@Dezzy I was worried about that exact same thing and apparently they removed settlements/villages and NPCs besides the Old Man from the demo on purpose to prevent people from running into story spoilers.
That isn't particularly calming though because it seems to suggest that the settlements are only there as part of the story.
I'm saying I like an open world to incorporate the towns and cities into that exploration aspect. So it really matters to me how many towns there are, how big they are and how they're distributed about the world. This was a massive flaw in Xenoblade X for me, a game that I otherwise find to be superb. The civilization VS wilderness ratio is too small.
Yeah... I like how Skyrim had a bunch of walled, visually distinct cities (even discounting the minor holds). Fallout 4 was missing a bit of that for me, even if I really liked Diamond City, Goodneighbor, and Covenant. In Zelda... I don't know. I always loved Kakariko Village, but that was always for the jumping puzzles. With the deku leaf / glider and hills to walk up everywhere (unlike on Windfall Island) I wonder what that could even be.
I mean, it seems pretty well confirmed that Castle Town is out, so it's not like they can even do the Twilight Princess thing of impressing us with a bunch of NPCs rendered. I guess I would be most excited for a Goron and Zora village. I really hope we get at lest Zoras. All the new Zelda races after Ritos kinda sucked.
Well, we know the original castle town is gone... But for all we know maybe they simply moved to another part of the map.
After all, even in Twilight Princess, it would seem like the sacred grove is actually set in the ruins of the Hyrule castle town from OoT. Which maybe means the castle and the town moved north at some point.
Or that they totally destroyed the forest temple to relocate the temple of time.
Anyway, still, they moved something important in that timeline.

No, I mean that 'Castle Town' is dead—both the new and the old—because the aforementioned Castle has a giant evil monster many times the strength of the Fused Shadow circumambulating it.
If there is a proper human / Hylian (I hate that they introduced that distinction) 'town' in game, it'll probably just be called 'Kakariko Village' or, failing that, 'Gerudo Fortress.'
Speaking of towns: I don't think there will be many towns and/or people. From the looks of it this is a post-apocalyptic world where nature has taken over. And what will the purpose be of the towns? I expect some mini-games/side-quests, maybe some smithy (to upgrade your weapons so they won't break. Come on, it must be possible!). But as I said I don't expect massive towns.
I also wonder how the proper dungeons will be. Will they be without key's? Will they all sport those dynamic puzzles (where there's more then one solution)? And what will be the size?
Also, I wonder wich Wii u game will end up with the biggest world: Xenoblade X or Zelda. There are 2 differences though: The new Zelda is probably easier to get into, and everything is connected (the plains, the snowy mountains, etc).
I completely expect to find at least a town with noteworthy architecture and a respectable amount of people
Just hunting and sneaking will be boring, they need to break the monotony and make the player feel they're part of something bigger at least a few times.

Yuuuuuup.
Though, I wonder if Nintendo won't just follow tradition and have the possible Goron City and Zora's Domain as caves without many buildings. I hope not. I'd love to finally see some Zora architecture. The Gorons living in a cave I'd be alright with (as long as it's a cool cave).
I'd like to see a mountain village for the Gorons, similar to how they lived in caves in Phantom Hourglass. A perfect combination of caves and houses. For the Zora I'd like to see a big pretty city. Something in between the Great Fairy fountains and Noki Bay from Mario Sunshine.
With the ruins, guardians in the sand and all that my bet is on a time switch: one in the past, one in the timeframe we see now.
Go back to that past again and there are guardians, people, thingsels...
Guardians in the sand? When did we see that? I would give Breath of the Wild major points if, when a guardian walks into the desert, it just sinks into the sand, its tendrils unable to prop it up. The guardian would basically turn into one of the stationary ruined guardians like we saw in the E3 demo. And incorporate that into the story? Like that's how the pre-war Gerudo civilization survived? Yes please.
Moved this over to the Zelda thread. Rather interesting find that shows Zelda as being the most popular game of E3 over Twitter and websites. Did not expect this going into E3, but I guess it just goes to show that Nintendo might know what they're doing.

Noki Bay! Like if Zora's Domain was carved into the cliff and centered around a waterfall? That'd be great! I imagine it'd have a really ornate stone carved greco-roman architectural style to it. Alternatively, what if it was like the Great Fairy Fountains and Underwater Ruin from Monster Hunter? That is, under the ocean. They could do some really cool things with shells and bioluminescent sea life (imagine if the torches were just eels or angler fish who swam around the central chamber).
Oh and I wanted to stress that the wolf companion thing is awesome. I'm getting that amiibo now, so I can play with a wolf when I want to
I hope to see gear quests and travel in this game too. You know, travelling some very vast space and getting better trousers for it as a reward? rpg classic, but this zelda could fit that mechanic...
@Haru17@Tsurii Yeah not sure about a submerged city, but I wouldn't mind if part of the city was partially underwater. And yes, the Zora architecture in TP is my favourite, would love to see something like that in a cel-shaded style. I really like the big spires from Noki Bay, so I'd love to see something like that in a Zelda style. It would also be perfect for climbing around in this new game.
If BotW takes place in the adult timeline, will there be Zora? Since they evolved to Rito prior to The Wind Waker. 🤔 (I really hope that isn't the case)
