It took 6 weeks for Splatoon to outnumber a Smash U week, although Smash U was released during a different period of the year and dropped pretty much after week 5.
Splatoon consistently sold better than MK8 after week 3, being released at the identical time of year.
I think it would be a good idea if they added a leaderboard to the game to increase competition and maybe allow us to customize our messages on the game so we can better communicate.
Hurrah for the August 6th update, only about 10 days away. I assumed it would be mid Aug before they told us it was delayed into early Sept. Since I don't have a lot of friends I'm most excited for the level 50 rank cap. Give me something to shoot for as I'm stuck in mid B- range, 4 1/2 hours to go up from 30 to 50 points. I think I was C+ 70 during that time once. I don't even care about new weapons or gear, I just want to see more rank levels. Is a player level 20 or really level 30, or 40, or 50? If they keep the level ranking similar to what they had 50 is going to be a long way away. 1-10 was a couple of days, 11-16 took another week, 17-20 took me another couple of weeks. At that pace I may never hit 50. Going to be a boatload of points from 49 to 50. Going to see if I can find the ranking chart somewhere to see if they kept up the algorithm which I liked. (The amiibo ranking was worthless in SSBU, 4 hours to level 50, sometimes more than 1 level per match.)
So the big question is - did the system keep up w/ our playtime after 20? If so some of us may already be at level 50 w/o even knowing it and we'll just be really surprised on Aug 6th.
Played the other night on Camp Triggerfish where I had some of my best kdr ever - 18-4, 17-5, 9-0, 8-0. Problem was those were intermingled w/ getting creamed on bluefin depot every match. .52 gal deco giveth and taketh away. My first 3 matches on bluefin depot I tried the orange Zap gun, never again.
I matched up well w/ the japanese poll, except Warehouse being the best level. Holy crud, I hate that place, there's nothing to it, it's practically no better than the weapon testing area. I do understand the dislike for bluefin depot, I almost never win on that level, but at least it's interesting. Really needs two splat zones though, but tower control was good. But yeah, it's weird.
Voice chat is almost necessary to make team play a competitive sport. Just days after getting Spaltoon I thought how cool watching 2 actual teams square off would be, a shooter tournament they could have on Saturday morning cartoon time for kids. But I don't want to watch teams square off w/o voice chat, that wouldn't make any sense. If they are going to let us have 1v4 battles and choose our maps, and private areas and tournaments and all of that, those friends areas should get vice chat. I'm ok w/ no voice chat in open play.
Here's how I feel about voice chat - how many of you have used your Wii U for vid chat w/ other players in this thread?
Someday we'll find it

There are a lot of good additions here! Very glad to see Private matches outside of Ranked. Only thing I'm still disappointed about is no update for local multiplayer. My wife has been wanting to join me since the start instead of having to take turns or just play Battle Dojo.

The update sounds great. If only I had more friends with Splatoon...
S rank sounds nice but I'll be forever stuck in B+; because I think that's actually what skill level I am. Although here's hoping all those A+ people rank up to S and stop appearing in my B+ matches (those jumping blaster loons are so annoying).

So unless I'm reading it wrong, which is a possibility, it appears they are expanding it. I wouldn't mind them in the future adding more to and modifying maps in the game. I heard some people complain about how Arowana Mall being in need of some changes, so that's a possibility.
Edit: Maybe they'll change it in Splat Zones so it has two instead of one.
I actually think those changes might work well. Don't see the point of removing the trees but it's not a big deal either way.
One reason might be that the tree was ambiguous regarding ink coverage in Turf War, since the top of the tree was seen on the map from above while the ground below it wasn't.
Does look like they're expanding it. I'm happy about it since it was almost automatic loses in ranked if your whole team got splatted (i.e. aced) in splat zones. The expansion should allow more opportunities to comeback and not just get splatted every time you thought about entering the middle.
