I just couldn't get into Neutopia II. It felt really dated and unpolished. The battle system was awkward and it just felt overall like a poor man's Zelda clone.

I love ALttP and still do but Neutopia II just didn't do anything for me. I can kinda understand what DK vs KK is feeling but towards a different game.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Have you tried the first Neutopia? Despite the sequel being mostly the same with a few upgrades, a lot of fans, myself included, prefer the original. If you hated every minute of N2, probably a waste of time though. I enjoyed both.

You should try it standing up.

Nah I wasn't surprised at your comment I was saying wow because I didn't realize there were actually a good amount of people who don't like ALTTP and just some of the comments about it being too hard and lack of innovation. That just makes no sense to me because the game blew me away back in the day and is still so enjoyable to me now. Also the game wasn't really that difficult to me. I found it to be a lot easier than many games on the SNES.

Oh and you think I should try standing up? I don''t know old habits die hard. Maybe sitting down while doing your business is really overrated?

Link to the Past was my 1st (or 2nd) Zelda game. It gave me an unforgetable experience, but I like LA a bit more due to its charm. I admit that the Dark World had some nasty dungeons where the enemies dealt a lot of damage, but I think every gamer should finish LTTP once.

I have proud memories of playing ALttP with two friends. We regulary phoned the Nintendo Hotline when we got stuck somewhere. Such a fun. We even recorded the final battle + the happy end on video tape! It was epic for us back then...

Never played the first Neutopia. I figured the second game would be better than the first.

And how far did you get into ALttP, DK vs KK? You really need to approach it from a retro point of view. Expecting a 1991 game to hold up against a game released six or seven years later isn't really the right way to play SNES games. If you think it lacks innovation or good graphics compared to Ocarina of Time then you would be right. Nintendo really outdid themselves when they created the N64 game. But that doesn't mean ALttP doesn't have its charms still. Even NES Zelda still has its charms despite it being worlds apart from Nintendo's masterpiece.

As far as a tutorial goes, just what were you wanting the game to tutor you in? There is no targeting, rolling or any special moves. Just you and a Sword. You get to practice using it during the Hyrule Castle stage so I don't really know what more could have been added. And as others have said, it came from a time where tutorials were unheard of and anything the gamer needed to know could be found in the instuction booklet or be worked out for themselves. The first stage in games tends to be quite easy anyway to ease you in to how the game works.

**shrugs** what do you want me to do? talking with the kids and rescuing the cat in TP was boring as hell.

ROFL. The answer to this question is obviously NO. This tread is just Flame Bait.

my favorite Zelda game ever. Unlike OOT, which -- while fun -- I can't bring myself to play again because the graphics are so terrible, the stylized 2D graphics of LTTP are a real treat to look at. As for the gameplay, like many others have said, the younger generation seems to just be spoiled with everything laid out and tutorials and such. I liked having to work to figure things out in games. It also seemed like back then, in the pre-internet days, every really difficult challenge in a game was passed along via word of mouth in classrooms, like the Konami code, or even those NBA Jam player codes when I was in Jr. High. Now if anyone gets stuck they just try for 2 minutes and then go to gamefaqs.

Indeed it was. There was a lot of padding in Twilight Princess that it turned me off. Previous games may be more linear (although they're not really, I love to break the sequence and get weapons and items from later dungeons and areas before you're supposed to even though nothing is stopping you from doing so) but adding silly mini quests to make the game longer was not the answer. Especially if the game refuses to allow you to progress until you completed a silly mini quest.

My favorite Zelda game overall has got to be Link's Awakening. LTTP may look better and last longer but Link's Awakening's charms appeal to me more.

Even though I grew up with the snes, I never played this game until I got it on VC. Since I understand that it was released before OoT, I don't see it as a letdown. It came after Zelda II, so it's the opposite of a letdown. I love the game!

I have heard that a lot. I never played that game ever. I may give it a try.

The map screen may be small (16 x 16 screens) but its a lot more compact while still being a relatively big game (especially for a b&w GB game). it just means you don't have to travel too long to reach the next objective. Each area is wonderfully unique which helps put it alongside the SNES game rather than feeling like a cut-down version. You can breeze through the game in a few hours if you know exactly what you're doing but finding out exactly what you need to do to be able to do that does take a long while.

Just don't expect it to be equal to Ocarina of Time or anything. It is still an early nineties Game Boy game after all. But a very good one, second only to Pokemon in GB adventure games. Although while the original Pokemon may feel dated now, Link's Awakening certainly doesn't.

One of the best games ever made.

And bear in mind that "first-level tutorials" weren't the norm back then. That wouldn't happen for another generation or two. Faulting it for not having one is almost like faulting it for not offering Wii Speak support or something!

Yeah they liked the player to figure it out for themselves back then. I know what he's saying with the "sloppy combat", because that's what I thought at first, too. It's not sloppy, though, it just takes a lot more skill than OoT. It takes a lot of getting used to since there's not a targeting system to automatically reposition you in front of the enemy.

A Link to the Past truly is one of the greatest games of all time. I do hope that once you get used to the game's controls and such that you learn to appreciate it (Paper Mario is all kinds of awesome, though! Glad you like it!)

Bass X0: I got past the Hyrule Castle part. After I rescued Zelda, I traveled to a town on the left. Then a character marked a spot on my map, and I'm assuming that's the next dungeon. Is that enough time to get an overall impression of the game? I approached the game expecting great things from it, since many of my friends have told me that LttP is their favorite Zelda game in the series. Unfortunately, I couldn't help but comparing it to Ocarina of Time when I was playing it. I know, I know, I should appreciate it for the things it did amazingly well (at least for the time it was released) like the detailed environments, the great music, and the vast scope of the entire game. I have already gotten used to the auto-targeting of OoT though, and truthfully, the combat is my biggest problem. The knights in the castle just kept running at me, and I had to time my attack just right to get one hit. There's no strategy to it, really. I'm going to give it another try tomorrow, and I'll see if the game gets any better as it goes along.

The knights? If I remember correctly, as long as you're far enough away, you just walk perpendicular to their path.

Wait wait, you haven't even gotten past what is effectively the prologue and you're already having trouble? I'm sorry, but it's not a problem with the game. You have only really fought the goombas of Hyrule so far. The combat isn't sloppy, your playing is. I don't think the average player would have any trouble with this at all. Just swing to the right of the enemy's sword. No timing involved. You can just run past them, anyway. I never fight a single knight there. It's a waste of time.
