Hyrule Warriors 1.8.0 update is now available, this is the same one as Japan got in January which allows you to get the Legends characters/weapons in Wii U.

other than "to get you to buy the 3DS version," can someone tell me why the Wii U version won't get new DLC Adventure Mode Maps?

it seems really unfair to me.

Because selling DLC maps again suddenly after a year without DLC for a spinoff Zelda game on Wii U is potentially a failure to make a profit?

I say potentially only because I don't know how expensive it would be to put that stuff on Wii U.

I'm relieved personally. Despite it being an incredible consumption of my time just from the base game/free dlc alone, I'm still tempted to download some of the ones already on Wii U. I need to play other games sometime!

Either there's new Adventure/Challenge map types which rely on the change character mechanics or the concept of having to buy a season pass to make content in another season pass playable makes adding the maps for Wii U complicated.

The new mechanics is a fair point, that I didn't consider.
I'm just really sad that I won't be able to play the Link's Awakening (my favorite Zelda game) adventure map on the Wii U.

The season pass details confirm the same release months for the packs as Japan (Master Wind Waker in May, Link's Awakening in July, Phantom Hourglass / Spirit Tracks in September, A Link Between Worlds in November).

Hm, the ticket with the codes I got for pre downloading the game said they would be available today by 9 am. But they're still not usable.

Bummer, I wanted to try the new characters for a bit on the wiiu.

I got an email from Nintendo UK Online Store saying the DLC codes have been delayed.

Never did I think that a game I bought in September of 2014 would be getting DLC in November of 2016. This game just doesn't end.

I sure do wish Legends had some sort of save sharing with the console version, though. I'd love to get at those handheld-themed adventure maps and the new story stuff, but I just don't want to repeat dozens of hours of gameplay (in 240p, no less). Seeing as Capcom managed save sharing for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate back in 2013, I don't see any excuse for Nintendo excluding it.

That said, I'm still stoked about the new characters — I have plenty of Wii U adventure maps to clear, so I'll get plenty of use out of 'em.

@DarthNocturnal: It sorta makes a mockery out of the fact that Smash has only ever had Link (the protagonist) or alternates of him, Zelda (the titular character), Sheik her alter-ego/alias/transformation, and Ganondorf (the main antagonist) thought its 16 year history and 4 games.

I will never not be salty about that, and I didn't even need Hyrule Warriors to showcase how fun some of the other side characters are to play as. I know it's supposed to be all-stars mainly in Smash but come on... Ghirahim would've been perfect.

@DarthNocturnal, we've got what, four characters that haven't been revealed yet? One from Link's Awakening, one from the DS duo and two from A Link Between Worlds? I'm stoked to see who they all are, but you are right that the possibilities for playable characters are pretty vast — maybe we'll see a sequel or further expansion on the next platform. For now, I'm taking a "love what you've got" mentality, because we've got a lot.

@TheLastLugia, I tend to agree. Especially given the vast amount of swordsmen we got from Fire Emblem. I know it's a bit of a dead horse, but love or hate the enormous FE roster, it's a bit baffling that there are more FE characters than Zelda characters on a Nintendo all-stars roster. But, same as my thoughts on the HW roster, it's hard to hate on the Smash 4 roster too much.

Ugh, the pre purchased app launcher says "you can play now!" (not really, but something to that effect) but when I try to use it, it simply says it's not available yet.

Edit: it's up now! Eeeeeee!

I'll try the codes.

Edit: they work!

Now I'll see if the season pass can be bought.

Edit: nope.

Edit: I think they said Medli would be available along with the dlc. Wether that means tomorrow or with the first batch, idk.

Ok, I played a good hour or two of this and I'm really happy with it. I did the first legend level and played a bit of adventure to unlock and test toon Link (he's fun, though his grunts get annoying).

Thanks to the character switching mechanic the battles are a lot more interesting and manageable, it feels like a new game even. It also looks and plays perfectly on my n3DS, it's like it's not even a tiny screen.

Now, if only I could figure out how to unlock the my fairy thing.

So is this where we're going to be discussing Legends? In the Wii U forum? I was looking all over the place for a Legends topic in the proper section before I finally decided to check here.

Anyway.

I've been playing the game since it went live, and I love it. The character switching mechanic is extremely useful and helps cut down on long stretches of running across the maps and preventing the feeling of being stretched too thin like in the original. It took me a minute to adjust to the 30 fps but it's not a big deal. I'm playing on a N3DS but I decded to leave the 3D off anyway because it helps improve the fps. That makes this the only other game besides pokemon that I prefer to play in 2D.

I've knocked out a good portion of single player and thanks to @Meowpheel, I ventured into Adventure Mode and unlocked Toon Link. I never actually played Adventure Mode in the Wii U version because it seemed kind of daunting, and it was just as daunting at first here, but my desire to unlock Toon Link overpowered that and let me take the time to learn all the rules and stuff, so thanks for that, Morph.

How do we unlock all the fun costumes like the Wii U version? I mean, they were DLC on the Wii U but they come with the game in Legends so I'm unsure where to look. Don't tell me EVERYTHING is in Adventure Mode?

@Meowpheel: The actual legend mode missions aren't identical too. Legend mode in Legends introduces concepts first introduced in the Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask Wii U adventure maps like Keep Saboteurs/Reclaimers (present in the keep capturing competition squares in the Termina map). As for My Fairy, you have to find fairies first for it to unlock which is only present on certain Adventure mode squares. You'll want to play through Legend mode completely first before tackling Adventure mode as certain regions are blocked off until you've played a certain Legend mode mission.

@Grumblevolcano: I see a fairy listed as a reward for a very early adventure battle.. but no luck.

@Detective_TeeJay: hah, thanks. about adventure map, from what I hear all the maps have been restructured so you have to progress through them in order.

The first map contains only new characters and level 1 weapons, the second one has level 2 weapons, etc.

So don't worry too much, it seems completing at least the first map will be a much more manageable objective this time around.

@Meowpheel: It's in the treasure section though so you'll find it by exploring the stage, not by completing the stage or getting a certain rank.
