Topic: New system updates incoming? (Wii and DSi)

I just tried updating my Wii (just because, I dunno, boredom or something. I'm already on the latest version), and instead of the usual (connects, finds, tells you there's no download available), it told me it couldn't connect to the server and threw me out. Puzzled, I went to the Wii Shop Channel. Which apparantly is "under maintenance." A little concerned that my internet was borked, I tried the Internet Channel, which still worked, and my online games still connect.
Then I went to my DSi and did the same. Exactly the same result on that - unable to connect to server for System Update, and the DSi Shop "undergoing maintenance."

Is there a new update on the way for the two consoles? If there is, it seems to involve the Shop of both... new features, maybe? Rather than just the "behind-the-scenes enhancements" of the previous update.

Hey, this just happened to me too. I tried to access the Wii Shop Channel and I got a message saying that it is currently undergoing maintenance. I also tried the DSi Shop and got the same message. I wonder if the server is simply down or what. Maybe this is that surprise that I have been hearing about or maybe it's nothing at all. Hmm...

So it's affecting US players too? Very strange. Anyone got a Japanese Wii/DSi, see if it's happening over there too?

I heard about this and thought it was just Nintendo prepping the shop channel for the Doc Louis's Punch-Out thing but now that it seems to be happening on the DSi shop too leads me to think maybe it's something more exciting. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Sudden thought: When is that Wii Ambassador thing set to launch? Maybe they're updating for that.
EDIT: But, then again, that doesn't explain the DSi doing the same. ...DSi Ambassador, anyone?

Again, I shall say, hhmmm. Hope it sorts itself out tonight, I'd planned on downloading Spaceballs.

As much as I'd like for this to turn into some big announcement, chances are that they're simply doing some maintenance on their primary servers, much like when YouTube goes down for an hour or two every now and then.

That's Europe only.

I wish it were international though. NoA can learn a thing or two from NoE.

That was just for Wii, the DSi Shop/Update is also down for maintenance.

It could be that suprise the VP of NOA was referring to on IGN's Nintendo Minute.

Since it's involving both Wii an DSi, could it be that video thing that Japan has had forever?
EDIT: my Japanese DSi is doing the same thing. Hmmm.....last time all regions went down we got the SD channel. Let's hope whatever this is is something just as awesome!! I'm willing to bet that this is no simple maintainance.

Can you get a link to that for me? I haven't read that article yet.
