Open question about Okami HD: what's the point of changing equipment? I don't see a strength stat anywhere, and the only difference between my first weapon and the one I got for clearing the first dungeon seems to be the ability to use ink bullets (which seem pretty useless so far).
@NEStalgia The only other platform I could see a multi-system owner preferring to play VC4 on is PC, given it supposedly runs at 60fps. Which doesn't really impact the gameplay at all, given its strategic character, but it does look a bit nicer.
@Therad I disagree. I know a lot of people who bought it to support SEGA (and Japanese, more broadly) releases on PC. Besides, it's not like it's the sort of strategy game PC gamers are used to. It's very much a console game in design.
Granted, I still think the low-ish price was the biggest factor at play.
But I guess we'll see. If VC4 sells better on Steam than on other platforms, you might have a point. But I don't think it will.
Why? Sega has been present on steam for a long time.
I also don't think "supporting a company" would account for almost a million units sold.
1. Half the people who made strategy games don't even make traditional strategy games anymore, of course one of the last big name releases would be huge on PC
2. Fire Emblem I feel like was mostly screwed after the initial NA released game. Sacred Stones was like a year after DS on the GBA, Path of Radiance was a late GCN game (I'm not convinced anyone but me actually bought a GCN game after early 2005), and Radiant Dawn was a poorly marketed hardcore game on a casual console (I BARELY KNEW IT EXISTED AND I HAD NINTENDO POWER THE YEAR IT CAME OUT). Though I feel like the latter half of the 2000s was just bad for blatantly Japanese games in general...
@kkslider5552000 I disagree that valkyria is a big release on PC. The PC platform is far superior to consoles when it comes to strategy thanks to mouse and keyboard.
While some of the old guard have disappeared (looking at you EA), some are still big while others have filled the void of those that disappeared. Valkyrias one million sold is far less than what total war sold for example, another franchise published by Sega.
@Anti-Matter I guess so. I don't know. If you Google a time and timezone, it will tell you what time it is in your time zone. Anyway, it's in about two hours from now.
Someone mentioned on reddit that all indie games in the previous direct were from European developers. That means that it's highly likely the next indies will be American.

@Ralizah Nier is a strange franchise overall. It really comes from Drakengard which was a dark fantasy type thing on PS2.....that essentially didn't release outside Japan (it did...but not meaningfully.) It had a few series games in Japan. Then they did Nier, which ended up being different games on PS3 and X360. It was a spinoff that seemingly had little to do with Drakengard, and it was kind of a disaster....Taro's little studio didn't have the funds to build the vision and Squeenix did the Squeenix thing and what came out was easily forgotten. Automata is a spinoff of the spinoff which seemingly has nothing to do with any of the above at all, and got breathed new life by Platinum, yet somehow feels much more like a Final Fantasy spinoff than anything else, right down to FF feeling VO acting and the vaguely Lightening-esque protagonist. There's a magic to it, though, can't deny it.
@kkslider5552000 Yeah I was starving for real games on Wii, got brand interest through Brawl, and still missed Radiant Dawn's existance. In my head canon, Awakening is the first FE after Marth & Ike raised awareness in Brawl...because it may as well have been.
@Late Oh great, more Nindies. I'm getting close to wanting to join EA and Ubisoft and get rid of all indies I know I have an old E.T. cart to flash, somewhere....
@GrailUK Multiplayer was planned from the start, but yeah Daemon X Machina was my third most anticipated game out of E3 2018 behind Xenoblade 2: Torna and Smash Ultimate. I'm getting that game Day 1.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
@NEStalgia Even if it's 10k years in the future, Automata is still a 'sequel' for NieR. I remember there was someone making a timeline for the whole thing from Drakengard to NieR...
Nonetheless Drakengard 3 -> Drakengard 1 -> NieR -> NieR: Automata. (Ignore 2, it's not made by Yoko Taro). All 4 games got localized, luckily...
