Three Houses is a little rough and pixelated, but that's not even close to being unplayable to me. I can deal with imperfect visuals. As long as the framerate is playable and the resolution isn't consistently sub-720p, a game is playable on the tv.

I also use m-classic which, while minor, does give games an extra little oomph of smoothness and less jaggies. I actually started noticing jaggies more in handheld for FE than on the TV.

So after I captured the Mastodon, BOTW has gone back to feeling pretty aimless again. All three of the remaining DBs are puzzles in themselves in order to how to get to them. One requires you to pass through great expanses of cold, I assume I can do this by just stocking up on loads of elixirs beforehand but it is so ***** tedious. Another requires you to cross around a volcano where you just set on fire and die almost instantly. Again, I assume some sort of elixir is the answer but again it just feels really ***** tedious. Finally, there is some no boys allowed town I have to find someone to sneak me in, but it is all set in a desert so again I am having to stock up and chain elixirs and it is just again, real tedious. Think I’m gonna just call it for a while. SMT V is almost here, it might be a good way to cleanse the palette so I can go back and face the tedium again.

@Pizzamorg Spoiler alert: Link can change clothes. If it's cold he can put on warm clothes; if it's hot he can put on cool/protective clothes. Where does one normally acquire clothes?

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

I do have a shirt which is apparently supposed to improve my cold resistance, but it doesn’t do anything. I have so far only found two clothes shops in the game and none offer greater amounts of cold resistance/heat resistance. I think three are like just armour sets, one is for sneak. Nothing else discovered yet.

You just gotta play the game. You'll figure it out. I never used an elixir my entire playthrough, except for one time to get far enough up the volcano path I could get some heat armor.

The game is all about figuring out environmental puzzles. There's nothing wrong with elixirs. Plenty of ppl cook meals and elixirs and use them great advantage. Shouldn't be tedious- just eat them and you're good. And there will be times you'll want to do that. Electric enemies and lightning, probably good time to drink an electric elixir. But by no means is that the only way to do something. As was already mentioned, gear provides immunity against environmental effects. That's the key. Sometimes you just have to travel the path a bit and figure out where to obtain it.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is so good.

It looks amazing in native resolution on the OLED Switch. It's got HD rumble, it's widescreen (which I didn't realize but the other versions weren't) and honestly, it looks pretty good in handheld mode. Like, it's an old game- early 2000's, but it looks so much better than that.

GTA San Andreas also looks pretty good in handheld mode. Not as good as KOTOR, but it still looks good. I really appreciate these 6th gen classics being cleaned up and given a modern hybrid release.

It's amazing how good games from 15-20 years ago are compared to modern games. They may not look as pretty, or run as smoothly, and the audio quality might be subpar, but when it comes to fun... they stand shoulder to shoulder with the best of 2021.

...anyway...

Looks like Falcom is finally bending the knee.

"Starting in 2022, Falcom will develop Switch titles internally, starting with the Switch version of The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails."

No offense to NIS, who did an AMAZING job getting this ball rolling, but games will probably run better if they're designed to run on the system to begin with by the original developers.

Just beat Metroid Dread. Easily my GOTY and one of my favorite Switch games, arguably top 5.

What an ending, and a perfect way to cap off the saga that started 35 years ago. Looking forward to what's next!

@IceClimbers 100% agree. It's by far my goty. However, I did play FE3H for the first time this year, and it gives dread a run for its money, but it didn't release in 2021 so...yea. dread should be played by all, such a fluid experience. Tight controls, fast gameplay, great bosses. Perfect game.

@IceClimbers
Absolutely agree.

@NintendoByNature
Also agree. As the years pass we tend to forget how much we enjoyed a certain game. I recently revisited FETH and ya, it's fantastic.

@Ralizah
All that talk about, "we can't develop for 2 platforms" which we knew was bogus because they developed for Vita and PS4 simultaneously. Turns out, when you actually want to do it, suddenly you're able to manage the resources to make it work.

I agree though. The Vita versions of Trails were excellent. Solid optimization. Cold Steel 3 was a bit rough on Switch without AA, but Cold Steel 4 was much better. I think a different studio handled it and it shows.

@JaxonH Considering Falcom's Sony loyalism, I'm guessing revenue for these Switch ports must be greater than anticipated if they're moving development of the ports in-house. Who knew that releasing JRPGs on the hottest device for Japanese games in the industry would be a good move?

I'm curious to see if Sega will re-evaluate the possibility of putting Yakuza games on Switch now that Toshihiro Nagoshi is out of the picture.

Would also love to see Vanillaware return to Nintendo.

@Ralizah
Ya. There's so much Sony loyalism which has resulted in games not coming to Switch. Some of it I blame the devs for letting politics get in the way of good business. But on the other hand, Nintendo shares blame too. They went 20 years without providing a viable, profitable and healthy platform for 3rd parties, who had nowhere else to turn for Japanese games. 20 years of only releasing on PS- in that time, kids in diapers have now graduated college and gotten married. Of course loyalties are going to develop in a monopolistic environment like that for such a long time span.

So I get the first 5 years of Switch being a bit spotty. But the time has come to adopt the new philosophy and embrace the current reality, and the current reality is, Switch is the best selling console we've seen in many years, and the first one that may actually have a shot at cracking the PS2. You can't ignore that forever.

Switch should have Falcom games developed in house. Switch should have its own exclusive Tales game built ground up. Vanillaware should have dumped their entire catalog on the system by now. Where have they been? Why isn't Yokai Watch 4 localized? And where are all the 3DS developers that were dropping fire year in year out, with games such as Stella Glow, Radiant Historia, Etrian Odyssey, etc. All these games should have remasters or sequels on Switch by now. Why isn't Persona 4 Golden on Switch yet? (And a slight tangent but, I'm quite sure they're going to put SMTV on Steam, but they can't do the same for Persona 5? It makes no sense). And for goodness sakes, where is GTAV?

At least we see the tides turning. Finally. Falcom is, at long last, developing Trails for Switch internally (and just a few years ago, we weren't even sure Switch would get Trails, so we're making progress). GTA is now represented on Switch, which opens the door for GTAV. We are seeing some positive indicators. With Switch clearly in it for the long haul, it's time for these companies to get over themselves and their Nintendo-skeptic prejudices and go all in. Enough toe dipping. It's time for a swan dive.

Morning peeps,

will something that is out for preload today and that I already placed a preorder for be automaticly downloaded once that preload goes live or do I have to manually go to the store page for it to catch that info?

When I did it for SMT V, I had to go in and manually do it.

Also disregard my other post people, I have figured out how to enable the Japanese voices.

SMTV is out! But... work. Ugh.

@thiz
Sometimes it's automatic, other times it's not.

Not really sure why it doesn't trigger sometimes, yet other times it does. I have multiple Switches, and I've even seen 2 of them auto download it, yet the other doesn't, or one of them auto downloads and the other two don't.

I do know it has to be in sleep mode with internet connected and the setting activated that allows internet during sleep mode.

@JaxonH SMT V isn't going to Steam any time this gen. Almost guaranteed. If Atlus meant this to be a multi-platform release, they'd have announced it as one.

I woke up early to play my preload (early as in 3AM). I'm not a morning person at all, but it's worth it. Game is awesome. And absolutely brutal so far on hard mode.

I would have loved to get up at 5am and grabbed some coffee and started playing, but I only have 3 vacation days left and that's for the week between Christmas and New Years.

You jumped straight into HARD difficulty? That's savage.

@JaxonH Being an adult sucks sometimes, huh?

Yeah, hard mode is... wow. 😂 I'm going to be seeing that "game over" screen a lot. A Mermaid mini-boss just flattened me, which gives me a good excuse to switch over to my Lite (because the game is definitely very subnative in handheld mode).

I needed this, though, after being able to sleepwalk through most of Persona 5 Royal on the highest difficulty setting.
