@ThanosReXXX But the latest consoles are running Unity UPATCHED to have full 60FPS as the disc version is with uncapped frame-rate. That is what Digital Foundry are saying and testing. First they had it with PS4 Pro and One X and now with Series X (as the Series S is digital-only) and PS5.

Actually it is one of the ways people prefer to play it on Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.

On the original hardware it is dreadful.

Yes there are famous glitches but the game is "finish-able".

BruceCM

I only see the Directors Cut for that on Steam, though, @NEStalgia.... Is the original anywhere else, then?

@BruceCM Unfortunately, no, that's the one thing I've been hoping for for BC for ages. It was released on WiiU, 360, PS3, and PC. Obviously PS3 and WiiU are dead-end platforms and the games aren't playable anywhere. On XB, the OG game is BC supported and available digitally, but the Director's Cut was never made available digitally, and the 360 store page just takes you to the Smart Glass companion app. BC does work if you have the physical disc, but otherwise, it's not available anymore. I'd hoped after FFXIII they'd fix that, but nope. I think they kind of backed away from the DC after launching it. It was supposed to be a WiiU exclusive, but then WiiU bombed before it launched and they announced it was coming to everything. Which was incredibly stupid considering they launched the "Director's Cut" of a 360/PS3 game......on 360 and PS3...again.... It was like the forerunner to DQXI where PS4 gets the both better and worse version of a PS4 game as ported from the port to Nintendo.

BruceCM

Well, the Switch version of DQXI had a LOT of work done to it to get the 2D option, @NEStalgia ... So, in that case, it makes sense & you can now buy either version on Steam
But you were suggesting getting the non DC Human Revolution for PC, so where can you get it?

@BruceCM I'm not sure if non-PC is still available or not, but Ralizah already has it. it was only a question of whether to upgrade or not.

For console DC is definitively better looking and fixes some broken gameplay. But for PC, the OG version looked better than it did on the old consoles, and the DC ends up being a visual downgrade since it's a straight up WiiU port. (But it does fix that broken gameplay - and does undo the admittedly harshly overdone gold filter.)

NEStalgia

BruceCM

Well, I'm wondering where I'd get the non DC version for PC, since I can't find it on Steam.... @NEStalgia

Ralizah

@NEStalgia Thanks for the detailed response. So I should be good if I'm not opting for 100% stealth run, I guess, since I should be equipped to handle bosses.

And yeah, I bought this game a long time ago. When the base version was still being sold on Steam. That version has since been delisted. Gold filter doesn't bother me, so I'll opt for the "spending no money" route.

NEStalgia

@BruceCM that's so bizarre. Only the original, and not DC is available on Xbox. And it seems only DC and not original is available on PC..... And it's of course not available at all on PlayStation since it's trapped on ps3.

I keep hoping they'll remaster human revolution and remake original dx. Both games are legends and deserve it. HR has weak gfx that could use a touchup. Original has amazing story, but the graphics are terrible and the gameplay is dated (you know it's an old game when there are mutant bog creatures in the sewers for no real narrative reason.)

Fwiw though, are you planning to play a combat build or stealth build? Ralizah is going to play combat build so the better pc gfx of the og is probably better. If you're planning to do stealth get DC. The gfx downgrade is worth it for boss battles you don't have to spec your character just to cheese bosses. I missed most of the cool stealth abilities i actually wanted just to dump all my praxis into typhoon and armor for bosses. OG is seriously broken for stealth play which is arguably the most popular play style.

NEStalgia

NEStalgia

@Ralizah heh, yeah, if you're putting points into combat skills you'll be ok with the bosses, and the gold filter becomes the only real improvement. The dlcs both take place as stand alone content, so integrating them into the game isn't that important.

The bosses are still kind of annoying even in dc. Just less impossible. I fought the one boss jumping up and down on a locker in the corner to keep my hitbox out of range and get one shot at a time in. . A combat build would just play like any fps game.

I swear compared to the 360 version of the original I'm tempted to boot wiiu someday for dc though. I can't get myself to do combat. Been stealthing DX for 20 years! Back then the entire NPC cast consisted of Minecraft Steve in different clothing.

NMS was a different issue. The game disappointed people by not being as great or featureful game as they made people expect. But it was far from a broken mess. It worked fine, it just was boring. (Still is, if you ask me... )

It's not that different really. False advertising in both cases. In one case, they falsely advertised the features, in the other case they falsely advertised the performance.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

BruceCM

Well, I got the collection on offer, so I played them all, @NEStalgia .... Would be interesting to play the other version!

@NEStalgia @Zuljaras Guys, guys, I was just kidding...

Zuljaras

@ThanosReXXX But you were right. The outrage was real and justified. Nowadays the developers and the management have the luxury of the INTERNET

Nowadays developers would NOT manage if they are in the 90s where the consoles did not support day one patches.

Grumblevolcano

@Zuljaras I'd say Game Pass is the bigger luxury. Even with the internet a game still has to prove itself that after the mess it can have a good experience in the end with patches of which plenty of games don't recover from. Meanwhile Game Pass can even save even the biggest of flops like Fallout 76.

I'm pretty sure in 2021 we'll see Cyberpunk on Game Pass.

Zuljaras

@Grumblevolcano I mean that the Internet allows the companies to deliver broken garbage. That is all.

It is a great benefit ofc but still because of the luxury of day one patches they make almost impossible deadlines. For me that is pretty disgusting but that is it. It will get worse and worse with the bigger games.

gcunit

It's bound to get worse with pre-order numbers as high as they were. While the internet can make it seem like the whole world is in uproar, I'd be surprised to hear that more than 10% of those pre-orders get refunded. And kerching - the whole process of massively hyping a game and releasing it in whatever state it finds itself pays off again.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

ThanosReXXX

@Zuljaras Well, to be totally honest: plenty of games were buggy or incomplete back then as well, or needed patching. Levels freezing, graphical glitches, translation errors etc, etc. Games were just a lot simpler and smaller, obviously.

But the difference is that the bugs stayed right where they were, because we didn't have any options to update or "day 1" patch them...

'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'

Zuljaras

@ThanosReXXX and still those games are fully playable and people love them. I do not think they could say the same about some day one games this generation.

But yeah they are much more complex. But back in the day they did not have engines like Unreal, Unity and Game Maker. They had to do their own engines and deal with the limitations.

Today they can just power trough with the beefy specs.

The biggest reason for crappy day one modern games is still the dealines set by the management.

Also can you even imagine back in the day to have a Mega Drive game that needs to be recalled from shops?

Instant death! Now they can lie and patch a bad game to something playable which is both a positive and negative thing.

ThanosReXXX

@Zuljaras I do seem to recall a certain practically unplayable and mid-level freezing E.T. game on the Atari 2600...
