@Ryu_Niiyama: The two projects are for exterior work on my house and may get pretty pricey; I've just started collecting estimates since the weather has finally been halfway decent for the last couple of weeks.

Ironically the nature of some games on the Switch is making me consider a few digital purchases over physical, but I still plan to be a physical guru for the most part. I rarely travel with my systems (not much public transport here). When I do, I typically just take a few games. I'll likely get Octopath Traveler physically minus any possible DLC.

I really don't blame you for wanting to downsize on the physical side, though. That's quite a lot to haul around!

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

@Tyranexx Ouch, best of luck on the housing projects. Here's to a cheap but well done job.

I'm the same. I drive every where but my backlog (and my brain) is such that I am random in what I play when not doing a sit down session on my own time. So I like to have everything so I can inch along. I also got into the habit because a good friend of mine used to game on 3ds so I would bring everything because I never knew what he wanted to play.

Here's hoping to multiple endings on Ocotopath rather than the same ending told from a different starting point. This could get Chrono Trigger ambitious.

@JaxonH Even at 20% off I just can't bring myself to spend that much money on a game. Ill stick with $50 with tax.

@Spoony_Tech
I only buy special editions of a few, select choice games. Xenoblade 2. Monster Hunter World. Zelda BotW. And Octopath Traveller. Maybe Ni No Kuni 2... we'll see.

It's gotta be tippity top shelf. And something I have a personal passion for. Not just your average run of the mill "good game"

Per-ordered. Can't wait

It looks so nice, but not sure if it's worth double the amount of just the game.

I'll probably wait and then feel all bad when it's sold out everywhere.

If you don't want the Collector edition just get the standard version. You have two choice but don't come blaming when you can't find the Collector or Collector sells far beyond the retail price.

Will definitely buy it physically, just in doubt about shelling out an extra 50 bucks for the Collector's Edition. And no, I wouldn't come blame, I would just sulk by myself.

@Ryu_Niiyama: Thanks! Octopath Traveler definitely looks like a fun RPG, definitely on my wish list.

Speaking of Chrono Trigger, that's hopefully coming up in the backlog rotation somewhat soon....

It won't be 50 bucks extra anymore once it runs out and you have Scalpers to buy from.

My question is: who the heck thinks this is a brand-new approach to an RPG? That seems weird that anyone would even think that. It never struck me as revolutionary.

Good background info, though. Thanks.

No one does, really. At least I never have seen anyone claim it is.
In fact, the concept has been constantly compared to the Romancing Saga series.
Combat is clearly from Final Fantasy: Four Heroes of Light with elements from Bravely Default.

It's better just to see it as an evolution of refining mechanics from fairly recent turn-based JRPG. Rather than something completely new.

@Seacliff Now that you mention it, I really loved Final Fantasy: Four Heroes of Light.I just recently got Bravely Default and that's due to my huge backlog of RPG titles... I really enjoyed the Octopath Demo though.

I'll pass on the special edition, unless it is really one of fave series I'm trying to pass on accumulating so much stuff I'm not going to use after I give them some glances.

The game looks wonderful though, so the standard edition is a must, eventually, when Xenoblade stops taking over my life and my free time.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

(There's some info on the 2 other characters shown in the latest Nintendo Direct, as well as:

"Gameplay

– By defeating enemies in battle you earn JP (job points) separate from experience gain
– By using JP, the player can master abilities specific to the job
– Apart from the basic job each character has, they can equip a “battle job”
– This changes stats according to the equipment worn, increases the number of weapons that can be equipped, and lets the character master the abilities of that job
– All abilities that are unlocked are available on that characters
– Switching job also changes the look of the characters")

Some more details and screenshots! I really can't wait for this game aaaaaaaa

Played the demo, loved it, still playing through Bravely Default - which is made by the same team behind this game, and I'm still loving it. I admire all the steps the team is taking for this game to be great. I expect this game to be a masterpiece, or at least great things from it.

Good... good
Now play Dragon Quest

@darkfenrir I'm thrilled to hear about the job points, since those weren't present in the demo if I recall correctly. I was afraid of the combat getting a bit repetitive throughout the game, but thankfully that doesn't seem to be the case since JP will allow for character upgrades, customization, and strategy. Sounds a bit like the Esper system from FF6, which I think is pretty awesome.
Also, those new screenshots look absolutely gorgeous, especially those new pirate enemies.
My hype is UNBENDING!!

Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.

darkfenrir

@ilikeike Yup! So things seems to be far more customizable than what we get in the demo (which is... normal XD)

Really can't wait for the game! July can't come soon enough.

Yeah, I enjoyed the demo and how it delivers on that FF charm that I wanted for decades since the SNES games (haven't played the PSX ones, but FFX was pretty decent...). Octopath Traveler was quite a ride from the demo.

...but everything I've seen so far has kept me on fence. Sure, it has the classical Job System and fine presentation, but until the unseen content impresses me, I'll be holding onto my $60 in the meantime...unless if it was $30.

Doubt it'll be $30...

Besides if even each of the character only has around 8~ hours of story content, that's already 64 hours combined...

Although then again, I have no idea what they are doing with the 8 MC, so I'm very hopeful! So far the gameplay looks great and I love the aesthetics so I'm willing to drop $60 for it (helped that I'm a huge sucker for JRPG)
