@TheFrenchiestFry Well, Persona Q2 was also developed in such a way that it wouldn't work properly on a single-screen device.

Currently Playing: Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition

TheFrenchiestFry

@Ralizah Well yeah that too but the general assumption to me is that they don't want differing platforms between regions

I believe the only time that happened was P4AU in Japan because it was PS3 exclusive there, which is actually smart because Xbox just doesn't jive with the Japanese audience, especially Atlus fans. They learned that the hard way with SMT Nine

I’m a few hours into Persona 2 Original Sin (at the cd store) and the battle system really wasn’t engaging me. I’d try then fail to talk to a demon then get attacked. Then go through the motions killing them all off. I wasn’t unlocking any new demons or fusion spells so it was getting frustrating and repetitive. Especially when you are getting lost with a high encounter rate and no speed up option.

But now I’ve realised it’s much more engaging to focus on one demon to talk to and pick off the rest first. It requires more strategy and doesn’t matter as much if I fail in talking to them. I’m also starting to get a few tarot cards. So it’s more fun having the variety of new demons to level and unlock spells for.

@JoeDiddley yeah the battle system is incredibly slow and clunky, but its def worth trudging through for the story. imo eternal punishment handles it a lot smoother thankfully

I attempted Persona 1 and everything was so clunky and messy. I played on ePSXe, on my phone, I gave up because I did not understand the system of befriending Personas. I have too many cards but Ygor refuses to fuse them ( the option was not there).

I playing Persona 4 Golden, but now I not in the mood in playing on Very Hard anymore. I'm in the middle of Rise's dungeon. It's strange because I love the battle in SMT and Etrian Odyssey Expert. I played so many times Persona Q. I don't know what is happening with me right now, why I don't enjoy playing Persona 4. Maybe I don't like the party members not being customizable like in Persona Q.

And when there is no one to rescue, when the game prioritizes spend time with your confidants, I get bored fast.

Hot take: for me, Devil Survivor 2 and Record breaker is better than Persona 4 Golden.

Edit: and I played Persona 3. Not FES version. And I love it. I dunno what's happening, really

@JoeDiddley Yeah typically when I go for Negotiating with demons I usually aim for specific ones that either will help me collect cards for a specific Arcana and Persona I want to summon, or some of them like Hoenir and Satyr, who'll give you lots of rewards like great HP/SP restoration items and lots of yen

Today I finally realized that in Persona 3 and 4 if you do an All Out Attack and it kills the opposing Shadow a skull forms in the smoke cloud as the finishing visual

I actually feel stupid for not noticing that before and I've owned P3P for 10 freaking years

So apparently SMT III Nocturne HD Remaster is offically able to pre-order digitally in Japan on either that region's PlayStation Store or the Switch eShop for anyone that's interested. Of course Dante is being sold seperately but that's another can of worms

I do wish they went the Persona route for DLC in one instance because I'd kill for an SMT BGM music set like what they do with the mainline and spinoff Persona games

I'm sure Atlus will think something to monetize on cosmetics. They are not that terrible compare to EA or Activision Blizzard, but they always invented some ways to gain more money than the base game.

@Alex90 It's a case by case basis for me. I can excuse paid DLC for this because it's a remaster of a game that is 18 years old, as long as it's mostly cosmetics or music DLC to homage the other MegaTen games

Practices like Catherine Full Body charging for the multiplayer characters as well as Joker on PS4, or Persona 5 Royal charging for Kasumi costumes and the P3/4 Protagonist fights, are examples I find inexcusable because they're basically enhanced re-releases that are already adding major amounts of content to the game and are considered definitive editions of their respective games, considering they came out fairly soon after the original games' releases. The idea of adding ounces of content and locking major parts of it behind a paywall just comes off as super scummy to me, but surprisingly a lot of people don't even have much of a problem with it

Don’t Atlus usually do nice limited edition physical releases? Although, saying that, every Atlus physical release is practically a limited edition, because the print runs are so small.

I’m really enjoying Apocalypse. I was always going to get SMT V, but now a preorder seems inevitable. And Nocturne is looking more appealing by the day.

TheFrenchiestFry

@Krull Actually back in like the mid-2000s they were basically CD Projekt Red with the ***** they crammed into their standard editions

Like I remember for the original Persona 3 the game came with the art book and 2-disc soundtrack CD, and pre-orders for Persona 3 Portable at select retailers like EB Games and Gamestop came with Junpei's hat as a pre-order bonus

SMT Nocturne HD Remaster's limited edition in Japan is getting special cover art, a 2-disc soundtrack and a freaking aroma lamp

I also remember Persona 5 Scramble getting a pretty sweet looking limited edition as well

Have they said if Nocturne will get a standard physical edition on the Switch?

Give me a heads-up if you're going to send a request please.

TheFrenchiestFry

@Losermagnet yeah the box art for both the PS4 and Switch versions are already out there

It's literally just the PS2 box art with the closeup on the right side of Demi-Fiend but GOLD

Some people on the internet don't like the remaster's box art, but I do like it. It reminds me of a time when I played a *****-ton of Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess in December/2011. It was during my summer break from university. The box art gold? The wii remote gold too? Anyone?

@Slowdive idk if anything Nocturne's box art looks like peak 2000s video game art the more I think about it. Atlus has done better with stuff during that time like Devil Survivor, Persona 3 & 4 and the Raidou games

I was hoping they'd update it with nicer art considering all of Atlus' re-releases and remasters at this point get special box art that build on the original releases

About 5 days ago, SEGA of Japan officially registered the "Persona 5 Strikers" trademark they filed back in December 2019. While this doesn't confirm that an announcement for P5S' English release is imminent, this is concrete proof that they're already working on it to some extent. I'd even say they probably got the English VAs to record their dialogue from home similarly to what happened with P5A's English dub that recently released

I'm expecting Strikers will release mid-to-late 2021, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a trailer before 2020 is done.

Currently Playing: Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition

TheFrenchiestFry

@Ralizah I expect at least a teaser for the game in late 2020 but yeah I wouldn't expect it any earlier than mid 2021, just to distance it a bit from SMT Nocturne HD's release since if they came out relatively around the same time, there's no doubt in my mind Persona would recieve more of the attention because Persona, spin-off or otherwise

I also still fully expect Kasumi or Akechi as DLC characters

@TheFrenchiestFry Both SMT games need to launch at least a few weeks away from any other major release on Switch. I'm remembering how DQXI S never got its time to shine because it launched alongside a Zelda remake and about 20 other notable games.
