Yeah they needed the 3DS version to have unique features to entice people to double dip. At least there's the option of buying the characters on Wii U only, though considering the game on 3DS is as cheap as £25 at some retailers, I think that dropping £40 on it and the Season Pass is good value for money.
@Grumblevolcano: @Tsurii: Thank you for explaining in a way regular people can understand. Their explanation is horribly confusing.
So just characters and weapons? No Fairy mode, Wind Waker campaign(!) or Adventure Maps? They're not getting my money then. I refuse to buy unless Wii U gets the same things as 3DS.
Even if you get the game on 3DS and use the code for Wii U, you'll still only get the characters.
@whodatninja: I can understand no My Fairy as that would break the game and I could see issues if the Adventure maps came though both that and no Wind Waker and Linkle campaigns are annoying (don't care about My Fairy).
Regarding the Adventure maps situation, remember that there were levels where you were locked to certain characters for example every square where getting A rank got you a new or higher leveled weapon was locked to the owner of the weapon. Well if there were squares in the new Adventure maps that were locked to Twili Midna, Young Link or Tingle then to play that content you'd have to buy the other season pass so you had those characters.
As soon as I beat the main story in the wiiu game, and I tried to play the adventure maps and noticed I'd need to grind and level up, I said to myself "no this will take too much time, I won't do this on the wiiu"... For that reason, I never bought any of the DLC there, since it was just more adventure maps.
And then the 3DS version was announced. I can totally get away with spending 500 hours on a portable game.
So I'm glad I decided to wait. I'd probably be a bit mad too if I had decided to use that amount of time on the original game. I'll just play the 3DS version, buy the dlc there, and forget I have the other game.
ANYWAY, Four new characters from portable games! I can't wait to see who they use. Please let Linebeck be one.
Edit: though I wonder what do they mean with "new adventure battle scenario", is that code for "new stage" or just means "battles with new rules"?
I think some of the dlcs (original batch included) should've included new stages. That's ultimately just as important as characters to keep things fresh, if one thinks about it, and they could've given even more chances for fanservice.
I agree about Twilight Princess, Majora's Mask and Wind Waker. Link's Awakening and ALBW wouldn't work well because of the structure of the original games. I don't remember much about Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks so I can't comment.
Oh well, they have artistic licence to create appealing maps based on 2D areas.
In the case of the DS games, they're also similarly designed to the 2D games, but there's wind waker-esque models for the islands/stations used in the overword maps they can use as inspiration.
Well that's a good option for everyone, but I'm still getting the 3DS game and the DLC. I can't turn down an Adventure map of one of the greatest Zelda games of all time...Link's Awakening

I conveniently started a new file on PH shortly after it came out in VC in Europe. I have been playing it casually since then, so it's pretty fresh in my memory.
I hope linebeck is not too much of a safe choice (because then they may go for something else), because I'd love it if he was the character, but there's also many other characters they could use...

Anyway, people seem to be way too confused about the DLC situation. More than it really deserves. So let's explain it here, just in case any of those confused users happens to read this:
(I won't list prices, since not all the regions have released that information...)
The DLC will come in four waves distributed around the year. The season passes will give you access to it as soon as the packs are released, but you can also get the packs individually. (note that the season pass ends up being cheaper than buying them individually).
There will be three passes (of which you only need one). One only for the 3ds, one only for the WiiU and one super pass that includes both.
Dlc for 3DS: characters, weapons, adventure maps and fairy clothes (maybe costumes for the other characters too).
Dlc for WiiU: characters and weapons.
Also offered for WiiU: Legends Character pack, which comes with all the new characters and weapons that come with the 3DS game. (This is also included for free with all copies of the 3DS game)
The super pass does not come with the "legends character pack" because if you're buying the dlc for both systems then you already have that.
The dlc for WiiU-only is cheaper in general, because it's only characters and weapons.

As for why is the content so limited in the WiiU, keep in mind that the 3DS game has mechanics, content and features that the WiiU game does not. Retro fitting them into the WiiU game would probably be too much of a waste of resources for what's an old game that doesn't generate many new sales.
Characters alone are probably easier to port over (something tells me they first make them for the big sytem, then port them over to the 3DS ) , and have better chances of producing them some income, since they're what attracts most people.
My main idea is that the new stages (which the new adventure maps definitely use) would be expensive to remake in HD for the WiiU. The maps also probably feature new rewards and fairy-related items that the WiiU lacks. And without significant rewards, then what's the point.
I just got all the skulltulas in the Wii U version (had a few left to collect in the Termina map) and the unlockable stages for the Twilight and Termina map skulltulas are absolutely fantastic. I really hope the ones for Wind Waker, Link's Awakening, Phantom Hourglass / Spirit Tracks and A Link Between Worlds in Legends are just as great.
I got the last missing skulltulas a few days ago.I have all weapons but two on the Termina map (8-bit fairy and 8-bit compass),i've given up on getting them since the missions are really hard.
@Randomname19: You managed to get to the compass level? I'm struggling with the Zelda rapier level where you have to defeat 1000 enemies before the rogue forces do. 8-bit fairy was pretty easy to do with a level 255 Link but the level to unlock it was hell as Agitha and Wizzro are weak.
@Grumblevolcano: And you managed to complete the Agitha/Wrizzo mission to unlock the fairy level?
I have B rank on the compass level.
I don't remember at all the rapier level.I will play it again and see if i can give you tips.
EDIT I saw and remembered how i beat it.I sued a potion that constantly filled the yellow bar, dodged a lot and attacked mostly when the weak point appeaared.I also moved away when the grublins and Dark Darunias converted to try and make them scatter.
@Randomname19: I can give some tips for the Agitha/Wizzro one.
1. Use Wizzro with preferably badge collection maxed out, at least around level 100 with a 5 star magical ring (~110 if you don't have the legendary skill).
2. Use the Majora's Mask item on the square before playing (it'll max out your magic and SP gauges), this helps with the toughest requirement for A rank (under 15 minutes completion time).
3. The BBBY combo (Zelda controls) helps with clearing out the weak grunts that occupy keeps.
4. Darkness weapons like Wizzro's Ring are strong against light weapons like Link's swords so the BBBBY combo drains Link's health fast. Using your special also helps against Link and the Lizalfos but be wary of time.
5. Spamming the main B combo (B repeatedly until he's about to send a horizontal wave of magic) makes Volga and King Dodongo pushovers but make sure you dodge to avoid attacks that they do.
6. The boss key is in West Rockface Keep so capture that before trying to take Central Keep and defeat Link.
The rest is mainly luck as King Dodongo can ruin so many A ranks for time by refusing to do the fireball attack that makes him vulnerable.
