@HolyMackerel: Looks like you liek Sonic 3& Knuckles alot, can't blam you, since it is the Best Sonic game ever Made.
This is the one Game that made me want to Get Sonic:CC on the DS, and got to Hyper Sonic, Hyper Knuckles, and Super Tails. Sonic 3& Knuckles is just a blast to play, even if it just a Cut and Dry Port to the DS. But The Music is still Awesome Flying Battery Zone Act 2 [youtube:bd8G40yhxNQ]

Even the songs I didn't like as a kid, now that I listen to them I can't help but appreciate how awesome the bass and drums are. It's not really even nostalgia because I didn't like them back then.
groovy
I have to admit this is an awesome reply to anything.
because they HAD to split the game into fractions or it couldn't be released for WiiWare.
i see many people blaming the limitations from Wiiware, but at first it was not announced to Wii ! i don't think the episodic feature has nothing to do with it if the decision was to make a huge game they could have released on disc or not release at all for the Wii (we are already receiving the exclusive Sonic Colors)
No, at first the systems weren't announced at all, and then WiiWare was announced with XBLA and PSN, and yes, you're contradictory statement that WiiWare's size limit had something to do with the episodic feature (watch those double negatives) is correct.
If they hadn't released it on Wii, there would've been a lot more complaining than there is now.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
Sonic is also more scewed towards a younger audiance (or rather, it's more "family friendly"), and since the Wii is more of a Family friendly game, and has the Virtual Console (Genny Sonics were on the top 10 list for quite a while)it's easy to assume that the Wii is where more of Sonic's fans are, or at least it could have plenty of potential there, so of course, it would have to have a version on the Wii, and as its been said, Wiiware is the more profitable option.
It ultimately feels to me like Sega couldn't decide whether they were tossing Sonic 1 and 2 in a blender or if they were trying to actually make Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment. I just ended up enjoying Sonic 4 a lot more than a lot of people did, I guess.

Okay. You're a hater. I don't know what you're trying to accomplish by this. Yes, the game's not perfect. So what? No games are, especially Sega's games.

QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
I just got Sonic 4 last night, and I am a little disappoint(ed). Not a big Sonic fan myself, the last time I played one was when Sonic 2 came out, but I can't help but feel it should have been $10. If Tails, co-op, and some creative NEW levels don't make a show in the next episode, I am done.
Maybe you should try actually replaying the game. One thing they got right like in the Genesis games is it's only worth the money despite not being a long game because you'll replay the game a lot.

Yeah, I always loved that the most about Sonic. I used to play a few levels just to restart and play them again. And most of my friends keep saying they they like Sonic 4 more and more as they replay, just to get the Emeralds. Who knows, man, maybe you'll love it once you got it fully completed?
I'm planning to replay this one. I have to, to get my money's worth.
To be honest it's lucky that I love Sonic because if it wasn't for those sentiments I think I would hate this game: it's kind of strange to play cos part of me is getting so frustrated with the annoying music and and shoddy phyics, while another part of me is being reminded of being 8 years old and playing Sonic 1 for the first time.
Mixed emotions, but overall good I suppose. Probably not worth £10. Should have waited for a Sega sale. Still it's Sonic. Yay!
I just played the XBLA demo today. First off, I see why a lot of people complain about it. I ran into pretty much every problem everyone mentioned and more, just on the first level, and it did annoy me. Most of all, I was annoyed that they used the homing attack as an excuse to put random lines of enemies in poorly chosen places, causing me to run into them before the lock-on signal gave me its fair warning. It was also more difficult than I'm used to, but that's probably just because it's the first new Sonic game that I've played since I stopped being obsessed with the series (some time after Sonic Rush came out).
With that said, I definitely enjoyed it. The level design was superb, with loads of alternate paths and speed run opportunities, and by the time I was done with the demo, I already restarted it so I could play it again! It's definitely a must-buy for me! Now I just need to figure out what else to get with it so I could meet the 2400-point mark and get my free game.
I finally beat the game. That last boss is really hard, although it's still not quite as hard as the final boss in Sonic 2 that it's based on, since you do get 3 rings this time.
Now I just need to collect the last 3 Emeralds and beat that last boss rush zone again to see the true ending with the sneak peak at Episode 2.

@WaveBoy I have a widescreen TV and it's far too zoomed in for me. Often I can barely see the next floating enemy to home in on. They really need to back up a bit with the camera.
That said it's a good game and I wouldn't turn you away from it. The last two zones are great fun and the whole game is a real throwback.
You only get about an inch or so cut off from each side on a fullscreen TV. Due to the side-scrolling nature of the game, it only really affects you in the first boss fight.
