean crap, even to game developers and PR people? I've read articles where a publisher touts it's HD titles then when asked about Wii and it's market they say it's just for teh casualz. They never say; "We're working to deliver the best titles for all the expanded audience out there that own a Wii." When public relations mentions casual, they're really saying we're making more crappy games.
I read a recent interview with THQ and they practically sounded apologetic about it. If they just focused on releasing QUALITY games for the widest possible audience, what would there be to be apologetic about? Casual games can be fun too. Just not the broken, me-too shovelware that's lining up Wii shelves.
In the instance of this article, what I will say is that there are more games geared toward the loyal Nintendo fanbase being released this year than in the past, BUT I also consider Mario a casual title. I know most people don't but I do. It's just a GREAT casual game.
