@rallydefault yeah, totally agreed. I bought smash at launch and was really put off by the f2p esque dlc. Then again.... Look at sfv, destiny etc. And i don't want to think of where mhw goes...
@FragRed I wouldn't have predicted Retro's game to be the genre the rumour is suggesting. I would've thought platformer would've been most likely as all Retro has done since Prime Trilogy is DK and course design for Mario Kart 7.
Smash Brothers is a sure bet. Mario Maker (be it sequel or port) is a sure bet. Animal Crossing is a sure bet. We know we will see a Zelda port- and if I had to put money on it it would be that one. Luigi's Mansion is due a new entry. The last one sold crazy good and it's been quite a few years since. 5 I think.
Nintendo doesn't work like that, though. They don't make new games just because we're "due" for another one. More often than not, they ignore things that fans have been begging them for for years and give them stuff that they never even asked for in the first place. Sometimes this works out: no Nintendo fan knew they had a first-party competitive shooter-sized hole in their gaming lives before Splatoon. Oftentimes it doesn't. It's why being a Nintendo fan is such a roller-coaster experience.
So, no, outside of already announced games, there are no sure bets. Thinking otherwise is just setting yourself up for disappointment.
So yeah, it would be exciting but, no more exciting than seeing Zelda, Mario, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart, ARMS, FE Warriors, Xenoblade 2, Mario Rabbids, etc all release in 2017. Or seeing the almighty home console Pokémon, Metroid Prime 4 and return of console Fire Emblem along with the much dreamt Bayonetta 3.
2017 was an unusually good year for Nintendo, though. Even if their average output it more on par with what we got before the Wii U, it still won't be anywhere close to the epic proportions of the Switch's launch year line-up. That's at least partially due to the fact that Nintendo seems to have been hoarding software projects throughout the last years of the Wii U's life so they could launch them on Nintendo Switch.
I expect we'll hear about a few exciting games. And, if they look exciting enough, that'll do to keep interest and momentum going for the Switch. Nintendo won't deliver to the extent that the leak is suggesting, though.
I really don't see a scenario in which this E3 is not a wet dream for fans. It may or may not be with these particular games, but I don't see this as being any more exciting than any other outcome they might have.
Really? Given Nintendo's penchant for keeping their cards close to their chest until the time comes to reveal them, I could easily see it being a let down. Seems more likely than not, actually.
I'm pretty sure Retro's game (whatever it is) will be showcased at e3 with hype in spades. It's been 4.5 years since development started. There is no way that game does not get revealed until next year, which would make it 5 1/2 years in development and then the time to release which could put it at over six. No. That game has to be shown this year. I'm thinking it might be a 3-D Donkey Kong if the one rumors are true. Otherwise a new IP.
Pokémon has to make 2018. They'll be working around the clock to get that game out this year. Because that is a game that only releases in November. And if it misses that window of opportunity they are going to have to shelf it for an extra year, whether it's finished or not. They want to sell 20 million units this year.
Don't make the mistake of thinking they plan to do that on Wii U ports and LABO alone

@Ralizah
Not a chance. Even just revealing the second half of the year and one or two games for the following will be enough to have people roaring. All it takes is showing the right games.
The second year of a console is one of the most important years in its life (provided it's not already dead on arrival like Wii U). The second year of Wii sold some 25 million units. There is no scenario I see in which the e3 is a letdown. They could not announce a single new game (which would never happen), and just showing off Metroid Prime 4, Pokémon, Fire Emblem and Bayonetta 3 (none of which have had gameplay revealed yet) would leave people incredibly excited and they would forget all about having no other releases.
The Wii U days are over. Not only that, the 3DS days are nearly over. Nintendo is going big with this console, and I would expect big things. They might be playing coy with a few ports and being hush hush in spring, don't even start to think they aren't gonna come swinging.

Hasn't Nintendo only released 1 horror game in the entirety of its existence (Eternal Darkness)? So if it was horror, new IP would be almost guaranteed.
@JaxonH if that's E3, I take back everything I said about Nintendo not being able to follow up last year. But then again pikmin 4 showing up anywhere would make my year haha
@DarthNocturnal I was thinking the 2D sections of Odyssey, some of those are among my favourite 2D levels. I don't see 3D level creation happening though it would be cool.
That rumor suggests quite interesting stuff about Retro's game. It's up in the air whether it's actually credible, but assuming it is, that would seem believable. Considering Retro has been working on this game for more than 4 years, it's highly likely to be a brand new IP or a long-dormant IP in a genre they haven't dabbled in before (so platformer and single-player FPS are out). I was expecting a battle royale or some other game highly dependent on online multiplayer so that it could be the defining game of Nintendo's Online Service (hence the delays in announcing the game), but horror could be possible as well.
The last leak with stands happened the same day, because it was done by one of the guys setting them up. It sure didn't leak months before. And the list looks like every fake list in existence, have all games we know of, splash in some IPs people miss and nothing revolutionary. Known leaked method+ uninspired list = fake.
I also don't think Nintendo will do a new Mario maker and porting the old one requires them to rebuild the entire control scheme. Nintendo won't do a touch based only one. They want switch to be seen as an hybrid, making games solely in handheld mode would defeat that.
The old one was also sort of an attempt to justify the Wii u.
With that said, I will make a prediction an say we will get an animal crossing this year and a new Mario kart next year.
Smash Brothers is a sure bet. Mario Maker (be it sequel or port) is a sure bet. Animal Crossing is a sure bet. We know we will see a Zelda port- and if I had to put money on it it would be that one. There are not sure bets but there are some incredibly safe bets. I'd argue that all of the above are incredibly safe bets. Especially Mario Maker, Smash and Animal Crossing. Sure having them all at E3 this year seems very unlikely but I think having some of them at E3 is incredibly likely. And I think it's fair to say that it's more likely than not we'll see the majority of them on the Switch before EOL.

Why isn't Nintendo Switch breaking records in the UK? It's the fastest-selling games console in almost every market it's been released in, but not Britain
