Although, if you're going to try Sonic 3 or Sonic & Knuckles, go for the complete lock-on version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, as it combines all the levels of both games with the exclusive features of both titles (save files, co-op play, playable Tails and Knuckles) available all the way through, plus there's a special feature that's only in the lock-on version.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
I'm planning on getting the Sonic Collection for the DS since the VC versions have the 50 Hz problems. Again, it's not that I think Sonic 4 is a bad game, but the mentioned points just make me feel disappointed.

I'd have to agree with the Donkey Kong Country = bad control comments...as nice as the game(s) looked, the control was pretty crappy. Collisions in general were really, really spotty and never quite felt like they occurred when you wanted them to. Add to that slidey physics where they didn't ever belong (climbing for example) and you have a good looking but somewhat flawed platformer that gets a wee bit too much praise
I gotta admit--I got the demo for Sonic 4:1 and it was kinda fun...granted--about 2.5 total minutes of gameplay, but still kinda fun! The physics felt a bit funky, but I got comfortable with them pretty quick and the mid-air kick-start was a great help. I still think the pricing is ludicrous...but I must say I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.
The music was kinda good for the first level, but I listened to some soundtrack samples from the other stages and it's pretty rough.
Best music tracks in Sonic 4, for me, are Splash Hill Zone Act 3, Robotnik's Theme (the original version from the demo of the game, not the remixed version in the final product), Casino Street Zone Act 2, Lost Labyrinth Zone Act 1, and the Final Boss. If I didn't list one, it's because it sucks. =p The music in Sonic 4 is very much love/hate and no in-between.
As far as this whole debate on controls, yes, I was a little bit taken aback by Sonic's heavier, slower physics at first but I grew accustomed to them and it actually made for a greater challenge in some areas of the game. While it may be about 5 bucks overpriced, it's definitely the most solid game I've picked up on WiiWare since Cave Story.
Anyone else notice that revving up your spindash does nothing in Sonic 4? You can just press A once and you'll shoot off at the same speed as if you rev it 5 times.
vonseux, seriously, we get it already, you don't like Sonic 4. Now do everyone here a favour and find a different topic to moan in. But seriously, if you keep complaining at it like this we're all gonna think you secretly love the game.
No, this time he's spazzing about how Sonic can stop on a 70+ degree incline and stand there as if there was no such thing as gravity.
It is. what it is.
Get ready for Ep 2

I dunno, those seem like minor complaints to me. The collision detection isn't perfect, but you'll learn how to work it with a little practice, and at least it's not completely broken like it is in some games. Besides, I don't recall some people calling it a great game because it had great controls, just great gameplay.
Also, there's a big gameplay bonus when you collect all the Chaos Emeralds. After you do so, collect at least 50 rings during a stage and press 1.
Just to warn that this "gameplay bonus" isn't available in the first sonic game, for those who don't know about it.
Only my first paragraph was referring to the classic games. That quote is from my second paragraph, which was referring to problems he had with this game, Sonic 4. The fact that it says "press 1" should've also made that clear. Everything I've read about this game (including the Sonic 4: Episode 1 instructions themselves) indicate that the "gameplay bonus" in question exists in this episode by itself.
