@JaxonH It won't let me download the update either. I checked the server status and apparently it's "operating normally." Yet I can't download it??? Nice going Nintendo. >_>

@rallydefault My guess about Ori is Microsoft wanting the game to release by a certain time even if it affected quality because the Game Pass model means subscribers will just return when the game is fixed.

@JaxonH I've been the same way for a long while now. I only jump on day one, when it's day one on the system/way I want it. Otherwise, it more often than not pays to just wait for it to come to where you want. Especially when talking about Switch and PC. Neither seem to be considered direct competitors to PS/XB. Switch as a hybrid compliment system is getting tons of support with titles no one ever thought would come to a Nintendo system. And PC seems to be a neutral ground where many titles end up for a secondary release. Between the two, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything really significant.

All right, so apparently there's high traffic going on for the 10.0 update. If you're getting that error message, keep trying periodically and see if it'll work this time. Trying again tomorrow is an option too.

@MarioLover92
I’m just gonna wait until tomorrow.

@Grumblevolcano
Do you not have an Xbox One X? I hear it’s fine on that system. Or, good enough anyways. I played it on PC, end it was perfect for me. I think they just pushed the limits too hard with this one. Still, doesn’t make sense that a system like the X would run it at anything less than perfection.

I think you’ll be fine if you have the X1X. I’m pretty sure I heard digital foundry say that version runs pretty well but the base version doesn’t.

@Cotillion
Ya, Switch 3rd party support has far surpassed my expectations. The only thing that has not met my expectations has been Capcom support. Their head is so far up their rear end with AAA releases on other platforms they can’t see what’s right in front of them. Why is there not a new MH on Switch yet? Why is there not a new Street Fighter, or at least a port of Ultra Street Fighter IV? Why is there not DMC reboot on the system, or even DMC IV? I’m not even expecting the recent stuff, but come on...

Aside from that, support has far surpassed what I originally expected in 2017. We always knew it would never get everything the other systems got, but even getting 20% is a pretty huge share given it’s a handheld system a generation behind in power, running on ARM, and given where they were at with support last generation (or, the last several generations, for that matter)

Do you realize what this means!

Smash can be played with a dpad.

Zelda Links Awakening can now be played with a Dpad.

Games that use L/R instead of ZL/ZR can now use ZL/ZR...

This is a momentous occasion!

Nevermind. You can’t map directions on the analog stick, only the click. You can, however, Switch right and left analogs and reorient in any direction.

That sucks. Still, it’s nice remapping the rest of the buttons.

One thing I don’t like though is that you can’t save a normal profile to load. The only way is to change it back or to reset but when you reset it erases all your saved mappings in the 5 save slots. So... what’s the point of saving them then if they’re only present when you’re using a changed control scheme and disappear once you go back to normal?

Nevermind, it does still save the profiles.

Oh man, I rushed off to try and download this system update the moment I heard. Too bad about the server's being down, but the ability to actually manage my games on memory (by far the most frustratingly absent feature) and remap button controls on a system wide basis (which I never expected on any system but desparately wanted, and is step 1 to @JaxonH 's system-wide gyro remapping) are the best features we've gotten in an update, period. If only they'd add folders or tags, I'd be totally satisfied with the OS. Well, gyro being in the remapping (I don't thiiiink it is but we'll see) would be huge too. I know other people want messaging, voice, better tracking or themes but I wouldn't use any of those features personally.

EDIT: Also to point out, this is absolutely huge for accessibility. For people who play with only one hand, the ability to remap controls could make the difference between having access to a game or not. Wish my grandfather was still around, he'd love this.

Gyro is not in the mapping. Which SUCKS. But in truth I wasn’t expecting it to be either.

@JaxonH Reorienting is super useful at least. That means someone could play a game in 'dual joycon' mode with only a single joycon far more easily. Regardless, there's plenty of games with meh control schemes that'll be better to return to now at least.

EDIT: Also, they better actually keep this feature at launch on the Switch's successor if it has BC, that's an issue otherwise IMO.

EDIT 2: It just hit me that this means there might be a decent way to map up Luigi's Mansion 3's controls, I wonder how long it'll be til that hits.

So, Xbox One now lets you customize your buttons on a system level.

Nintendo Switch now lets you customize your buttons on a system level.

Steam of course lets you customize your buttons on a system level (and gyro, and by far has the most extensive customization of any platform, It’s absolutely insane how much you can customize the dead zones and the linear response curves, multiple radial zones for analog or even in reverse, how much the camera spins when you let go, mimicking a trackball spin, how much friction it has, and that’s just in the basic settings before you even go into the advanced tab!)

I guess there’s only one platform left that doesn’t let you customize your buttons. I didn’t realize it until Switch, but this has slyly (is that a word? It doesn’t look like a word... how bout sneakily... no, that doesn’t sound like a word either... dang, I should have read the dictionary more as a kid) become the standard across the board.

Software transfer between system storage and SD card is huge. I'm still wondering why it wasn't there day one, but hey, it's here now.

Is that mean i can preserve the eshop only games onto Micro SD card ?

@JaxonH No, still the OG XB1 I got in 2015. Didn't upgrade because 2017 was crazy for Switch lineup and by the time the Switch lineup had settled down it was very clear next gen was coming soon so I decided to just wait for Scarlett/Series X instead.

The update also allows you to move games from SD Card to internal memory, BTW ... Just in case that's what people here want to do, rather than the opposite

@JaxonH On PS4 it's: Settings > Accessibility > Customize Button Assignments.

When was that added?

I guess it is the new standard then.

@JaxonH It was part of update 2.50; back in early 2015. So it's been there for about 5 years now.

Okay, so the button config lets you disable the screenshot button. That's huge for people with little kids, let's you let them play without 200 photos getting added to your album each time. Or, you can redefine it or L/ZL into a second home button, letting both users access the home menu.

Really having fun messing with this, it's gonna solve a lot of issues I've run into at some point or another. Plus, I managed to get myself back up to 500 MB free space on the hard drive from 34 MB, which should be enough for me not to run out of space for saves for awhile.

I’m about to have a massive liquidation on eBay for games, probably in the next week or so. If anyone is looking to pick up some games for cheap. I plan to do auctions with no reserve, so there’s going to be plenty of deals to be had.

Untitled

But basically every single game that I now own on Switch or PC, or that is making the jump, is going to be auctioned off (barring a few exceptions like my Final Fantasy games on PS4 and my Ori games on X1). It’s a pretty hefty list of games. Probably... at least 2 dozen PS4 games and nearly all of my X1 games, which is about 85, give or take. So well over 100+ in total. I still have to make listings, which is going to be a major pain. But I’ll be sure to let ppl know once I start getting some listings up.

I may auction off a couple Switch games too, but if I do it’s probably not going to be anything major that people would be interested in, but some of the excess stuff I picked up over the years (the Mega Man games imported from JP when buying the box set, Warriors Orachi 4 since I got the Ult version, etc). Still, I’ll be sure to mention them if I do.

Switch's accessibility is so awesome. It's even better than PS4's accessibility where Switch can save it on a per controller basis with FIVE presets. Meanwhile as far as I know (I only have one DS4), accessibility is only for the system period.

If it weren't for that feature, I probably would have hated Bloodborne because in every single other From Software game, I remap the controls to resemble DMC/Bayonetta's default controls because oh my goodness you will never convince me that melee attacks on shoulder buttons make sense in any lifetime. And you can't natively remap controls in Bloodborne or Dark Souls II, which is where this type of accessibility really shines even if menus are screwed up beyond belief.

Also, one thing that deserves attention is that if you use split Joy-Cons, you can actually remap SL/SR on BOTH Joy-Cons so you have access to four extra buttons for whatever you want. Think the Xbox One Elite Controller and DS4 Back Button attachment, but with Joy-Cons. That is so awesome.
