The shovelware argument sticks as far as I'm concerned.
Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party and Wii: Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage (2009) had less than 75... I guess that according to reviews (which we don't have to agree with), they did release a lot of mediocre titles like you say, but not shovel-ware IMO.

Well, No More Heroes and Dawn of Discovery were developed by others and merely published by Ubisoft, but yeah, Red Steel 2 and the Rabbids games points to in-house talent for sure.
I don't really differentiate between developed and published titles, because the way I see it, if they didn't publish them, we wouldn't have seen them.. so I give them credit for believing in a project and pushing it forward. Pubished titles don't point to talent, but it shows that they support the Wii.

I wouldn't wish to imply that they were shovelware. It's just that the number of 75+ scores on Metacritic is a reasonable measure of a company's hit rate and, for so many releases over all, they've got a very low one. Anyway, Ubisoft are plainly not going for high scores with a lot of their games. Rather, they're doing things like TV quiz games, fitness games, movie spinoffs, sports minigame compilations, etc. Some of those are quite good for what they are but most of them aren't. I don't particularly blame them for that strategy; occasionally they'll get a Just Dance or a My Fitness Coach out of it, and they can afford a lot of misses in the process.
I don't trust the 75/green rate as a reasonable measure and I don't agree with them. There are fantastic games in yellow and perhaps a few in red as well. Ubisoft stands behind some good games so Red Steel 2 doesn't surprise me.

Perhaps I got off on the wrong foot with the Metacritic statistics rather than naming the most obvious culprits. Reviewers don't always get it right and there's room for a lot of individual taste. Still, do you rate Petz (any of the seven will do), Pippa Funnell's Ranch Rescue, My Word/Spanish/French Coach, The Price Is Right, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Hell's Kitchen, TV Show King Party, Telly Addicts, Imagine: Party Babyz, Sleepover Party, Cook Wars, Cosmic Family, Cranium Kabooki, Far Cry Vengeance, GT Pro Series, and so on? Perhaps some of them are good games, but when the reviewers generally dislike them, they've not sold particularly well, and they look like cheaply-made rubbish, I'm in no particular hurry to find out.
I won't dispute that Ubisoft have done some good games in the past, but behind every one of them there are four or five poor ones, and that's what's earned their reputation for shovelware.

You do realize that Imagine: Party Babyz isn't a bad game at all, right? Not as good as Red Steel 2, but a fun minigame collection nonetheless...
Best thread ever
Feel free to add me on Miiverse or PSN.

ok.. I Haven't played any of them. My Word/Spanish/French Coach sounds like it can be useful.

am i the only one who thinks this game is graphically on about the same level as Borderlands? cel-shading can look REALLY good on the Wii. it's definitely an equalizer.
i'm loving every minute of this game, and i'm assuming it just gets better!

it looks just as good as Borderlands. Many people noticed it.

one thing i've noticed is that not one reviewer has complained about having frequently calibrate the remote, which suggests that red steel's staff really did fix that issue just like they said they would. has anyone here who's played it already say how the calibration works? hearing that you no longer have to point at the screen and reset the remote every 5 minutes would be the best possible thing i could hear about this game.
awesome. the problem with wii sports resort was that in addition to laying the remote flat for a moment, you had to point at the screen and press A to calibrate the remote before every single round. often even in between fights you'd have to point at the screen and press the D pad to recenter the remote again if you were swinging hard enough. if red steel 2 doesn't make you do that, i'm very happy
You're always pointing at the screen to aim, so recalibrating isn't something you have to do very often unless you put the controller down for long periods of time.
I bought the game, and I love it! Lots of good, fast, sword slashing fun! I do have a few very small peves 1. When you're on a ledge the only way to get down is by ladder, you can't jump 2. Everytime you enter another area you have to wait about 30 seconds for it to load and the peves that the nintendo life review mentioned
I think it's a brilliant game and a great foundation to make a sequal on.
From what I've played the short comings are as follows:-
Lack of varities and character in the enemies. There's no classic FAT and slow enemies, lack of people from did ethnic groups, no female enemies and the larger, often more difficult enemies tend to be defeated by the exact same move i.e. doge around them to stab/slash them in the back and the main bosses look very similar to one another.
No more heroes 1 & 2 had amazing dialogue and enemies, Red Steel 2 could learn something from those titles.
My favour western movies always had people falling off things, very little rooftop shootings would like to be able to shoot baddies and watch them fall.
On a similar note perhaps have enemies that you can only shoot and being killed by being shot through windows, or perhaps even jump out of windows.
Lack of weapons how about adding a sniper rifle, molotov cocktail, throwing daggers, rocket launcher, flame thrower etc..,
On easy mode the AI of the enemies isn't flawed but they don't seem to have any real tactic other than run straight at you. Just like western movies, they should do the classic duck behind things and have shootouts.
Hope they make a Red Steel 3, the graphics/artwork/theme is excellent however I can't explain clearly why I don't like the design of the main character hmmm
Thats my thoughts so far, oh I will add enlarged maps would be useful so you could see not just the small section but the area as a whole.
I got this(because Fragile Dreams still hasn't got into shops) and it's good fun so far but I think the enemies do a tad bit too much damage, not much but some hits do way too much and the gunner's kick is unbalanced in my opinion.
Oddly the motion seems to go a bit weird for me on the safecracking parts, only on the safecracking parts as well.

@Oregano- be sure to hold the wiimote up to your ear like a telephone and listen to the speaker, when you rotate it at the right spot you will here a click, that is when you press "A"

I agree, where it is novel when you first crack a safe it just gets frustrating especially as they don't contain that much money really. I just keep rotate like mad and keep pressing 'A' rapidly which bizarrely works better than doing it slowly and methodically.

It randomly flicks from left to right and gos to the opposite side when I'm not rotating it that way, as if I'm just waggling it when I'm making small precise movements.

Hold it against your ear like a phone. I made the mistake of holding it in front of me, like the switch system. It doesn't work that way.
Absolutely loving RS2, to the point where I have a mild form of RSI now. Seriously, don't play it too much, it'll kill your wrist/hand. Anyway, absolutely arcade goodness. First good motion sword fighter, and what a stunner it is. Only halfway through but it seems like it's worth the 85% it's been getting. Combat is deep and works flawlessly.
