@Spoony_Tech Though made by Atlus I think that Shin Megami Tensei game is a fair bit away from release. Could easily be 2019, especially in the West before we see that game released on Switch.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I agree but I don't think that was actual footage we saw. Reminds me of the pictures we saw of the then SMT/Fire Emblem crossover. It was more of a tease that it was in development.

@Spoony_Tech Just a further point on the game. The first trailer of Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE was shown in January 2013 and finally released in the West at the end of June 2016, so 3 and a half years. From conception to release, production on Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE lasted 5 years. We similarly saw the new game's trailer in January of this year. I don't think it'll take nearly as long(TMS#FE ran into a lot of trouble) but could you imagine if it did? June 2020. Yikes!

@Spoony_Tech Yoshi and Kirby are early 2018 games. Metroid Prime 4 is a 2019/2020 game.

I really doubt Smash will launch this year.My guess is it will launch around the same time as the new online service. They can't just put all their big online games out in 2017 and then a good few months later ask everyone to start paying for a service without any new titles to launch alongside it.Splatoon 2 will be nearly 6 months old when 2018 comes around,Arms and Kart even older. To keep those community's alive they'll need a bigger incentive to upgrade than Dr Mario and Balloon Fight Online. Will a Smash 4 port alone be enough to convince everyone they need to stump up $20 for the premium service?I don't think so.But that together with a new game, say F-Zero Online then it's a different story.

A new F-Zero might sound like wishful thinking but we're getting MP4 and a Pokemon RPG on TV so anything is possible.

@Grumblevolcano True but that's not a game for everyone.Neither is F-Zero saying that but it's announcement would have a better effect overall I think.I've only played City Folk myself and wasn't a fan ,though I'll certainly give a new one a go.Is online in AC even really a big part of the experience?

My feeling is whatever this big online game will be,it's what Retro's been working on all this time.

@Grumblevolcano I feel like if that were the intention, they would have already announced Animal Crossing at E3. Likely even before that.

@OorWullie It's a series that you typically either love or hate, but it still is a consistently good seller. If they don't launch the service with Smash, AC is a solid contender. Maybe they'll come out with a new IP or something, though.

I personally didn't play New Leaf because I don't own a 3DS, but judging by the hundreds of hours I put into City Folk, online is probably about 50% of the experience, at least for me. I'm sure it varies a lot from person to person.

@Reginald Don't forget that an Animal Crossing mobile game is inbound which connects to a console Animal Crossing. Sure that console Animal Crossing could be New Leaf but I doubt it, a Switch Animal Crossing seems more likely.

@OorWullie no game is for everyone. AC is probably the best bet as it can sell up to 4 to 5 million copies total in it's life. Give it even better online then in the past and it may even push more copies.

@Reginald But we are only talking about launching with the online service of which they have announced nothing.

@KirbyTheVampire @Spoony_Tech Out of a new Animal Crossing and F-Zero,I have no doubt AC would sell more copies, probably by a considerable margin. But I would say a good amount of those who play AC are more casual players. It just doesn't seem to me like the kind of game that'll have a big impact with the core fanbase. The ones who'll have no qualms about picking up a subscription day one along with their new title.

Whatever happens,Animal Crossing for Switch is definitely on the way.The upcoming mobile game suggests it's not too far off.

@OorWullie Don't forget the reactions to amiibo Festival back at E3 2015, those were as extreme as the Federation Force reactions.

Reginald

@Spoony_Tech They did announce details about the service. They added subscription prices and deals, as well that it was pushed to 2018.
I'm saying that if Animal Crossing was intended to launch alongside the service at the beginning of the year, we would have already heard about the game.

Anyone want to bet that's not going to happen? I'm willing to stream Skyward Sword for at least 12 hours if I'm wrong. Metroid Prime 4 is a 2019 game.

To be fair we don't know of that many 2018 games for the Switch and we don't know how long Metroid Prime 4 has been in development. If you remember the last major hint that a Metroid Prime might be in development was when Tanabe said this in 2015:

If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo's NX console. It's a long time but it would need to include a lot of content, which would take a lot of work on the development side. [...] Three ends the trilogy, but if I can I would like to continue with numbered games.

I wouldn't be that surprised if 4 was in the early stages of development back then. Though it could just as easily be something that they've just barely started work on. Most likely it's somewhere in the middle and 2018 would be cutting it fine. But we really don't know at this stage.

About Smash

Smash Deluxe wasn't on E3, because Smash is already established as an eSports game, just like Mario Kart.

eSports is where a lot of profit is to be gained. It's what Nintendo seems to be focussing on, and the Switch is the perfect match for that type of game.

Nintendo is clearly wanting to expand in that area, with ARMS, Splatoon 2, and Pokémon Tekken DX. Smash would just draw away the attention on those 3 games, so they decidied not to show anything on that front yet.

About L.A. Noire

Can't wait for it if true. Rockstar lost a lot of money not producing a lot for Nintendo. I bought all Rockstar Games for Wii, well the three games that were released: Bully - Scholarship Edition which was just amazing, a real 10/10 game imo, Manhunt 2 which was pretty good, and Rockstar Table Tennis which was bad as it came out the same time as Wii Sports Resort which had a monumentally fun table tennis game included. I would have picked up anything they released on Wii U but that never happened. Now maybe we've more luck on Switch. L.A. Noire looked very interesting the hour I played it on my brothers Xbox360 to help him progressing when he was stuck.

@skywake Their wording made it seem it's still years away. Why would they announce the game with the words ''now in development'' if they know there's a reasonable chance that it's coming out next year? I think the only reason they announced the game at this point was to prevent backlash for the 3DS Metroid remake.
