You forget that there is no single digit players in ranked. Now if you play a turf war you see all kinds of levels mixed. The game doesnt care if you're ranked 50 or 1 when it coems to turf and that's where any new person will be stuck till level 10 anyways. You can't tell me a level 10 and under player especially a child won't get frustrated really fast in turf wars.
It has been known for a while that the game matches based on play styles in turf and not rank number.
My bad, of course I meant Turf War. I'm telling you, it won't match you up against lvl 50 players if you're in the single digit lvl. But of course it also depends on what time you are playing, maybe at that time there aren't many single digit lvl players around. But it still will most likely match you with lvl 20 and 30 players. Because I really haven't seen any single digit players for a long time now. But of course, if there aren't even enough lvl 20 and 30 players, it will look for the next best thing. And yeah, the play style also matters. Still it seems like the matchmaking got improved in the last months.
Ehm, why should anyone get frustrated by this? Turf War is really simple and I'm pretty sure for a newbie it will already be fun just to ink the ground. I mean, if 30 year old people have fun just inking the ground at the shooting range, it sure as hell will be fun for children. Besides, even if you lose, you still win (XP, points for your gear and money). There are no losers in Turf War. It's perfect for children (and I doubt that ranked battles are suited for children anyway). No frustration potential whatsoever in my opinion. Now compare that to any other shooter out there and tell me which one of those is less frustrating for a newbie and/or kid?
If you are level 10 then you're already experienced enough to start with ranked battles. So really, I don't see the point of an extra lobby for players with lvl 1-9. They will be fine by playing the singleplayer + Turf War to get the basic mechanics.
@Jazzer94: How long ago was that? After all, they made a lot of changes to the matchmaking in several updates. I was talking about my most recent experiences with Turf War. I'm lvl45 and (almost?) never see people in the single digits. Of course there can be exceptions now and then, but that's really seldom and hasn't happened in the last months. So when a lvl7 player might get matched with high lvl players, it will be only for one match. Unless of course, you stay in the same lobby and then it's your own fault.
@Jazzer94: No I mean I want a specific set of gear to go with the new weapon I want to use in ranked, so I'll have to burn a bunch of sea snails for it. I just did that for my charger. Sorry it wasn't clear.

And what's the point in keeping money in Splatoon? I always spend anything I have, because making money in Splatoon doesn't really take long and everything you might want costs usually ~10000, on rare occasions 20000, 30000 for rerolls and some of Spyke's items and 50000 on Spyke's best items. The latter almost never occur.
I practically have all the old gear, because I always bought anything that could even remotely come in handy one day (even if the didn't fit my current strategy). It was actually a bit sad before the last content update. Every time I went to the shops there were six items that I already had. Only on rare occasions there were some that I didn't have and those are items with useless abilities (in my opinion at least).
It took me some time to realize that you can do rerolls without sea snails, I think I was already at lvl27 or so. Since then, I spend 80-90% of my money on rerolls, because what else is there to spend it on? I feel like I already got the most interesting pieces of new gear and all the weapons I need. I even plan my gaming sessions in 30000p blocks.
Right now I have 48 weapons, 55 hats, 89 clothes and 55 shoes. How many pieces of gear and weapons do you guys have?
Some of you guys are so lucky! I need a lot of super sea snails... but I only have 10. XD I decided on which gear I want to use for my Slosher, so I need all the re-rolls I can get! I have quite a bit of money, but don't want to spend it all... hope I get lucky with the re-rolls!
Wish you luck! And nice playing with/against you. I was just leveling some of the gear that I never use in Turf War and after changing my hat, I thought I'd look if anyone was playing TW. Then I had to leave again to change the hat again since it only had one star and was levelled pretty quickly.

That's the way it's supposed to work. If you're good, you should be matched with your playing style, not with your numerical level.

lvl 7 takes a few hours to get to making it a flawed system given that getting to lvl 50 will take 100+ hours.
Money is virtually useless to me now, other than rerolls. I've bought all the weapons, and 90% of the gear, and I still have 600k left...But that's what... 20 Rerolls? Plus the 16 Snails I have left.

I might make it to S Rank today. It's been a good road atm. I'm on 70 points, and I'm winning 2 for every 1 I lose, after a bad start that had me down to 0 points...
