It is not close enough. Not even by a large margin. Nothing will ever come close to the awfulness of 2008 and you are only fooling yourself for thinking otherwise

Now with Zelda U being a no-show, the only consolation for me would be revealing what Retro has been working on (don't care what it is) or F-Zero U-or-whatever (F-Zero being more a of a possibility than a Wave Race or 1080ยบ Snowboarding game).

It's not as simple as making an announcement though. They need to be working on the games, otherwise we just get a repeat of that panic Direct from January 2013, where most of the stuff announced that day is still not out. If stuff wasn't going to be ready for E3 last week, then there's not much time at all to scramble something together now. We'll see announcements for sure, but I'm betting it was all stuff that was planned already, not a response to Zelda. It's just over 2 months til E3, I'm pretty sure they've finalised what they're showing there already.
Retro probably finished up Tropical Freeze in late 2013, so you'd think they should have something to show by now, even if it probably won't be coming out this year. In fact, I'm pretty sure back at the VGX awards in December 13, they kept stressing they have more than one team at Retro, so whatever the new project is, has probably already had at least a couple of years work on it.

1) Nintendo to make a new deal with Kawasaki and make more Wave Race and other sports/racing titles.
2) Nintendo to announce further Indie support and show the amazing games they're getting from the Indie devs in the near future.
3) Nintendo to announce the next Punch-Out!!! title.
4) Nintendo to fill the last five months of the year for Wii U (would love for Zelda to be at the end of that, but we know it's unlikely, at this point. Not impossible, but unlikely. Also, 3DS could get two or three titles, but I don't think Nintendo stands to lose much from not focusing on it, this year.)
5) Nintendo to COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY AVOID bringing up Project NX or anything regarding it. I know they said we'd hear about it NEXT YEAR, but Nintendo has to hold true to this. Any hint that it may come out next year could throw their already-fragile status into further chaos.
Also, I feel the need to point out that a common request--Metroid Prime 4--is EXTREMELY unlikely. Not just because we've heard nothing of Metroid this whole generation, but also because Retro has stated outright that Prime is done. If they make a new FPS Metroid, it won't be Prime. Not to mention that Retro seemed pretty well captivated by Donkey Kong. I'm almost really hoping they announce a new 3D DK, but that seems unlikely. (Maybe for launch on the next Nintendo system and Retro can do something small to bide their time.)

I don't care if they continue the storyline. I just want more of Prime's gameplay.
We've had enough Donkey Kong this gen, if they must do a 3D game, they can do it on NX. Metroid is overdue for a new entry (frankly, they should've done Prime before Tropical Freeze because there's much more they could do with Prime).

While I don't disagree that DK has his rep for this generation and Metroid needs the attention more (granted, there's exactly one DK game on Wii U, so it's not like he's rivaling Mario in over-representation), there are other dev teams that could tackle Metroid (and could it please not be one that's well known for objectifying female characters?) What we want is a Metroid that puts an emphasis on exploration with a background FPS base mechanic set. (Basically what Prime was.) I'm not saying we shouldn't have another Prime-like game, just pointing out that there will be no Prime 4.
1) Nintendo announce Vanquish 2 from Platinum games as an exclusive
2) New first person Metroid info
3) Dillon action/adventure title for WiiU (full scale platformer no just TD)
4) Sin & Punishment 3
5) Another new, larger IP for either system (though I'd also be happy with a small eShop title)
I won't be sad if none of them happen though, I know they're unlikely and I know whatever they show I'll likely be excited anyway
I also hope it's another digital event with the Treehouse stuff because that was just brilliant.
That they show something off in whatever kind of presentation they do and that it's focused on games.
I don't ask for the heavens in a Nintendo Direct like a lot of us on NL do because I know I won't get it...and a lot of us ask for the heavens, get the cosmos, and are still upset because one specific game wasn't announced/teased/releasedinstantlyaftertheshow.
As long as we get a presentation (either a stage show, like old times, or a premade video, like last year), I'll be happy. I'll reserve my judgement on the actual show AFTER I've seen it.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
I feel we're long overdue a proper Wario Land game. Master of Disguise was a nice idea that sort of worked and Shake Dimension was cool but Warioland 4 was the best.
I feel I've had my fill of WarioWare with Game & Wario, I guess the 3DS could use one but I think they need to take a break and let the novelty build itself back up.
