Oh snap. That’s legitimately awesome. I just tried it, and the top S button is easy to use, but not the bottom one. Still, that’s one extra button, and I love it.

Ya, I’m laid off, but will likely return in May (we’ll see though). But it’s not really the unemployment that hits hard, since I can keep 85% of $970/wk after taxes in UI, it’s going back to work without any OT. So much is taken out of my checks (health insurance, 10% 401k contribution, $100+ on 401k loan, social security, Medicare, federal taxes, state taxes, etc) that I only net around 54% of my gross. So even though I technically make more per hour than the extended unemployment, I net far less. And that means running a tight ship.

I had always planned on migrating from PS/Xbox to PC/Switch anyways, there was just never any rush to do so because I didn’t really need the money. But with the way things are going now, I think it’s time. I was considering selling off the X1X as well, since I don’t think there’s any games I really need to hold onto it for, but then I remembered Lost Odyssey (360). That game is not on PC and doesn’t get past boot screen in the emulator. I can’t give that game up. So I’ll hold onto it, for now at least.

PS4 is a little easier to justify holding on to though. While I have migrated my Resident Evil collection over to Switch and PC now, and the Tomb Raider trilogy, and my Final Fantasy collection (7 will come next year so I’m not worried about that), and Dragon Quest games, and Trails, and all the Dark Souls games, Catherine, half the Yakuza games, and Horizon soon enough, and Valkyria Chronicles...

I do want to hold onto my Final Fantasy collection, and Kingdom Hearts, at least for now until it makes the jump, and Ni No Kuni 2, the first two Legend of Heroes games, and the first party title collection (God of War, Spiderman, Uncharted even if it’s not my favorite, I may want to try again some day, Last of Us games, Gravity Rush 1/2, Bloodborne, and of course my beloved Shadow of the Colossus).

So there’s no way I could give the system up. Even with the bulk of the library migrated over, there’s still a decent list of titles I don’t want to lose access to. But, once PS5 adds BC to all those titles (IF they add BC to all those titles I should say), I’ll sell it and upgrade, cause why not. At least then I can catch whatever exclusives land next gen. But as for Series X, I don’t think I’m going to upgrade my X1X. Just not enough incentive. But that could change, in time.

Oh wow, rip Cooking Mama: Cookstar. Makes sense though, the other Cooking Mama games are always pretty nice even if they got same-y, and this one seems to be... very bad.

Wow, I guess that makes Cooking Mama Cookstar a bootleg (kinda). From what I've heard, the quality isn't much better than the average game loaded on a 10,000 in 1 Famiclone.

@JaxonH Ah, I guess it makes sense at this point to streamline the collection down to the titles and platforms you really care about. No point in hanging on to games you're never going to play.

I've owned a copy of Lost Odyssey for 4 - 5 years now. Never played it. Always wanted to, though, and my 360 still works, so I probably ought to get around to it at some point.

Ya know it’s funny. Coming into this generation I cared so much about having physical copies of all these games on all these systems... and now... I just don’t care that much. It’s a mindset, it really is. And I think you just eventually reach a place of mental serenity where you realize the only thing that matters is that you have access to the games you actually care about, on the systems you’re actually going to play them on. I prided myself on my Xbox/PS4 collection. It made up a very large part of my total collection. But if I’m not playing the games anymore... why hold onto them 🤷‍♂️ And that mindset has worked it’s way into my Switch physical purchases too. I find myself buying fewer and fewer physical titles, being more and more focused on the ones I actually care enough about to own digital.

Lost Odyssey is so worth it. Idk if you’ve played The Last Story on Wii, that ones good too. But Lost Odyssey is about a man who... is cursed with eternal life, we’ll just say. He has lived 1000 lifetimes before. And over time, has become numb to the countless memories he has lost. It’s a very interesting premise for a story.

It was Microsoft’s answer to Final Fantasy, made by... none other than the creator of FF himself. And he did a heckuva job with that game. In some ways, Lost Odyssey and The Last Story were the last truly great JRPGs, the sendoff to an era... aside from the Xenoblade series, at least, which appeared right around the time of The Last Story, which was Sakaguchi’s... well... his “last story” (ironic how his first game was Final Fantasy, and his last game was Last Story). But you probably know all this already, seeing as you own the game and are a JRPG fan.

I've got Lost Odyssey, @JaxonH & @Ralizah .... Haven't got around to playing it yet, either!

Both Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon (developed by Mistwalker) were pretty great. It's a shame Mistwalker only makes mobile games these days. I believe I remember reading that MS had re-upped the trademark for Lost Odyssey a couple years ago. But that was probably just to reserve the rights rather than them considering a sequel or anything like that.

Lost Odyssey was good... story is definitely heavy and a bit slow, but it was a nice "counter" to FF back in the days when Xbox didn't get FF games.

I also owned and beat Blue Dragon, but wasn't really a fan, to be honest. My favorite Xbox-exclusive RPG was Eternal Sonata.

I have like, 500+ transactions on eBay with 100% feedback, so I usually do pretty well selling on there. But I’m always open to other avenues.

Biggest waste of talent in all of gaming. Sometimes I wonder if he feels like he wants the same success as the FF brand, and if he can’t achieve that same level of success he just doesn’t even try. That’s a shame because even if his games aren’t as popular they are so good! And it’s truly tragic to see such a great developer who makes such great games, not make full console games.

@Magician My biggest hope from Microsoft on the games front going into next gen is for them to explore single player gaming more and not just the default let's make everything [insert franchise]'s BotW. The rumours suggesting Halo Infinite's campaign is basically Halo BotW are concerning.

Ended up grabbing a Genesis Classic yesterday. Gonna make a great compliment to my SNES Classic.

Also Walmart sells a TV top stand that clips onto the top of the TV. It's small, but absolutely perfect for a streaming box, one of the Classic systems, or even the Switch dock.

@Grumblevolcano - I haven't played a game in the Halo series since 4. If 343 Industries decided to change things up with Halo Infinite, such as turning it into an open world action/rpg, I would be alright with that. And as for more single player games on Xbox? I dunno, I've always associated the Xbox brand with multiplayer games more so than single player experiences.

I can't remember the last single player only, first party, Xbox-exclusive game I played.

Gears Tactics looks pretty slick. Ori and the Will of the Wisps was amazing. And Halo 5 was good. Single player. Gears 5 was good, from what I played. And of course, Halo MasterChief and Gears Ultimate. Forza Horizons 4. Recore was good. Quantum Break was pretty good.

And, Idk if I’d buy a console for any of those (barring Ori, not that you have to now that PC is getting all these releases) but, if you have the console, they’re worth checking out.

So there’s at least a small handful of solid Xbox games. Of course, playing on Steam with gyro = bliss. But for some reason they made Halo MCC to where it can’t map mouse to gyro properly so it has to use “mouse like joystick” instead, which just doesn’t respond as well for gyro. Still, it works.

As a trpg fan, I'm excited about Gears Tactics.... I'm getting that on Steam
