I will say that as someone who got all the trophies bar the online multiplayer ones in Far Cry 4, which goes to show that I had once enjoyed my time with it, Horizon Zero Dawn is not only ten times better, but it makes going back to Far Cry 4 surprisingly difficult due to the comparatively clunky movement and combat.
They share some similarities, mostly the open world-ish nature of both games as well as the protagonist main weapon being a bow and arrow... but they couldn't be anymore different to play. I hope you reconsider buying the game when it is cheaper in the foreseeable future, at the very least.
Sorry to hear that you have the occasional problem with your PlayStation 4 though. I must admit that playing the likes of DOOM and Uncharted 4 on my OG PlayStation 4 made the hardware go into some kind of super-overdrive mode where the fans couldn't spin fast enough to keep the console from melting!
Anyway, have fun with Yooka-Laylee. I shall hopefully hop aboard sooner than later.
@Peek-a-boo Far Cry 4 put me to sleep. Frequently. I was admittedly tired from long nights, but when my friend took over even in action heavy sections or PLOT, I fell asleep. A game has never done that.
I've heard Horizon is better. When the drop comes on that price tag sure thing I'll see if I have the time.
It's not as bad as my girlfriend's OG PS3. Want a jet engine? But its loud. Makes me appreciate Switch even more. That thing is eerily quiet.
But yeah, I'll keep you guys updated on Yooka-Laylee!

@NEStalgia Golden Abyss was the most gimmicky thing I've ever played in my life. One particularly memorable part of the game made me hold the Vita up to a bright light to see through some parchment in the game... only, my bulbs aren't as bright as normal light bulbs, so I had to hunt through the house for brighter bulbs to get the game to let me play past that point. Nintendo has come up with some insane gimmicks from time to time, but never anything that inconvenienced me to that degree.
Also, you beat the final boss by swiping the screen with your fingers, from what I recall. Forget that noise.
I thought Tearaway made really clever use of the back touchscreen, but, you know, that doesn't change the fact that, more often than not, it actively intrudes with gameplay in certain games because I keep accidentally hitting it when I don't mean to.
Even the PS4's hardware design isn't great in some respects. For example, I can never remember which tiny sliver of a button is power and which ejects a disc. I've turned off my console by accident so many times. I know I'm not the only person who has this problem, either.

@BLP_Software I have to ask, what was the game that came out last April that you couldn't put down for a couple of weeks?
I'm thinking either Dark Souls III or Ratchet & Clank, given that they were the two highest profile releases this time last year. I thoroughly enjoyed playing them both!
@Peek-a-boo PSSSH! I got all the trophies in Far Cry 4. Even the online ones (which I never do), if that tells you how much I enjoyed it. It's not memorable or creative at all, but good lord is it addictive and entertaining. It's video game as junk food.

@BLP_Software Far Cry got weird after Ubisoft got the rights. The first one on PC was by Crytek and was the "better" game for showing of the engine than Crysis IMO. But when Ubi got it it got weird (yes, weirder than feral zombie things...) I'm not a fan despite the popularity. Fun thing with PS3 Fat was it overheated. A lot. I had one of those booster fan things on it....want loud? THAT was loud.
@Ralizah LOL I forgot the parchment thing. Yeah it was so loaded with gimmicks, it wasn't a bad game really, but it was just weird that they took Uncharted to make this above-handheld price game to show as a hardware tech demo for crazy gimmicks Nintendo had already done. And that was still one of Vita's best games until P4G landed. I don't remember the final boss though (memorable game it was, apparently...) was it really swipe based? Eww! Please tell me it used the front and back touch pads!
I loved Tearaway on the Vita....but it was 1: too short by far, and 2, had the worst framerate of any game I've ever played short of Oblivion and had such bad input lag I wasn't even sure if I was in control of it half the time.
PS4 hardware, those power buttons....I have the opposite. I go to turn it off and I instead sleep it because I didn't hold it JUST right, and then I have to boot it up all over again just to shut it down right. Sleep runs the fan 24/7 and I seldom use my PS4 in contrast to 3DS/WiiU/Switch so it would just fill the heatsink with dust for no reason. And often (the console is seated where I have to kind of go by feel) I end up ejecting the disc instead of turning it off while something is blocking the disc slot. But that's not as bad as the PS button being soft to press and convex. The sheer number of times I've turned the PS4 on while putting the controller on the charger because that button gets hit drives me nuts. Then I have to go turn on the TV again so I can shut it down properly again (or fuss with the capacitive button.) A few times I've bee sitting around and hear some clicking sound in the room. Took a day or to to figure out the sound was the PS4, powered on, trying actively to eject its disc with something blocking the eject. It was probably running like that for a month because "something" turned on the power and I had no idea. I'm amazed it's not broken so it's made better than it looks but I've developed a phobia of accidentally turning it on
That and the 3 hour battery life controller. How does it have even less battery life than a Gamepad?
@NEStalgia Sounds like you have the same problem as BLP, my DS4 lasts around 8-10 hours. I do wish a future DS4 controller comes with USB-C, I'd get that in a heartbeat.
I only played it because I was hankering for a FPS of sorts (BioShock Infinite on the Xbox 360 was the last one I had played, about eighteen months prior) and the game was not only half price on the PlayStation store, it also included the season pass that had the dumb-but-fun 'Valley of the Yetis' add-on/expansion.
It was one of those came-along-at-the-right-time kind of games.
Saying that, I couldn't go back (to the Himalayas) now though, seeing as it is mechanically clunky nowadays.
Good fun at the time!
@BLP_Software Thought so. I had a blast with Ratchet & Clank. I don't think we have seen the last of them!
@Octane 8-10?! EIGHT TO TEN?! Wooooowwww! That's like a mythical unicorn PS4!
My console and second controller were launch day preorders, so I'm going to guess there was a revision at some point to fix the laughing stock of a controller. I can't get a full day out of it. If I play in the morning I have to throw it on the charger for several hours before I can play again. And if I forget to charge after playing I'll be trapped with my short USB cable twisted over the chair to get it to reach the next day!
I have one of those charging stands I can dock them into which is convenient (moreso than micro USB) but I hate those batteries! Maybe if Scorpio forces Pro prices down enough I'll check out a used Pro just to get the new controllers with a battery that lasts. Can't justify replacing the controller alone now that PS4 is my second console.
You have no idea how much I loathe CryENGINE after working with it. Never again. NEVER!.
You have a low battery DS4 too? I asked some people, and they said the Joy-Con gets great mileage for that size battery and all the tech inside it. They don't get how the DS4 with a much larger battery and less going on gets so little.
@Peek-a-boo Ratchet and Clank. Yes. Jak and Daxter, Sly, Spyro, all dead. So...its 2/5 right when Crash comes out. And that upsets me.

@BLP_Software 2 Joy-Cons are about the same as a DS4 in terms of buttons and all. The batteries are also half that of a DS4, but there's not 'less' going on in a DS4 from an energy consumption point of view (there can't be really, it's not literally magic!). Rumble and IR camera don't use battery when they're not on. The DS4 has a LED that's always on (at least, I don't think you can turn it off without opening the controller itself). I'm not exactly sure how the pressure sensors inside the touch-pad work, whether they always eat some battery life, or only when activated. Then there's the signal strength. Those Joy-Cons also save battery life by decreasing the signal strength. I think the LED on the DS4 and the lower signal strength of the Joy-Cons explains the difference.
You can make your DS4 last an entire day if you're willing to go through the trouble. Replace the battery with something twice the size, 1800-2000 mAh, and disable the LED when you've opened your controller anyway. That should result in around 40 hours of battery life.
@BLP_Software Well, turning off the LED bar roughly doubles the battery life, so that eats up a fairly big chunk of it. If you could turn it off, I think the expected battery life would be more than reasonable for a controller with a 1000 mAh battery.
Honestly? My next intentional purchase is Crash bandicoot if only out of nostalgia, to see if they cock it up and because well, I liked Crash. preferred Spyro, but Crash was great. Except the original. Screw that game into the deepest pits of hell.
I preferred Spyro too. I think Spyro is the only series that's ever been as good as Mario in 3D platforming.
They desperately need to remaster that original trilogy.
I also want to hear from one of the developers how on earth they made those games run on the PS1. Which had 2MB RAM if I remember rightly.
