Honestly, Super Mario Bros. 2. I love that game. I love picking up and chucking turnips and radishes at my enemies. And I love the main level theme of this game. People hate on Mario 2, but it's my fav, even though it wasn't even supposed to be a Mario game.
Super Mario Galaxy? No, it wasn't boring or tiresome, even when I had to get the same 120 stars all over again with Luigi.
Super Mario Galaxy 2? Yes, most of the levels got old after the first or second star, and I almost completely lost interest with the Green Stars, despite them being different from the first 120.

I agree. SMG was really amazing aesthetics-wise, but the gameplay was just so boring. None of the levels are memorable. :/

The Special World made up for it though. Those levels were amazing. Plus Galaxy 2 had actual boss levels (and better bosses, IMO).
Honey Hive Galaxy was pretty memorable, or at least it was for me. Then there's that beautiful tropical floating penguin infested resort 'Beach Bowl Galaxy' and Loopdy Loop galaxy which were both pretty great. I guess i was just thrown off by the fact that SMG just didn't feel 'mario' enough, i loved that it was doing a lot of new things but it just didn't really tickle my nostalgiac funny bone, plus like i mentioned earlier it was a bit too slow paced. SMG2 on the other hand looks more like my cup of awesome tetris-tea.
The most memorable levels in Mario Galaxy 1 were: FreezeFlame Galaxy Beach Bowl Galaxy Dusty Dune Galaxy Gusty Garden Galaxy Space Junk Galaxy (I absolutely love the calming piano music)
The most memorable levels in Mario Galaxy 2 were: Fluffy Bluff Galaxy Haunty Halls Galaxy Boo Moon Galaxy Throwback Galaxy Flip-Swap Galaxy Beat Block Galaxy Flip-Out Galaxy (the Cosmic Mario mission is one of the hardest in the game)
Is a draw between Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong (GB), Mario's Super Picross, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year-Door, and Super Paper Mario. (Excluded sports, party and kart titles).

I have a feeling this is easily going to be my favorite Mario 3D platformer of all timey' Unless Super Mario 3D Land magically steals the spot light hehe.
Trust me it will not steal the spotlight. Although I like it it only ranks somewhere in the middle of the pack for me.
As for my favorite I will have to go with mario 64! To me it still has great game play and the best level design in any mario game! To be totally honest though I perfer banjo kazooie!!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
I still can't decide weather i prefer Mario 64 to Galaxy.....If anything i much prefered the Castle over Galaxy's Hub World, plus Mario 64's controls were quicker, more zippity and the analog sensitivity and complexity of mario's movements in 64 haven't been replicated in a 3D mario since. Mario 64 was 'true' 3D platforming controls and it seems that Nintendo Abandoned those fine precise controls....Maybe it's because the N64 stick was just sturdier or the actual way the game was designed to show off the analog stick controls during the time.
Galaxy however doesn't have that at all, it's sloppy in comparison and doesn't have those subtle movements....Sure a bit of it's there, but they're much harder to pull off and they don't work nearly as well and it seems the level design structure isn't even built around that....In Mario 64 you had to slowly walk on thin pillars and the like which was a challenge in itself and totaly showcased what a true 3D felt like in the gaming world...
But what Galaxy 'does' have are much more interesting and creative environments, beautiful graphics(that's obviously a Mondo Gecko-given) better music, it's much more magical and whimsical, and the imagination and creatiity destroys Mario 64's genericness on all levels, blame it on the N64's first 3D generation graphics i guess.
I like them both for different reasons. And you know, I haven't played Sunshine for more than 20 minutes as i just never got into it for some crazy reason during the GCN days sadly. Plus, Super Mario 3D Land is still in it's wrapping which i'll give a go whenever i get my 3DS back from Nintendo.
Super Mario 3D Land has more in common with the Galaxy games. 3D Land uses the same graphics engine, sound effects, jumping physics, controls, etc. The analog controls aren't as subtle as they were in Super Mario 64. You walk with the analog stick, and hold a button down to run. The controls actually feel more "digital", very similar to the old 2D games.
