This is an awesome game. Most of the bosses are remade versions of classic bosses and the final boss is similar to the final boss of Sonic 2.final boss is awesome BTW, but it seems easy when you've beaten it before and know what to do
The only downside, for me, is that it's so hard to get to the special stages, let alone the chaos emeralds!
What I thought would make this game bad has come true. It still feels like I'm watching the game rather than playing it, I have only gotten into Zone 2, but it's just, lets grab some popcorn and watch the screen.

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

Zone 1 is alway like that. Always. Play Zone 2, you might be surprised.
I like Sonic 4 a lot so far, but the music is disappointing. The tunes are no where near as catchy as the melodies on the Megadrive/Master System versions IMO. Looking forward to ep. 2!
Anyone else have any cramping issues playing this game? With the starting speed, acceleration, and momentum changes that Sonic has experienced, I find myself needing to use and change direction on the D-Pad more than ever before with 2D Sonic, which combined with the limited grip area on the Wiimote tends to lead to cramping in my left hand and wrist.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

No cramping for me. Of course, I use the wiimote jacket. That jacket's rubber end is comfortable when playing NES styled games.
@SuperToad: why do all the physics have to be the exact same as the old games in order for the game itself to be good??? there are hundreds of fantastic 2-D platformers that control nothing like the SEGA Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games... I don't get what the problem really is. so maybe it's not your favorite because you don't like the physics system as much as the old ones, and maybe you don't feel it's terribly faithful. that's fine. but being different, doesn't mean it's bad. a quality game is a quality game, whether you are a particular fan of it or not.

@SuperToad Someone already posted a link to that video a couple pages back.
Yes, the non-inertia based movement is weird and jarring when you first play it, but you get used to it. There are other platformers that play like that. It particularly causes problems for diagonal movement in the air caused by springs and swings and such, but it's not game-breaking. I really would have preferred Sonic's acceleration to be higher as a result of his instant stops though.
@bro2dragons Sonic games are different from other platforms in that there are many moments of playing like a ball (for example) and with great speed that make the physics matter noticeably more.
@HolyMackerel Agreed with the need for increased acceleration due to instant stops.
@Vonseux The file was removed for copyright violation. Looks like Sega wasn't very happy about it.
@HolyMackerel Nope, the sideways Wiimote is the only control scheme for the WiiWare version.

@MickeyMac I probs should of specified where I was better.
I am in Act 3 of Zone 2, and on the "watching" comment I was referring to Act 2.
I do like the Stage Selection though.

While I at least partially agree with most of that, I'd like to point out that it has the same amount of levels as Sonic 3 (plus an additional final boss section), which itself was "Episode I" in the complete game of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
By the way, how did you manage to get over 25 lives by the end of the first zone? I wasn't significantly racking up the lives until Casino Street Act 2. Also, that Labyrinth Zone boss is very challenging (and not a rehash that I know of). It must have taken me at least 15 tries to beat that one.

@zss_shadow I've been under the impression since before release that Episode 1 was going to be a throwback to the 16-bit days in a very real sense that they would be doing some direct homages to S1&2. I am also under the impression that Episode 2 will either have homages to S3&K or possibly start creating original content.
This direct homage stuff shows a lack of confidence in their work, but at least they've built something workable that the fans generally like.
The Game looks like it has alot of Sonic 1&2 in it, but not the Gameplay feel to it.
The last Boss fight was mostly the Same Boss from sonic 2, but much more easy to beat. (Since the last Boss in Sonic 2, you didn't have any Rings, and he wasn't so easy to hit)
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
I know I'm double posting, but I just realised something about the 16-bit games as I was listening to their music on Youtube. The bassines and drums are deadly, especially in S3&K. (Yeah, they really do sound reminiscent of Michael Jackson songs. <3) They should try to build the songs in S4 episode around the drums and bassline. Even the songs I didn't like as a kid, now that I listen to them I can't help but appreciate how awesome the bass and drums are. It's not really even nostalgia because I didn't like them back then.

And the songs I did like are made even better after listening to them properly through headphones rather than through crappy 90s TV speakers.
