I like the game so far but it is most definitely not without its issues. For one, Sonic's walking animation looks kind of wierd and out of place. This seems nitpicky but it really is very irritating to have slower acceleration than on the Genesis. Also, the Casino Street zone's act 2 and 3 and some VERY annoying parts to get through. Specifically, Act 2 had some very unnecessary and slow parts jumping from card to card trying not to fall to your death. This wouldn't be too big of a deal except for that acceleration problem really doesn't help when you have to frantically jump from card to card. The problem in Act 3 is with those damn cannons. They're fun at first but there are a couple parts that don't offer any guidance at all and make jumping from one cannon blindly to another a very long task (I ran out of time and died once). Other than that, the game is OK I guess. I would have felt ALOT better about it had I only spent 10 dollars. Also, Very happy they included the homing attack thing from the 3-D sonics, it fits in well.
@Token Girl It seems like reviewers are saying that the design of the levels is similar to the original Sonic games, it's not exactly the same, but, for example, Splash Hill Zone is pretty darn similar to Green Hill Zone.
Playing it now and it's, thankfully, pretty awesome. Sega got Sonic right in atmosphere, tone, and general fun, but his physics are a bit different than the Genesis games and it takes some getting used to. All in all, I'm glad I spent the 15 bucks on it.
Yeah, this game is really great overall. The physics are pretty much my only major complaint. It takes aaages to gather any momentum, and at maximum speed then you aren't actually going very fast. Sonic's rolling is pretty much useless in this game. You can go up walls at jogging pace, but as a ball you can't go anywhere. I remember in S2 Casino Zone, you could keep gaining momentum as you rolled back and forth around the U-shaped areas until you were going really fast and really high.
Also the jumping physics are odd. If you don't press anything, he stops in mid-air, which means you launch weirdly off the flippers in the casino zone. You move horizontally slightly and then are suddenly going vertically. Caught me out a few times.
After homing attacks, Sonic unfurls from his ball position and can get hit which makes no sense - even in SA and SA2 he unfurled after the homing attack but could still safely destroy enemies. Basically any time Sonic is in mid-jump he should be able to destroy enemies - it's been established throughout the series.
It seems the camera is zoomed in too much as well, sometimes the enemies you're using the homing attack on are off-screen. Sometimes there's a diagonal row of flying enemies and the next one you're aiming at is below you, half off the screen.
Hopefully they could fix some of this strange behaviour in the next episode, or in a possible update?
I know that's a bunch of complaints, but they stick out because the rest of the game is really good. I'll post later about the stuff I really like. At certain times I marvel at how wonderful the game is (the spinning cards in the casino zone are so cool), and other times I facepalm and wonder if the developers played any Sonic games at all.
@SuperMarioFan96 The levels are heavily inspired by levels from the older games. Splash Hill Zone - Green Hill Zone S1, Casino Street Zone - Casino Zone S2. I haven't played the last two zones yet but it looks like Mad Gear Zone takes a lot from Metropolis Zone S2
So far, here's my impressions: fun, but flawed. And, more annoyingly, flawed in the same way every Sonic game has been--breaking cardinal rules of platforming. There are still blind jumps and poorly placed enemies--meaning you pretty much can't beat some levels on the first try. Also, Sonic controls like a little tank. The movement just feels very off (especially during the slower platforming sections). But still, it's a very fun game. The levels all have tons of branching paths (which I love) and I can already tell this one will be a blast to speed run. There's also some really clever gameplay twists here. At 1500 points I think it's too expensive. But I wouldn't say I feel ripped off. EDIT: Also, Sonic runs significantly slower than Super Mario in this one. What gives?
After playing the game myself, I enjoyed it quite a bit. There are a few issues I had (the viewpoint is too focused on Sonic, can't see very far ahead), but overall I think it's good. I was ranked 5th on the leaderboards earlier this morning for the first level xD I'm on the Casino levels now, and they're good except it's hard to tell what is and what isn't a platform (mainly due to colors)
As for the price... I still think this is worth 1200 at most. 1500 is still pretty high for what you get. Being the Sonic fan that I am though, I think it's worth it.
Well I beat the game. It gradually gets better and better as it started out as "ok" but once I got to the last world I was like "OMG SONIC 4". It's also good to see gimmicks added to levels instead of completely new gameplay gimmicks in my Sonic game.
Not as good as the Genesis games but a great game nonetheless.

Seriously. When's the last time Sega remembered that Sonic's defining characteristic is his speed? Sonic 3? Honestly now. How the heck did they lose sight of that?
Everything's fine to me, except the jumping controls are annoying, the new double tap and lock-on kinda messes up the precision. The Labyrinth music is good but otherwise it does kinda sound cheap, but I like the old Genesis style of songcraft. Speaking of Genesis, the game is obviously gonna feel a bit slower, the Wii doens't use blast processing!

I get the feeling that they were placing emphasis on the homing attack. You see, to run faster you need to jump in the air and press 2. That will get you speeding!
It doesent get good untill the 4th zone but then it gets really good. If all of Episode 2's zones are like that one it would be a far far better game. Also id say he accelarates faster then on the genesis. I think people remember him going faster in those games then he really did. .
Is it me, or does the music kind of suck? I mean, I really REALLY like Sonic games' music, but this just sounds so weird and out of place like recent sonic games.
Why do astronauts backtrack? They forgot the Space Jump Boots.

Not really. It's cheezy, yet appropriate. Perfect for a Sonic game.
