Super Mario 3D Land isn't in my top 5 but it's definitely a game worth mentioning. Definitely my favorite handheld Mario. Next to NSMB and Super Mario Bros. 3 for the GBA.

The pacing of it feels like a speedrun and I love how it teaches you early on that you weren't gonna be able to hoard 1ups or rely on power ups to help you through the game, it'll take real skills.
Only thing I feel could've been better implemented were the occasional sections where you needed to be carried by the wind as well as the occasional springboard sequence, otherwise it's an absolutely perfect game and a testament to the hardcore...and the secret levels, man those were an absolute nightmare, but I love it!
It's awesome!

*Pfft..., that game is a sham to the Mario series... only peons would consider this Super Mario Bros. 2 ...it's the one that started the "Alls we gotta do is slap some Mario on it and it'll sell!" ...you peasants! Luckily for you Doki Doki Panic turned out to be a fine game, but make no mistake... in the history books, the ones that actually matter, it isn't Super Mario Bros. 2 (the game the was too difficult for us stoopid Merrcans) at all, it's...
I really enjoyed Super Mario World 2(Yoshi's Island) more than the others, though I still think they are all great. Super Mario World comes at a close second.
As for the 3D games, I've only played the 64 DS remake and 3D land, so it will be hard for me to decide since I missed out.
